I wake up to the chirping birds outside the window. I totally forgot to set my alarm clock but I went to bed so early I still have plenty of time to get ready. I try to move but I automatically notice that I can't. I look down to see a pair of arms wrapped around me. I already know what's going on the second I notice. I then manage to release my arm from his grasp and swing it back to hit him in the face.
"Oww~" He said nudging his head into my back instead of letting me go.
"Let me go or I'll swing again."
"Sorry I always wake up as a guy so you are gonna have to deal with it cause I refuse to sleep anywhere but the bed." He said finally letting me go.
"You know I expected you to act perkier since you're a neko and all."
"I can act however I want. I'm hungry. Feed me." He says bluntly.
"Tch. Do it yourself. Be grateful that I'm letting you stay here." I retort as I walk to the bathroom.
I start to get ready for school. I brush my teeth, and put on my uniform. Oh wait. Hayate doesn't have a uniform. I walk out and I start to smell something really good.
"Hayate?" I ask walking into the kitchen.
I then notice the small kitchen table has 2 plates both with eggs and bacon on them.
"You're welcome." Hayate says while sitting down.
"Hayate. You need a uniform for school." I say stuffing eggs in my mouth.
"While you were knocked out yesterday I went to get one at the school store." (My school has a school store for buying uniforms at so I'm just thinking about that.)
"I guess I did go to bed pretty early."
"Yeah...it was ridiculous. I still need attention you know. I'm still part cat." He said dropping his ears.
I couldn't help myself. I then reached out and poked his ear. It twitched in response. I then started to feel them for a bit longer. It was weird because he seems like the type to say 'don't touch me' or something like that. But instead he just waited for me to finish touching his ears.
"Thanks that felt good~" He said as he rested his head on the table sleepily.
"We gotta go soon come on!" I say pulling his ears.
He then let out a slight growl.
"Geez you kind of act like a dog-"
"Whatever lets go." He said pulling my ears.
"Ow~" I say slapping his hands away.
He then just smirks.
~Time Skip to School Campus~
As we walk through the front entrance of the campus I already notice several people are staring. So much for making friends. Not like a care. After a few more seconds I feel Hayate grab my hand.
"What are you doing?" I ask blankly.
"There are too many people here. It's freaking me out." He responds in a monotone voice.
After this action I notice some girls glaring at me. I mean, Hayate is pretty cute but I really didn't know some girls could be this hostile. I decide not to let go of his hand because every time a new group of people walked by us he started to grasp my hand tighter. It made me feel bad for him, considering he's worse with people than I am, which I thought was impossible.
I lead him to our new classroom and before I can even let go of his hand he drags me to the back where there are 2 desks laid out together.
"I want you to sit next to me." He says, pulling me down in the chair next to his.
"Fine."
He then slowly takes his hood off. I then smacked his hand before he could completely reveal his ears.
"Are you stupid? That will scare people." I say glaring.
"Are you sure you're just scared someone will wanna make me their pet? Don't worry your place is way too comfy to give up." He says patting my head reassuringly.
That's not really what I meant but ok. As we sit in class for a little while longer several people started to flood in. We did get there pretty early. Then I notice a guy walk over to my desk.
(BTW you are considered very pretty in the book which will explain what is just about to happen.)
"Hey you must be new here. I'm Naoko what's your name?" The guy asked nicely.
(This'll be what Naoko looks like.)
I didn't know if he was talking to me or Hayate so I just decided to stay where I am and not respond.
"My name is Hayate, and this beauty is Y/n." Hayate said speaking up.
From that comment my face turned beat red.
"Haha! Are you two together?" Naoko asks looking directly at me.
Despite the question obviously being for me Hayate responds for me again.
"Yep!" He said smiling.
I then hit him in the back of the head.
"Stupid, together as in dating." I say shaking my head automatically assuming he didn't know what being together means.
"Oh. hehe." He laughed nervously scratching the back of his neck.
"Haha! Hey. You're funny maybe you should hang out with us." He said gesturing to the group of people surrounding an empty desk.
This guy is obviously popular as hell.
I look over at Hayate who doesn't seem so happy about me talking to this guy. I'm not so happy about talking to him either.
"Nah. I don't feel like getting up from my desk." I say resting my head on the top of my desk, while slowly closing my eyes.
"Well then can you at least eat lunch with me?" He said with hope in his voice.
"No! She's eating lunch with me." Hayate says completely interrupting him.
There was silence for a second as I thought it through.
"I'm gonna eat lunch with Hayate. I know him a bit better."
Even though I just met him yesterday I already know Hayate is blunt, perverted, likes to take action without thinking, and feels bad very easily.
"Well, I'll try again tomorrow Y/n!" Naoko says while walking off.
"I may not have known what 'being together' is, but it is so obvious that guy was coming on to you, and I sure as hell didn't like it." Hayate says glaring in the guys direction.
Once class starts everything is just like any normal class period. Surprisingly, Hayate never did anything weird during class accept he stared at me a lot. Naoko would also look back and wave to me pretty often during the class but I wouldn't wave back I just stared.
Once the period was over it was lunch time and I was about to walk off with Hayate until a group of girls stopped me.
"I know you are new here but I just want to tell you now. Stop flirting with Naoko." One of them said while glaring at me.
Before I could even say a word Hayate already stood in front of me.
"Back off." He said returning the girl's glare.
"Make me new kid." She spat.
"I don't care if you're a girl or not I will hit you." He said stepping forward.
"Geez what an ass hole"
"And I thought he was cute." One said while the rest of the group walked away.
I then turned to him.
"Why did you do that?" I asked looking up at him.
"Well, you gave me a place to stay so I thought the least I could do was defend you from those girls." He said smiling while holding a thumbs up.
That's the first time he has really smiled. It's cute.
I smiled back at him and once he saw me smile at him he kind of stared at me wide eyed.
~Hayate's POV~
Wow. I thought she would never smile but now that I've seen her smile I can see why that guy had his eyes on her.
After that thought she grabbed my hand and took me to the rooftop. She told me no one really eats on the rooftop during August because it's still really hot outside then. So I can take my hoodie off if we eat up there.
"I didn't pack a lunch" I say frowning.
"Haha. You thought I was gonna pack one for you?" She says smiling.
She sure has been smiling a lot ever since I helped her out with those girls. I'm not complaining though.
"Yeah..." I say bringing my ears down trying to look sad.
"Fine you can have mine it's the least I can do after you did that for me." She said while leaning on the railings, closing her eyes.
"Wow. You sure do sleep a lot." I say without even thinking.
She doesn't respond. Wow she's out already.
I'll let her sleep for a little while.
