Cole's POV - Body Over Mind

Hello, everyone! If you haven't gotten to Catching the Catchers yet, then you wouldn't know about me asking which SA chapter everyone would like to see from Cole's perspective in honor of this story reaching 400,000 views and me getting to 7,000 followers. Well, after a few days  of voting it was clear that the winner was... Chapter 32! If you're not familiar with it, then it is when the invasion starts and there's a little special Caylor moment in there... wink wink, nudge nudge.

So thank you for helping me hit those amazing milestones! Without further or do, please enjoy Cole's take on this chapter and forgive me if it sounds girly because it's kind of hard to change POV's, okay? :)

My fingers anxiously tapped away at my bottle as I scanned the forests around us for that familiar pale blonde hair. It seems like she left the party ages ago to find Allyson and I couldn't help but feel an uneasy feeling in my chest. Sighing, I looked around, seeing the joyful faces of all the Fives having a good time free of training and worry.

Well, except me. The moment she left was when I stopped the mingling, dancing, and all the games and waited. I couldn't help it or deny the connection I've felt towards her since before I even met her., from the beginning to now.

The meeting began at five in the morning, each of us who are eligible for pick-up missions were called in, all clad in what we went to bed in. Alex and Claire were with me, Vanessa on my side as we took a spot in the meeting room with around a dozen others.

Galen was at the head of the room, a projection screen down to display information about whomever was caught using their powers and needed to come here. I hated these meetings and the missions, but sadly, I was still forced to come.

Once everyone arrived, Galen began her spiel. "A new Mind Supernatural was confirmed a couple states over. She's seventeen years ago, blonde hair and the obvious gray eyes..."

She continued on but anything else she said was ignored the moment her picture showed up on the board. She drew me in so quickly that I couldn't even think of anything else besides going on this mission.

I found myself standing up, barely feeling Vanessa pulling at my shirt from my side. "I'll do it," I announced, making everyone, including my best friend, stare at me in surprise. "I'll go."

Looking over at Galen, she didn't even seem shocked, but rather a knowing smile hinted her lips as she nodded, excusing everyone from the meeting so we could go over the details.

To this day I'm not sure why I really volunteered so quickly. I wasn't so incredibly attracted to her just from a picture, but rather held a wonder about her. That feeling hadn't left since meeting her and the fascination was still there. I'm not sure if that comes from this whole Big Six nonsense or some attraction I had for her.

Who was I kidding? I obviously liked the girl.

As usual, my thoughts were engulfed by Taylor, but even I didn't miss the flash of something running at an unusual speed within the trees. Setting down my drink, I stood up and slowly walked over there to investigate. In previous years, a Supernatural from Four would try to crash our party and I wasn't about to have another thing bringing me down.

Heading away from the clearing, I formed a ball of fire to act as a light as I continued into the dark forest. My eyes searched between the branches and leaves, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary until I noticed the slight twitch above me. It took me a few seconds to make out the pitch black eyes before they jumped down straight towards me, several others joining in. I barely had enough time to jump out of the way, bringing my hand with the fire down on his head, slamming it into the ground as he came on me. I didn't stop to make sure it was fully dead, but rather I ran as I heard the snickering chatters of Catchers all around me.

"Run!" I screamed at the Fives who were still enjoying their party. "It's an invasion, run!"

It took a second too long for everyone to react to my words when dozens came for their attack. Immediately, there was blood and the sounds of fighting overtook everything while I ran over and grabbed Alex by the arm.

"Go to the cellar," I told him urgently while Claire stood back in fear. "I'll meet you there."

"No, you're coming with us," Alex argued.

I looked him straight in the eye. "I have to find her first." I didn't even have to say the name for them to know who I was talking about. Not giving him time to argue, I turned around and began running away before he could stop me.

"You can't play superman all the time, Cole!" He called out, but I was too far gone to reply.

My first instinct was to go to the main campus where more people would be, therefore increasing the chances of her being there. The second I arrived in the center area, I saw all my peers fighting with our enemies. Overhead, the sirens finally went off, signaling that there was a Catcher on campus.

Well, no shit there was.

I looked around, hoping to find her uninjured or, at the very least, fighting one. She was strong enough to support herself, but I just needed confirmation that she was okay. After all, she was part of the Big Six and we all need to be safe.

But obviously, that wasn't my only reason why.

I was so engulfed by my thoughts of her that I didn't see the Catcher coming until a large rock flying towards me. I was able to jump to the side so that most of my body was out of its line of fire, but my side still took a beating as it made contact with my skin. I barely registered the pain as I found myself surrounded by three Catchers, all seemingly possessing various abilities.

I had an advantage over my peers who had never even seen one before today. I knew how they worked and have killed them myself. I wasn't an expert by any means, but I did know what moves would work best against them.

Cracking my knuckles, I created a veil of fire around me before pushing it out. I couldn't help but smirk as they were all knocked down by the force and heat. I would focus my power on one, killing them, and then letting the fire grow until it reached another. Fire was a ruthless element to have as most of our training involved learning how to work with it. I use its uncontrollable nature to my advantage, letting it come from me but still have the power do to its own thing.

I felt a force throw me back, but thankfully my training taught me how to quickly regain my balance. After surrounding the Catcher in a ring of fire, I let the walls cave in until it consumed him.

I couldn't stop to admire my work because when I lifted my head, my eyes immediately found her. She was standing by the forest's edge and thankfully had no visible injuries. However, that's all she was doing: Standing there, in complete shock as fear and panic was written all over her soft features.

Before I could react, a Catcher caused an explosion off to the left of her, making her small form disappear within a cloud of smoke and debris.

"No, no, no..." I chanted to myself, sprinting across the field and jumping over fallen bodies of both my enemies and comrades. None of that fazed me besides the girl who has engulfed my every waking thought possibly being in trouble.

I've seen this girl at her worst, breaking down from this curse we've been given, to standing up for what she could do. In the past few months of knowing her, I conjured up as many sappy, ridiculous nicknames as possible just to make her smile. However, in this moment, all that went down the drain as I rushed forward to meet her.

"Taylor!" I found myself yelling out as I ran straight into the dust cloud without a second thought. "Get the hell out of there!"

I almost collapsed with relief when I saw that she was okay, but that vanished when I noticed a Catcher coming up to attack. She reacted faster than me, holding it still with her telekinesis so I could push a hand to its chest, projecting my fire to the inside of its body.

After it dropped, I immediately turned to her. "Are you crazy?" I asked as her wide gray eyes began scanning my body. "You could've gotten yourself killed!"

She shook her head, as she began jabbering on. "I don't--"

I didn't listen to what she had to say. It was clear she was panicking from this situation. She might be in the Big Six and is obviously much stronger than she gives herself credit for, but she's still new to this life. She wasn't as so in tune with her powers and fighting as other Supernaturals were. We don't have time to stop and think in situations like this: we needed to react. While I knew she could handle herself, it still didn't stop me from knowing that we needed to get out of here as fast as possible.

The smoke around us cleared, revealing more Catchers on their way to attack. The two of us worked without speaking, knowing when to duck for the other to attack over their shoulder and when to use what moves. When we had a second to finally breathe, I watched her look out across the field at the destruction. Her eyebrows scrunched together the slightest amount and I could almost see the gears running in that Mind Supernatural brain of hers, most likely forming conclusions that I couldn't dream of realizing.

We were hit with a few more attacks, all enemies being ended without any major wounds on either of us. Finally, I just grabbed her arm, dragging her along the way as I yelled, "We gotta go! The cellar, like Galen said!"

The moment I said those words, she immediately began pulling against my grip but I refused to let go. "What?" she argued. "We can't just leave them to fight! They need our help!"

I should've expected this. Taylor was the most headstrong and stubborn, yet caring girl I've ever met. It made her interesting, but not so much in situations where her life is in immediate danger. I tried to reason with her only to be interrupted as usual. "Galen said--"

"Galen never anticipated this, Cole!" She pleaded. "We have to fight!"

In any other fight before Taylor and before the Big Six, I would've jumped in, ignoring all word from authority. However, I couldn't do that now. Our lives served a greater purpose and while it killed me to stand by completely safe while others were fighting, we had to do it or we would all be goners.

I refused to look at her knowing I would only be greeted by desperate, gray eyes that could make me lose this argument. She continued struggling in my grasp, so I took the liberty of putting a protective veil of fire around her to ensure she couldn't get away. Taylor was strong, yes, but still hadn't mastered the art of using her shield and other powers at the same time because it's still new to her.

You know, unless she magically learned it in the heat of this moment. She's done it before and I wouldn't be surprised if she did it again.

Lucky for me, I was able to force her to the cellar in one piece, letting us in with my fingerprint and locking it behind us. Of course, being the little firecracker she was, she jumped forward, desperate to get out the second my back was turned.

But I knew her too well and grabbed hold of her hands, eliminating her from using any powers. She thrashed around, but her attempts were useless in my hold.

That's why I said strength training was important, Princess...

"Let me go, Cole," she glared at me. Even while arguing, hair thrown every which way, she still looked cute. But I couldn't be checking her out right now. I needed to focus. "This isn't right. They need our help!"

I had to agree. I knew this wasn't right and that we should be up there. But I knew that this is what we had to do. We couldn't throw ourselves into the line of fire until we were ready or we could all eventually be killed from our recklessness. "I can't let you do that," I told her. Her struggles became more desperate, which forced me to tighten my grip to the point where I could see her face twinge from discomfort but I knew she would use any leeway to get out if I loosened up.

"So you're going to just sit back them?" She accused, her gray eyes shining with anger. "Hang out down here like a coward and listen to our people die because of us? I know we're in the Big Six and dying out there would result in an automatic and easy win for Katherine, but I can't just be down here while they're fighting. We're supposed to be protecting them, not the other way around!"

There she goes, voicing everything that I already believed. I've been here for years and seeing everyone I've grown up with fight and potentially even die killed me, but I was still able to see through to the bigger picture. "Taylor..." I tried to reason with her. I could see her eyes widen just enough to know she was surprised that I had actually used her name for once. Maybe then she would realize how serious this was, that we have a huge weight on our shoulders that we can't just throw away without hurting everyone else. "You have to remain safe."

Okay, yeah... maybe I was being selfish too, but I really couldn't have her out there risking her life. Mine? Sure. But not hers.

I almost cringed at myself. Maybe I was as whipped as Alex made me out to be.

She stared at me incredulously now. "Safe? I'm the last thing from safe here. Am I not strong enough? Too weak to even support myself in a fight? I'm sorry I'm not like you and I haven't killed tons of Catchers and won dozens of fights, but I need you to let me do this!"

Her words were starting to get to me now but the moment she saw the opening and began fighting against me once again, I realized they were just words. Fighting words, yes, but she wanted to cause some damage and let me give up these efforts. I could see her fingers twitching and moved them into a different position, completely inhibiting her from using her powers just in case while I pushed her against the wall for extra leverage. Now, I looked her dead in the eye, her face still set in fury. "I can't let you go up there."

She shook her head, her breaths coming out in huffs now. "You're a coward, Cole."

One of the downsides of being a Fire was our anger and while I knew, deep down, she was only trying to cause a reaction, all this fighting was starting to get to me. It didn't help that they were coming from her either. Any other person saying this kind of thing would annoy me, yeah, but seeing someone I cared about like this was different.

"Taylor..." I warned her, my teeth gritting together to hold back anything that would make her even angrier at me. I didn't hold my tongue in the past, which resulted in her being hurt. That's one thing I wouldn't like to do again, thank you very much.

She continued with her attacks. "You're weak. A sad excuse for a Supernatural. You can't let these people fight this war for you. Let me go up there!"

I couldn't risk her getting hurt. I don't know what would happen during our battle with Katherine, but I wasn't about to have her die during this.

"I can't do that."

"And why not--"

When I get angry, it usually results in a blow up. Some angry words or fire being thrown around, but never has my reaction been to kiss someone.

I found myself moving forward, connecting my lips to hers. The moment they finally touched, all anger left me and I could feel her surprise until she began kissing me back. My hands had a mind of their own, wandering down her body and now holding her tightly rather than still. It was desperate, both of us trying so hard to bring the other closer than before. After months of flirting and getting to know each other more so than anyone else had before, this was way overdue. I just find it funny that this had to happen in the middle of a fight and an invasion.

But hey, body over mind, right?

Literally.

I was the first one to pull away. How? I'm not too sure, but I didn't let her get too far away from me. Her gray eyes were wide as they stared into mine, her lips slightly parted as she breathed in and out.

Those strength classes hadn't been working out with her, but her stamina has definitely increased.

"Does that answer your question?" I whispered to her, making the smallest of smiles appear on her face.
