True Happiness

True happiness
Is a babys first cry
Sharply piercing the air
The first sign of life
It is a babys first laugh
A sudden bark, a bubbly giggle,
Or even a cackle ending with a snort
Any of these will surely
Bring a smile to your face
It is the first steps your child takes
The pitter pattering of little feet
Slightly staggering towards your open arms
It is when they say 'mom' or 'dad'
Although it may not be the first words
But the recognition is so sweet
it is their first day of school
Snapping pictures, crying
Because they don't want to leave
it is their last day of school
Graduation, also crying
Because now they have to leave
It is the day they go hand in hand
With their life partner
With you standing right by their side
It is the day they welcome
Their own little one into this world
And true happiness starts all over again
