D. Gray Man RP—Chapter Four

We stopped at a train station stop thingy after 2 hours. It was probably the longest 2 hours of Kanda’s life. I laughed silently. I keep annoying him after he threatened to kill me. Of course, I knew he was only threatening. After the first hour of torture from me he just started to ignore me. Before he would occasionally say ‘che’ or give me the look ‘God, why are you so annoying?’

But after, he just completely ignored me. I haven’t given up. I’ve already thought of a prank I’m going to pull after we get back to the Order. An evil smirk crawled onto my pale face.

“So, where exactly are we going again?” I have NO idea where we’re heading to except the fact that it’s somewhere in Japan.

“Tokyo,” Kanda replied indifferently, “Can’t you remember that much? Oh, wait, your brain is the size of a pea.”

                “No need to be rude.”

                “Che.”

“Fine! Keeping saying that!!! I’ll just ask Sora!!” Sora’s the finder that’s guiding us to our destination. Kanda just ignored me, like usual.

Gosh, why is he so rude all the time?! Thinks he’s all that huh?

                “Hey, Sora?”

“Yes, Akira-san?” He asked kindly. Why can’t Kanda be as nice as Sora? Or the other finders.

“Where EACTLY are we going for the mission?” I asked nicely.

“Apparently, there’s been a lot of akuma attacks in Tokyo these days. The most amount of akuma attacks are in the center of the city. We’re going to see if it haves anything to do with an innocence.” He explained patiently.

“Ohhhh, that makes sense I guess. Are there Level Ones or Level Twos?” I’ve only been at the Order for a few days but whenever Allen nii-san came to visit, I would ask about his ‘job’. He told me a lot about the Black Order. He tells me a lot of secrets about the Order too, but I’ve known him for years, it’s obvious that he’s keeping something from me. Even though I know he’s hiding something, I don’t pry. If he wants to tell me, he can, if he doesn’t, then he doesn’t.

“I’m not sure, but the reports of akuma attacks say that they’re mostly Level Ones, and some Level Twos. Rarely Level Threes. I’m guessing that they’re trying to level up.”

I nodded to show that I understood what he was talking about.

“Che,” Kanda said suddenly, “I don’t know why they send me to destroy Level Ones. Can’t they just send some newbie?”

I glared at him, “Yes, they didn’t send some ‘newbie.’” Obviously, he was either trying to piss me off, or he’s just stupid. Probably a little of both.

We walked off the train, ignoring the occasionally stares we were getting from all the strangers. We were wearing exorcist coats. I smirked, it makes you feel so special you know? I LOVE my exorcist suite, it’s warm and cute.

The bottom is about ten inches above my knee. They’re shorts. I might have them change it slightly and make it a skirt...but who wears a skirt while fighting? Oh, wait, Lenalee does, but she’s cool enough to pull that off. I also have tights on; it keeps me warm in the winter. The outfit comes with a dark blue silk tie. I’m also wearing a small coat that covers my thigh just slightly. There’s the Rose Cross on the right side of the coat. There’s also a smaller version of the Rose Cross on the top I’m wearing. Just in case I lose my coat.

I digged through my suitcase for a snack. Luckily, I put the cookies Jerry made for me on top of everything else. There were also some crackers and bread (he was worried we were going to get lost or something, but even if we did, I wouldn’t share anything of these goodies with Kanda, probably just a little with Sora).

The train slowly left without us. Koumi-san thought it would be better if we had a rest and then left for Japan again. In around an hour, there’s going to be another train arriving at the station that’s heading for China. Our plan is to get to China and then head to Japan on boat.

I munched on my scrumptious chocolate cookies while watching the mundane landscape. I sat down on the old, color-faded wooden bench. There were some trees about 30 metres away. You can see that they were turning faintly turning yellow. Most of it was still green, but there were small blotches of yellow appearing. I pulled my coat around myself tightly, buttoning it up.

I sat there, doing nothing for over 20 minutes. I started feel droopy, my eyes wouldn’t stay open. I almost had a heart attack when I heard a high pitched scream.

“Ahhhh!!!!” The scream was filled with horror, “Somebody! HELP!!!”

Kanda stoop up immediately. He snapped his head towards that direction. I lifted myself off the bench slowly; afraid I might lose my balance if I stoop up too suddenly. He sprinted towards the cry. I followed behind him, my brain was hazy. Everything was registering too slowly. I managed to drag myself out of my dream state. I cleared my mind of everything.

                “Mugen, activate!” Kanda yelled.

His katana glowed dark blue. I tore my eyes away from Mugen and they landed on several Level One akuma. I have to help! I doubt that Kanda would need my help at all to defeat these akuma, but I can still try to help right?

I looked at the cerulean gems on my sliver necklace. A delicate scythe hang from the sliver chain. Everything about it screamed intricate.

“Innocence, activate,” I whispered under my breathe. I was starting to pant.

The elaborate handle appeared in my hands. I looked at the sharp weapon, dangerous. I still didn’t know how to fight with it but I can always try can’t I?

Everything was in chaos. People were screaming their heads off. Running around the train station clueless. The huge monsters were shooting purple beams. I have to stop them. I can’t let them going around hurting innocent people. Before I knew it, I was racing towards the closest one. I raised my scythe, ready to strike. The beast turned its body to face me. The thing fired a purple beam at me. I barely dodged the attack. It caught about an inch of my hair. Great, now my hair isn’t the same length.

“You’re going to pay!!!” My anger boiled inside of me. I slashed at the stupid akuma. How dare it cut my hair off!

I jumped out of the way just as it exploded into nothing but dust. I charged at another, it had the same reaction as the first one; it exploded again. I looked around just in time to see Kanda take care of the last one. Whoa, he’s fast.

A huge smile broke onto my face, it stretched from one side to the other. I just destroyed an akuma. I just destroyed my very first akuma (well, second). I felt giddy and excited. I just help save like 100 people—more than a 100 people.

I turned around to Kanda and Sora to smile at them but then it hit me. There were 2 people dead. There were nothing left of them except their clothes. I felt like I wanted puke. Something came up my throat, but I managed to push it down, instead, I coughed. I couldn’t stop coughing. How can Kanda and Sora stand this? They were just standing there as if nothing happened, or at least Kanda is. Sora had a pained expression. Tears pricked at my eyes. How can they stand watching people die? Was this what it was like on the battlefield? No, there were probably even more dead people.

I crouched down so I wouldn’t have to see what was left of the people who we couldn’t protect. Suddenly, I felt as if everything was my fault. They died because I didn’t get here in time! It was my fault! It’s my fault they’re dead. It’s my fault they’re nothing but dust now. It’s my fault that they’re families are going to be crying when they hear the news.

                It’s my fault.

If only I’ve noticed the akuma earlier. If only I had Allen nii-san’s left eye. If only I was stronger. Is this how Allen nii-san, Lavi and Lenalee felt when someone died when they were fighting the akuma. Guilt?

I shook my head, this wasn’t entirely my fault! I tried my best! It’s the Millennium Earl’s fault, not mine, not Kanda’s.

Tears fell down my face. I keep trying to blame this on the bad guys. But no matter what I told myself, I still felt the guilt.

Is this what it’s like to be an exorcist? What has everyone else gone through?

This is my first day of destroying an akuma. What will the rest of my days be like?
