Chapter 2:
That morning the music died down from the Spring Ball. I sighed in relief and took out a new gown. I changed and reappeared into the glass wall. When I appeared, I noticed that there was an orange rose bud laying on my mirror. I didn’t want to get some kind of conclusion but I smiled when I thought it was for me. I heard footsteps and turned invisible.
“Aye! That nasty ol’ princey thinks he is higher than us. If it weren’t for the pay, I would have destroyed his royal chambers by now.” Said a grouchy old voice. It seems as if it were the maids that had entered. I watched silently as they talked bad about the prince and cleaned the room. They took the rose bud and placed it on a vase. For about 30 minutes, they cleaned and I learned their names were Felicity and Deborah. They were soon finished and left the room. I went back to my room and went into the shower. I sighed. As soon as I got out, I started to hum. Soon I was fresh and clean once again.
“You know you have a beautiful voice.” I heard Robert’s voice. I yelped out in surprise and dropped my brush. I smiled, finishing fixing my hair. Then I appeared in front of him. “Why thank you, Robert. How are you today?” I asked nicely. He reached for my mirror and took my mirror in his hands. He held it up so I was face to face with him. He smiled and told me, “I’m good. I wished that I didn’t have to do much work. I want to go to the pasture to ride. I will take you one day and you will see why I love it there.” He told me. I was shocked when I heard this. I wanted to go explore. But I am stuck in the mirror, and I guess I wasn’t ready to explore. I sighed and smiled back at him. Then I remembered what Felicity and Deborah were talking about. “Robert, I have something to tell you. But first I want to ask you a question, are you cruel to the workers here?” I asked just to make sure before tattling on some people. He looked at me in confusion and he replied saying no. I sighed once more before taking a deep breath and explaining what the evil creatures were gossiping about. I finally took a deep sigh and leaned back waiting for the royal highness to respond to my confession.
He looked blank at first, like a paper when you have nothing to write on it. Then later he turned upset. “Am I horrible? I don’t have anything cruel that I did to any of those maids. I thought that they were kind and willing to help me out. Oh, Sin I feel horrible.” He whispered putting me against the pillow on his bed, and then placing his head on his hands. I wanted to comfort him, but my hands were restrained by the glass once again. I sighed and looked down. I looked back up and said, “Robert. From what I see, You are not horrible nor cruel. I mean, you saved me from being with that girl you are courting with. I have not experience any cruel or horribleness from you. On the bright side, I respect and love the way you are. Should any other people’s opinion matter? Either way, if it did, I don’t think it is a good idea to change to get people’s attention.” I honestly confessed.
The brownie eyes looked at me and gleamed the sun’s rays. I smiled back and rested my head on my palms. “I think that is the only thing that lightened up my mood. Thank you! You are like a ray of sunshine on my cloudy day.” Robert confessed. I smiled and nodded. I wanted to actually hug him. I shook my head from my reverie and thought to myself. I couldn’t be in love with him. It must be a infatuation. He is an adorable-puppy! One you cannot help but love. My head was starting to hurt with the war going in my head. I sighed and moved away from my mind at the moment. I looked at the prince and told him, “Robert, I love the rose bud you gave me. Thank you very much. I was wondering if you would take me to the place where you got it. If you have time, of course.” I smiled sheepishly. I was as red as his wallpaper when he was not answering. He was staring at me without an expression. I bit my lip and smiled again. I waved my hand on the glass, trying to get his attention back on earth.
He finally caught my hand motions and smiled. “Of course. I want to, but the roses are far away. I would have to do six days ride. I will take you, just not yet. I wan-” A voice outside the door interrupted him. He placed me leaning on the lamp, so I can see him. I turned invisible once again and watched the visitor. I couldn’t see very well because he was blocking the visitor. I could see an hourglass figure near the door. On top of it, there was an orange-like hair color and thin hands wrapped on Robert’s hair.
I frowned knowing it was the girl whom he was courting. I sighed and watched them. Robert must have forgotten me because he pulled the girl in and closed the door. I sighed once more before vanishing to my chambers. I argued with myself once again.
I knew this filly was not gal for him. He was higher. He was the epitome of Halla! I thought quietly and sensed another mirror. I thought of the mirror and the mirror shown. It was an old cracked mirror. The frame had roses engraved, and it looked as if it went through a burning. The roses were pitch back. I cringed at the color, but moved to the mirror. I looked around the room and saw towers with sections. It kept shelves full of scrolls and books. I frowned a little looking closer into the room. There was a light that winked at me and I turned to see there was a lavender candelabrum with three candles. I sighed, thinking nothing was going on. I smiled when I saw a small boy sitting on the seat near the window. He was reading. Suddenly the books were flying off the shelves and the letters came out. It was beautiful but frightening. I shook me head thinking that this whole scene was amazing. I felt my necklace jingling and sighed before returning to my mirror.
Once I got there, there was an earthquake in my house. I was stumbling and tripping over the trembling furniture. I appeared in front of my glass and screamed, “Stop shaking my home!” I frowned and took a hold of myself, calming down. The prince seemed to be too surprised by my outburst and dropped my mirror on the bed. I clenched my eyes, thinking I was going to disappear. I opened them when I realized that he had caught me.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to drop you.” He quickly apologized. I was not sure if he was doing this on purpose, but his face was a puppy dog face. I was in awe at his adorableness and giggled. “I’m not angry, and thank you for catching me. It wouldn’t have been a good thing.” I carefully told him. He sighed in relief then became alerted when he heard it was not a good thing to drop me. “What do you mean? What will happen?” He asked. I looked at him with a straight face and told him the simple phrase the witch had told me.
“When the rose, full of life and beauty, is wrapped in thorns, it loses all its worth.”
