It's finally Friday, no hell tomorrow. It's been two days since the dinner and I haven't seen the alpha since nor have I run. Logan's barely talked to me too, it's definitely not like him, maybe today I'll ask what his deal is.
I step out of the bathroom, throwing my silver waves into a messy ponytail. I pull my bag over my shoulder and step down the stairs quickly, hoping Victoria will be nice enough to give me a ride. I grab an apple and bite into it while stepping out the front door to the driveway.
I see Victoria's car pulling out. A boy, more like man, is bent over in the window of her car. I tilt my head and walk slowly out to them, hoping this isn't one of her 'boyfriends' who she has 'relations' with. I know if I interrupt she'll be pissed. I guess I can text Logan and ask for a ride.
Before I reach them though I see her nod with a frown and look up at me, her eyebrows crease and she speeds into the road, heading in the direction of school. The man she was talking with is still turned away from me and I'm not really sure where to go.
I turn to walk to Scars house but the man turns back and I recognise him from the day the alpha came. He smiles with bright green eyes and walks over to me, I stand awkwardly trying to figure out what I should do.
"Hi I'm Peter" he sticks his hand out to me, he's Maddox's second in command
"Hi I'm Eve" I smile shaking his hand, trying to find out why he's here
He nods with a kind, charming smile "Alpha asked me to personally drive you to school" he keeps his smile even when I raise an eyebrow and bow back in surprise
"Um...why?" I ask readjusting my bag and stepping back a little
"Just to make sure you get to school" he shrugs
I laugh nervously "That's not necessary" I smile politely but I'm not sure what all of this means "I was going to catch a ride with my friend Logan"
Peter runs his hand through his hair and smirks looking away "I'm sorry Ms. Eve, that won't do, I kinda have to do this" he chuckles "don't worry I'm nice"
It's kinda funny that someone older than me is calling me Ms. "Um..." I look around "ok sure"
He nods and smiles again "come on" he waves me along and we walk to the edge of the driveway to see his car parked on the street
He opens the door for me and I climb in, trying to decide what this is about. He climbs in and starts the car, following the same route to school as I always take.
"So...." I trail off hoping to make friendly conversation "how do you like it here so far?" I ask
He smiles "it's great, me and Lena really like the land, it's beautiful and everyone's pretty nice" he says and I smile
"I'm glad...when did you meet your mate, Lena?" I ask hesitantly, hoping he won't mind but hearing mate stories give me hope
"We had grown up together, me, Maddox, and Lena were all friends and I turned eighteen a month before her-"
"Did you tell her when you found out?" I ask in a hurry, curious to know
"No, I waited, but man was it fucking hard" he says honestly
I nod but don't say anything, remembering what Scar said to me about Logan. I can't think much on it before he speaks again "how do you like your new Alpha?" He asks, a smirk on his lips
My eyes widen a little "well he's...." How do I answer this without making it sound odd?
"He's a really nice guy, you just have to get to know him....he can be a little-"
"Frightening" I cut him off without thinking, he chuckles when I gasp "I'm sorry I didn't mean that, please don't tell him I said that" I beg, I don't need him hating me...more
He chuckles laying one arm out the open window, the morning sun bright on one side of his face "I'm sure he'd be amused but I won't tell him"
I sigh in relief and lean back in the seat "thank you"
"But really he's a good guy" he smiles and continues to drive
My thoughts go back to the dinner, how he told me he didn't think I was nothing and now his second in command is convincing me how great of a guy he is "well I know my parents like him...and my sister" I fight to groan at the thought
Peter chuckles "your sister" he laughs
"What about her?" I ask
"Maddox has had a few words to say about her" he smiles and winks at me
My eyes widen again, but my shoulders slump and heart plummets "oh?" I ask
"Yeah, I've heard she's something" he smirks and again I feel my heart beating faster, did that mean he's attracted to her? I sigh, the same as every guy really
"Yeah she is a-" my voice hardly above a whisper
I'm cut off by a phone, I jump and Peter answers. He has a short conversation with short answers just listening to the line "sorry kid the alpha needs me, I can pick you up after school"
I being to argue and tell him Scar or Logan can take me home but he holds up his hands "don't argue, trust me I'll win because I'm more afraid of Maddox than you" he laughs and I sigh with a forced smile
"Bye" I wave picking up my bag and stepping out of the car
I sigh, the conversation from moments ago still repeating in my head. I don't know what to think at this point.
Someone throws there arm around my shoulder and hugs me, I gasp and jump looking over to the person "Scar you scared me" I laugh nervously as she smiles with bright blue eyes
"Sorry, but after I saw you get out of that car I had to know who the hell you rode with" she says and looks around "I think everyone's thinking the same thing"
I follow her eye to see practically everyone staring at us. My eyes widen and I quickly pull her over to a building, not liking all the curious eyes on me.
"The new Beta, Peter, drove me" I tell her walking into the air conditioned building
She stops while I keep walking, I turn back and tilt my head seeing her confused face "why?" She asks
"I don't really know, he said the alpha-" she gasps "wanted to make sure I got to school" I finish
She stares at me in shock "What does that mean?" She asks quietly, her brain already turning, trying to figure it out herself
I sigh "I've got no clue" I haven't told her about the dinner or the window, not even the woods. I just feel like I need to figure it out before I say something that will sound completely ridiculous.
"That's so weird, but on a different note I can't give you a ride home from school today, my dad said my grandma wants to see me. I'm going to visit with her for a little while." She tells me, blue eyes softening at the mention of her Grandmother
Scars grandma hasn't shifted for ten years, she never liked the pack life and lives around five miles out from where we are. she's still technically apart of the pack, she just doesn't come around. She used to be the pack story teller. She would tell us passed down stories of the ancestors and prophecies that she was told would happen some day. I haven't seen much of her since she moved away, I sometimes go with Scarlet to see her but not lately. I used to see her all the time, when Scars Mom passed away she lived with Scar and her dad for a while...to help them get back on there feet, Mr. Odan's still trying to get over it.
"It's fine, I'll figure out sometime" I tell her "maybe Logan can take me"
Her eyes widen and she frowns "why don't you catch a ride with someone else" she suggest quietly
I'm surprised by this, not sure if I should be offended "why? Wasn't you that said a couple of days ago that he could be my mate and all" I get nervous saying that sentence out loud
"Yeah...but, I don't know he- never mind and anyways have you seen Logan?" She asks
I dismiss her behaviour "No, he hasn't been talking to me the past two days, I don't know what his deal is" I tell her and she shrugs, brown curls bouncing with the movement "I wanted to talk to him about what he wanted to do for his birthday tomorrow but I'll find him today and ask"
"I need to talk to him, I'll see you later" she says in a hurry and runs off, I raise an eyebrow but continue to class

I walk into my third period to see Logan sitting there, eyes down on his desk and head propped in hands. I walk up next to him and sit in the desk in front of his "hey" I say to him placing my backpack in the floor
He lifts his brown eyes to me and they become dark for a minute "hey" he clears his strained voice and sits back away from me
"So are you exited for your birthday tomorrow?!" I ask
He looks me up and down "not really" he says quietly
"Why?" I ask and he shakes his head
"It's complicated....I can't explain it" he waves his hands in frustration
"Ok..." I trail off "did you want to go out to Marcos with me and Scar, we were going to buy a cake and I have a present" I tell him but he shakes his head
"I...I don't know, I have a feeling that wouldn't work out" he says more calm, brown eyes shifting from the desk back up to me, his arms across his chest.
"What are you talking about, we always go out to dinner to Marcos for your birthday" I say with a frown, my shoulders slumping
"I don't know Eve I just don't think that's a good idea this year" he gets annoyed "it's hard being around y'all " he tells me
"What why? Did we do something?" I ask wondering if we did something wrong
"Nothing just-" he cuts himself off pushing his hand through his spiked dirty blonde hair
"Ok ok....well just text me if you change your mind" I tell him and he nods looking away
I sigh still wanting to talk to him "have you heard all the new rumours about me" I laugh lightly but they are actually painfully stupid
"No...I have something on my mind" he tell me and bends down, he gets out his binder and starts rummaging through it, obviously done with this conversation.
I sigh and face forward, hoping whatever is wrong with him will end soon.
