Door MP13Girl

Weeks went by, and Nay was just as strict as ever. We rarely were allowed to leave the DAU, especially unattended, and we hadn't seen Lena since. She probably knew it wasn't the best idea for her to come around anymore.

I still felt weird whenever I was around Dex, and I had no idea why. I chose to ignore whatever I was feeling because it was nothing but troublesome.

All we had been doing for these few weeks was training. That was it. None of us were pleased by this, but Aiden hated it the most. He wanted to go out searching for Malicius and Lynx.

But honestly, I didn't mind the training all that much. Though I wasn't completely fantastic at my powers, I was better than I ever had been before. We all were better at our powers now, and Hank and Nay noticed this.

“You've all been working very hard these last few weeks,” Nay sighed as we stood before her and Hank in the meeting room. “So Hank and I have decided that it may just be time for your first real mission against Malicius and Lynx. This time, you'll be coming to them instead of them coming to you.”

Aiden fist-pumped. “Yeah! Alright!”

“Now, don't get so excited, Aiden,” Nay now continued, and I knew that there was a catch. “This mission actually only pertains to Kristie and Violet.”

Aiden immediately deflated while Kristie inflated and I just stood there, not understanding what Nay was talking about. Why did she only need Kristie and me?

“There was a tip that told us where Lynx is going to be later tonight,” Hank now explained, and I didn’t know if I liked where this was going or not. “We only want two of you going, and we’ve chosen Kristie and Violet.”

I didn’t know how I felt about this. I didn’t think that it would be the easiest to work with Kristie, but I knew I couldn’t say this. So I just stayed silent and let Kristie talk.

“Where is Lynx going to be?” she asked, saving me from having to do so.

“A club,” Hank answered.

I almost let out a laugh, because I assumed that they were just joking. They didn’t really expect me to go to a club, right? Not only were Kristie and I not even old enough to get into a club, but I was me! Hank and Nay should have known that I wouldn’t be comfortable going into such tiny, cramped space with a bunch of sweaty strangers.

“What are we supposed to do when we get there?” I couldn’t help but ask, since I didn’t really know much about clubs beside the fact that there was drinking and dancing. Not my kind of party.

“We want you to locate Lynx and try to subdue her,” Nay informed us simply now, as if this was the easiest task in the world. “Your job at the DAU is to not kill your opponent. You only need to capture them and bring them here. If you kill them, you’re the one that ends up getting in trouble.”

Believe me when I say I was not planning on killing Lynx. I didn’t even think I would be capable of doing so.

“You both are going to need makeovers before you go,” Nay now informed us, and that was definitely not something I was looking forward to. “You both have to pass as girls who know what they’re doing and go to clubs all the time. It shouldn’t be that hard.”

Nay clapped her hands, and suddenly multiple women dressed in black made their way into the room. Three of them then grabbed onto me and yanked me out of the room while Kristie was yanked by the rest of them in the opposite direction.

I said nothing to protest, mostly because I knew complaining was not going to help me in the slightest.

I was led into a room filled with many mirrors and devices that looked like they were made for torture, but they were really just for your hair. I did not like this in the slightest, and even though the women saw this, they didn’t care.

Apparently, I first had to get dressed into something they were concealing from me, which made me feel very nervous. But when they finally let me see it, I knew why they had hid it from me.

The dress was short, strapless, and purple. Something I’d never wear in a million years. Something I wouldn’t ever be able to pull off no matter how hard I tried.

“No way.” Short, revealing things were where I drew the line. “Sorry, but I'm not changing into that.”

The woman holding the dress shook her head. “It was chosen specifically by Miss Burns. It's an order.”

For a second, I didn't know who she was talking about, but then I remembered that it was only Nay. But that didn't make me feel any better.

I pulled the dress out of the woman's hands and grumbled to myself as I made my way toward the other room to change. I knew that I was about to get very uncomfortable.

And I was right. After I squeezed myself into the dress, it was obvious that it was too small for me. I didn't know if that was how it was supposed to be or if I really was just too big for it.

When I made my way back out to the other room, the women grabbed me again and pushed me down into a chair. I was then poked and prodded at for what felt like hours, though I was sure it was only one. They curled my hair, though I didn’t pay much attention to this because I was afraid that they were going to burn me.

When I was done, I hardly recognized myself. I was now two inches taller because of my heels, and this dress was something I would never normally wear. And don’t even get me started on my makeup and hair.

Surprisingly, Kristie wasn’t finished before I was. I thought that she would be; I even expected for her to be done in only a few minutes, because what could she possibly need to make herself look better? Nothing.

I didn't want to have to face anyone from my team, so I quickly made my way outside and into the RV. He didn't say anything as I got on board, and I realize he didn't because I was not the only one on the bus.

Dex stared at me in shock, and I immediately felt self-conscious. His eyes were wide. “You look…”

“Weird, right?” I guessed, looking down at the purple dress that was too small for me.

“Yeah,” Dex nodded, his eyes never leaving me. “But a good kind of weird.”

I didn't know what to say to this, so I didn't say anything at all.

“You ready?” he finally asked, saving me from having to start a conversation.

Honestly? I wasn’t. I didn’t think I’d ever be ready for this type of thing. I was locked away in my bedroom for five years, and then when I finally left, I was surrounded by people with powers; I had no idea how normal people acted toward each other.

“I really don’t want to do this,” I sighed, not even sitting down on one of the seats of the RV, but on the floor against the wall instead. “I wish Kristie could have done this on her own, or with someone else. It isn’t required for us both to be girls.”

Dex let out a sigh also as he sat down next to me. “Well, they knew they couldn’t send Aiden with her or else he would have been distracted by what she was wearing and scaring off anyone that tried to talk to her,” Dex informed me, and I guess he had a point. “Anthony doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that would go to a club, and I... Well, I don’t know why they didn’t pick me. But I’m glad they didn’t.”

I wondered what he might have looked like if he had gotten picked instead. I didn’t know how guys dressed when they went to clubs, so I didn’t know what I was supposed to imagine. But I stopped myself from doing so, because I’d probably just end up embarrassing myself in my head.

“I just don’t want to go and see every drooling over Kristie,” I murmured truthfully into my knees, not caring if Dex heard me or not. “I’m so tired of seeing how everyone thinks she’s so perfect while she’s completely oblivious to everyone else’s feelings.”

“How do you know she’s oblivious?” he asked.

I shrugged. “I can tell.”

This didn’t seem to be a good enough answer for Dex. “What do you mean?”

I didn’t know how I was supposed to explain this to him, so I kind of just sat there for a minute or two and just thought. Finally, I decided that an example would be the best way to try to explain this.

“Like, with you and Aiden,” I began to explain, them being the first two that came to my mind. “I know that you think he’s annoying and he thinks you’re obnoxious. You don’t like each other. You don’t get along. But that one’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?”

Dex shrugged. “I guess.”

“Alright, then you and Lena,” I continued, and now Dex blanched. “I know you two were attracted to each other. You didn’t exactly keep it a secret at first, but every time you two were together I thought you were going to pounce on each other right then and there in front of everybody.”

Dex seemed uncomfortable now, but I didn’t blame him. I would feel uncomfortable if someone was talking about how attracted I was to another person. So I decided to change the subject.

“And I could tell Hank and Nay were in love right away,” I shrugged, adding this just to prove my point. “I don’t know why I know this, but I do. I always have. I can even do it with humans.”

“That’s an impressive power.” Dex actually seemed impressed, which made me blush for some reason even more. “Is there anything you can’t do? I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re the one that can erase memories.”

I couldn’t help but make a face. “I sure hope not. That’ll just be too much for me.”

“Hah, maybe you’re right,” Dex now laughed. “But I still think it’s really cool that you can tell how people feel toward each other.”

“It would be cool if I could tell how people feel toward me,” I muttered, not meaning for Dex to hear me, but he did. He gave me a look that asked me to explain. “I know how other people feel about each other, but I don’t know how they feel about me. I’ve never been able to tell.”

I bit down on the inside of my lip. The fact I couldn’t tell how people felt about me other bothered me, because I never knew whether they liked me or disliked me. That was another reason why I stayed in my room so much. If I stayed away from people, there wasn’t a chance that they could dislike me.

“So… you can’t tell how I feel about you?” Dex questioned, just to make sure.

I shook my head. “No, I can’t.”

His face was now closer to mine as he whispered, “You really can’t tell?”

My eyes flickered down to his lips, and then back up to his eyes. “I really can’t,” I finally responded, breathless.

When his lips touched mine, I didn’t know how I was supposed to react. Dex was kissing me. Dex was actually kissing me. And I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to be doing about it.

When I pushed him away, it wasn’t because I wanted to. It was because I was scared. But Dex, obviously, didn’t realize this.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized, turning away from me. “I shouldn’t have done that. I didn’t know you didn’t want to.”

“No, it's not that I don't want to,” I breathed, moving closer to him once again. “I just… I don't know how.”

Dex blinked. “What?”

“My first kiss was when you kissed me in the car when we were following Nay around,” I explained, not wanting to relive the awkward memory. He already knew that that had been my first kiss. “I didn't even kiss you back. I didn't know how.”

Dex didn't seem to understand how it was possible for me not to know how to kiss someone, and I immediately grew embarrassed. This was a terrifyingly awkward subject and I was talking like a child.

“Do you want me to teach you?”

I nearly fell over. The last thing I ever expected to come out of his mouth was that. I thought he would just move on and forget about kissing me ever again, I didn’t know he wanted to kiss me so badly that he was willing to teach me, whatever that meant.

Dex obviously took my silence and terrified expression as rejection. He turned away from me as he said, “Unless you want Anthony to teach you.”

Now I grew confused. “Why would I want Anthony to teach me?”

Dex looked at me with a look I couldn’t read. “Because you like him, don't you?”

“Yeah, but why would that have anything to do with me kissing him?” I had to ask, since I didn’t understand why he would bring Anthony up at a time like this. He had absolutely nothing to do with anything that was going on at that moment.

Dex looked at me as if I was insane. “What are you even talking about?”

I merely blinked. “What are you talking about?”

“You like Anthony,” he repeated, saying this slowly in case I was stupid or something. This time it wasn’t a question.

I nodded. “I do like him,” I answered now. “But I don't want to kiss him.”

Dex looked completely confused as he just stared at me now. He couldn't even think of anything to say to me, and neither could I, so I just sat there and waited for something to happen.

I didn’t know what was going on anymore. I didn’t know why he was asking me these ridiculous questions, or why he was acting the way he was. I just didn’t get it.

“If you had the chance to date Anthony,” he started now, still slowly. “Would you?”

“What?” I practically squawked. “Of course not! Why would I?”

“Because you like him!”

“I like Aiden and Kristie too, but that doesn't mean I want to date them!”

Dex seemed to be processing this all slowly. When he finally understood what was going on, when he finally realized that we had both been misunderstanding each other for weeks, he almost hit his head on this side of the RV.

He ran his hand through his hair. “You just like Anthony as a friend?”

I made a face. “I don't have any friends.”

“Whatever,” he waved this detail away like it was nothing. “You only like Anthony as an acquaintance, not romantically?”

“Romantically?” I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought. “No way! Sure, Anthony’s cute, but in more of a little brother kind of way. There’s nothing romantic going on between the two of us at all.”

Dex looked like he had no idea what he was supposed to say. He was completely speechless, which was something I had never seen from him before. It really was weird. But then when he turned toward me with a look in his eye I couldn’t read, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.

Suddenly, he leaned forward and crashed his lips to mine. His hands on my hips, we fell right over, with him on top of me.

I was kind of scared, at first. I still had no idea what I was doing, and I was afraid of embarrassing myself. But after maybe thirty seconds of not kissing him back, I tried to mimic what he was doing. And it actually worked.

My hands snaked up to his neck, my lips never leaving his. I definitely wasn’t a good kisser just yet, but at least I understood that I had to move my lips and not just sit there. That was good information to know.

We then heard a whistle, causing us to immediately pull apart from each other, though Dex did not get off from on top of me. We looked around for the source of the sound, but saw that no one was in the RV with us.

“Boy, does this bring back memories!” a familiar accented voice now called out, and my face went crimson. RV had pretty much been there the entire time, watching us.

“I forgot the RV could talk,” I groaned, still underneath Dex.

“This brings back memories of your parents, Violet!” RV now laughed at the memories. “They were always in the back together doing things and—”

“Alright!” I cried out, pushing Dex off of me and sitting up. “I might like hearing stories about my parents, but not stories like that.

RV snickered. “Alright, alright. I understand,” he sighed, though I was sure this wasn’t the end of uncomfortable stories about my parents. “But if you guys want to get one more quick kiss in, you better do it now, because everyone’s heading toward us right now.”

“RV, we don’t need to get another kiss in—” I started, but was then cut off by Dex’s lips on mine for only a brief second, not giving me enough time to kiss back. He winked at me before rolling off of me right when our mentors and teammates made their way into the RV.

“Alright, girls,” Nay sighed once we were all inside. “You ready?”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dex and Violet are just making out on the floor of the RV. Okay.

I know I've already asked this question, but I'm going to ask it again because you know the characters a little better now. Favorite and least favorite character and why? Favorite and least favorite couple and why?

It's two in the morning so if the chapter's all bleh then that's why.
