"No." - Hijikata replied firmly , without a second of hesitation.
"C'mon, Toushirou-kun! Pleeeeeaaaaaase!" - you begged your best friend with your best puppy eyes.
"I'm busy. Not a chance." - he replied absolutely unfased.
"Pleaseeeeee! This is important! The Summer festival only happens, once a year! And this way we can go together for the first time!! I promise you'll have fun!" - you insisted, not backing down either.
"I've got work to do. Almost all of the members of the Shinsengumi are asking for the day off and someone has to protect the streets of Edo. Go ask Kondo-san or Sougo. I bet they're both skipping on their duties anyway..." - the Demon Vice Chief commented. Sometimes he could be extremely stubborn.
"I already did! But both of them already have plans. Kondo-san is going to stalk-, I mean, going to go to the festival with Otae-san and Sou-kun as prepared a plan to ruin Kagura-chan's holiday! If I go with them I'll just be a third wheel!!!Please go with me!" - you cried out.
"Then just go alone!" - the man with V-shaped bangs roared, starting to get at the end of his patience.
"Don't be so cruel! You know It's sad to go alone to a festival! I'll just look like some looser! And besides, if I go alone pervert jerks are bond to start hitting on me!" - you pleaded with him once more.
"Don't you have any friends outside of the Shinsengumi?!" - he yelled with his eyebrows twitching in annoyance.
You stopped for a second. Actually, that simple thought hadn't crossed your mind a single time. One look at your face and Hijikata easily understood that as well. He could read you like an open book.
"Seriously?! You didn't ever thought of it?! Just go a leave me alone! I've got a job to do!" - he screamed from the top of his longues, throwing you out.
After that, you were left with no other option: go to your other bestfriend's house.
Time Skipp-----------------------------------
It was 11 p. m. when Hijikata finally reached the end of what looked like an infinite stack of paper work.
He looked at the clock and his mind went straight to you. Your conversation kept passing throught his mind over and over, specially the part where you said that you could end up bothered by some random disgusting pig the entire festival. That was what hurt the most and his conscience couldn't take it either.
He still had some time, so he decided to meet you at the festival. It would be a little unexpected, but he knew you weren't the type of person to get mad at this. With some luck, you could still be there.
He couldn't bare even the idea of some Ossan or Madao hitting on you. That thought seemed to take quite a toll on him as he dressed his kimono, in reccord time, and sprinted towards the festival.
Time Skipp-----------------------------------
Hijikata ran adrift in the middle of a huge crowd, looking in every direction, still clinging to the hope of finding you. It was an almost impossible task, but nonetheless, he actually managed to track you down by your (f/c) hair pin and kimono. You always were wearing something with that colour.
There you were. At the front of a dumpling shop along with some man. Hijikata didn't pay him much attention though , since the only thing that he could think of was reaching you.
Once he got to your location, getting your attention and making you turn to face him along with the man who was accompanying you.
Hijikata's face paled for a second, when he realised that his worst nightmare had come to pass.
You weren't just with some perverted jerk. No. To make matters worse, you were having a great time alongside the almighty king of all jerks and perverts, the person who managed to infuriate Hijikata the most in all of Edo (and that was saying something, remembering that he had to live with Okita), none other than The Yorozuya's leader, Sakata Gintoki.
Once he recognized the policeman's face, Gintoki didn't have an happy reaction either. He started digging up his nostril with his left hand, while the other was occupied by the task and great pleasure of being linked with yours.
On the other hand, your face light up, you never thought that Hijikata would actually come, after all the turndowns he had gave you a few hours ago. It made you extremely happy. So, before he and Gintoki could start an argument you greeted him with a bright grin:
"Toushirou-kun! I didn't know you were comming! Why don't you hang out with us?" - you exclaimed, beyond excited.
Your silver haired friend was the first one to show is reluctance:
"Oi, oi, oi! You ask a guy out and now your asking a third wheel man to go on a date with us? And the worst part is that he is a wheel that stinks of mayonnaise!" - he grunted, clearly trying to provoke Hijikata.
"Date?!" - you said surprised, you hadn't thought of it in that way - "N-No I just...I mean...we were just out to have some fun...R-right, Gin? You don't thought that this was a date, right? N-N-Not that I wouldn't like to go on a d-date with you--" - your face started heating up and you were so flustered that you just decided to stop talking and ran ahead the two man - " A-Anyway, let's go, you guys!!!"
This time around, Gintoki got a little embaressed himself, not expecting your answer to be this adorable and a little blush crept onto his face as he replied - " F-Fine."
Then, he started acting tough to hide his clear happyness. It wasn't very usual for a girl to tell him something cute like that, much less the one he liked. At least not a woman that wasn't imaginary or from an Otome Game.
On the other hand, The Demon Vice Chief got really annoyed with all your close interactions.
Why was he the third wheel, when he had been the one you asked out first? And why the hell would you pick Yorozuya as your second option? He'd rather have you going out with the virgin megane than the unbearable silver haired samurai.
Fortunately, Even though his situation seemed almost hopeless in his perspective, Hijikata wasn't ready to back down, much less to loose to Yorozuya. Not even in a million of years he would have that... So, taking advantage of Gintoki's tsundere behavior, the Demon Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi took the initiative of grabbing your hand.
"(Y/n), why don't we go to that snack shop, over there? I heard they take personalized orders! They can even make the Katsudon Hijikata special!" - the man suggested, while giving Gintoki a confident smirk, where you could clearly read: "Now, who is the third wheel?!".
Gintoki gave him a glare with his dead fish eyes right back. He shouldn't have left his guard down.
"That looks promising..."- you began replying him. Hijikata's metallic blue eyes sparkled, tasting the smell of victory, while Gintoki's cursed him. - "... But Gin and I, just finished eating a few moments ago, you see..." - you turned him down as politely as you could, trying your best not to hurt his feelings.
'Of course you did!!! I miscalculated. Shit! Now that damn bastard is gonna...' - Hijikata thought turning his head to the sweet loving samurai.
Gintoki gave him a sadistic triumphant smirk, before talking to you.
"We still have a little time to spare before the fireworks start, so how about we go together check out the attractions? I heard this year, they brought a new Amanto roller coaster." - he said faking innocence - "It's a much better idea than eating dog food..." - he muttered under his breath, so you didn't heard him.
That of course didn't escape Hijikata's ears, but he contained himself as best as he could, to not cause trouble for you. He was so gonna kill that perm headed bastard after this...
Time Skipp---------------------
Once you reached your goal, you didn't understood your friend's intentions, but it only took Hijikata one look to understand the truth almost immediatly, once his eyes landed on the roller coaster you were going to ride. He could read his rival's plan from a mile away, like he was an open book...
The sits for the attraction were divided in lines of two, wich meant that whoever sited next to you, not only could be the one holding your hand if you ever got scared, but also could have the enemy totally out of sight in the back sit, at least until the ride was over.
Both Hijikata and Gintoki started racing towards the rollercoaster, each one of them trying to claim the sit beside you first. Or at least, that was their plan... until some uninvited guests showed up: your other friends. It was Kagura, Shinpachi and Otae, all wearing yukatas.
You got excited just by seeing them and of course, you ended up inviting them to come ride the roller coaster with you as well.
Gintoki and Hijikata cursed them inside their heads. If things kept going this way, they would both end up as third wheels.
Consequently, they decided on a temporary truce, since what was most important at the moment was getting rid of the nonsenses and only then, their rivalry could proceed.
Gintoki tapped Kagura's shoulder and, getting her attention, whispered to her:
"Ne, Kagura-chan how about you get Anego and go ride some other attraction of the festival? There are plenty more interesting and fun ones..." - he said with a fake smile.
"No way, Gin-chan! I've been waiting ages to ride on this thing!" - she complained with pure innocense.
"C'mon, Kagura! Gin-chan is on a date here! Can't you make a favor to dear old Gin-chan and get those idiots out of here?" - he pleaded with the vermillion girl.
"Nothing is free in this life." - Kagura stated, showing off the side she had gotten from Gintoki himself. (A/n: Dadtoki is best daddy, jus saying...😅😅😅)
"Fine, I'll buy you five packs of sukonbu, so just go away!!!" - he sighed, beaten.
"Make it seven and we have a deal!" - Kagura bargained.
"You little..." - the man cursed.
"I'm a growing girl, you know-aru?!" - she insisted.
"Fine..."
"Yayyyy! You got it, Gin-chan!" - the Yato girl said cheerfully.
Then, she ran towards Shinpachi and Otae. Once she reached them, she just shouted out with her usual cheerfulness :
"Anego, look! It's a flying gorila!" - she exclaimed, pointing at Kondo that was spying on Otae from the top of a shop's told.
While Otae was distracted with beating the crap out of her personal stalker, the vermillion turned to Shinpachi and grabbed his glasses.
"Kagura-chan, What are you doing?!" - Shinpachi yelled.
"Sorry Patsuan, but this all for the sake of Gin-chan's almost impossible dream of having a love life!!" - she said smilling kindly towards the glasses, with tears at the corners of her eyes.
Then, she broke one of the glasses' stems and called her precious big sis:
"Anego! Shinpachi broke a leg! We have to take him to the hospital now!"
"Shin-chan!" - Otae yelled with an very dangerously injured Kondo in one of her hands and softly stroking the glasses reassuringly with the other.
Shinpachi was about to start his tsukomis of how he wasn't just a pair of glasses or about his sister's psycho tendencies, but then, he just gave up and decided to leave along with the others, giving you three some time alone on your " date".
Once they were gone, you guys started waiting in the line for the attraction with Gintoki and Hijikata playing rock paper Scissors to decide wich of them would sit beside you. You weren't very interested in their squabble , so you just looked around, until something caught your eye.
"Why don't we go there instead?!" - you said pointing somewhere and getting their attention.
They both turned their gaze towards the direction you were pointing and, unfortunately, uncovered that you were signaling a haunted house.
They turned to you, thinking of a polite way to tell you no, but once their eyes met yours, full of glitter and hope, they couldn't say it. So you all just ended up going to their worst nightmare.
Once, you were inside the house, Hijikata and Gintoki couldn't stop shaking in fear, you, on the other hand, looked as cheerful as ever, laughing at the badly done paintings and unrealistic monsters.
Things really took a turn for the more interesting though, when you reached the ghost's part of your little travel. You were amazed by the special effects, but quickly forgot about them, when you felt something sweaty, but warm and soft around your hands. You looked down and found out that it was Gintoki and Hijikata's hands, one for each of your sides.
You couldn't believe grown man would be so scared of some little fake ghosts, but nonetheless you found absolutely adorable how scared they were and how they had come all this way, despite their fears, just to make her happy anyway.
Feeling a little guilty for all of this, you guided them through the dark hallways, holding their hands firmly and never letting them go until you reached the exit. To your surprise, somewhere along the way, you noticed that the samurai weren't so tense anymore.
Time Skipp-------------------
You were all taking a break, while resting at some street benches, you had found by pure luck.
To try and cheer your friends up, you bought them a snack. A (f/f) flavored for you, a sweet one for Gintoki and other covered in mayo for Hijikata, of course.
So now, you were eating calmly. Then, without any warning the the fireworks started. You were so caught up in everything happening you almost had forgot completely about them.
All of you took your time to contemplate them. They were astonishing, Will all kinds of gorgeous colors.
"Great! Now we totaly look like some cliche shoujo anime..." - Gintoki commented, while taking a bite of his food.
"Not that this was a good anime to begin with..." - Hijikata continued.
The silver permed samurai was about to make another commentary, when his eyes got lost on something far more amazing to him than the view at in front of him. Hijikata was going to make fun of him for it, but he ended up getting frozen in exactly the same way.
Both their eyes were locked in your face and your unbelievably peaceful smile. They wished they could see you like this always.
That's when it actually hit them: They were both in love with you and this wasn't just another one of their fights.
You felt two small weights suddenly on your shoulders. You felt them almost at the same time . It was Gintoki and Hijikata. Their heads were resting on you, while they stared at the sky, not able to face you directly.
You felt your face heating up, as you got redder by the second.
"W-What are you two doing?" - you asked shyly, in a whisper that only them could hear because of their closeness.
" I'm gonna take a nap now. " - the sweet loving samurai bluntly stated, closing his brownish red eyes.
" I'm tired from work and I need my sleep" - the demon vice chief justified himself, closing his eyes as well.
Leaving you out of words, you just let them be and smiled at their sleeping expressions.
They both talked tough, but both their faces were even redder than yours.
