Kyra's POV

As I lay on the couch, mindlessly watching TV with Lily who found it absolutely wondrous, I thought back on the last few uneventful days. The full moon had come and past, but without the Pride's looming threat they seemed just as uneventful as ever. Lily had been excepted into our team pretty well, because of her happy attitude and the fact she basically failed at everything she did, and that was hilarious.

I heard a knock on the door and I sighed. After pausing the TV, which earned me a few well deserved glares from Lily, I walked across the cold floor and swung open the door. There stood two girls about my age, but maybe a bit older. I was never a good judge at ages. One had black hair and blue eyes and the other had fiery orange hair with green eyes. I had never seen them before in my life.

"Hello, do I know you?" I asked to the two girls. The one with black hair started to blush badly. People from Cloudcroft were just plain weird.

"I'm Izzy and this is Skyler." The girl with orange hair introduced herself and her friend.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kyra." I said.

"We were wondering if a girl named Mae still lives here. She used to go to school with us but kinda disappeared a while back. She never came back to school after she... came back. But I see she's moved." Izzy said, blushing a little at how stupid she sounded.

"Not really." I said. "She's still around but she's on a little...um...trip at the moment." I said, making up a lie.

"Do you know when she'll be back?" Izzy asked, brightening up.

"No, sorry." I said and started to close the door.

"Wait!" Izzy said, sticking her hand through the door.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Can we talk to Mr Marwood?" Izzy asked.

"He's not home right now, but I guess you can wait for him." I sighed, knowing that these two weren't going to leave otherwise.

"Great!" Izzy said and pushed her way through the door, Skyler following behind.

"Guys we got company! So don't do anything stupid!" I shouted, hoping everyone would hear. Especially Lily.

"Who is it?" Lily asked from the couch.

"These are Mae's friends. They want to talk to her Dad about something." I said, with a forced smile. Lily got the idea and brushed past us to go outside.

"How do you know Mae, or Dex?" Skyler asked, speaking for the first time.

"I met Mae at a after school camp back in Seattle. I'm just visiting. A couple others of us got together and bought bus tickets to surprise her, but when we got here, she had gone on some trip." I said.

"Well that sucks." Izzy said, "So you're just crashing here?"

"Pretty much." I said. Then I heard the low rumble of a truck pulling into the driveway. Good. I was just saved from this game of twenty questions, with all lies for answers. I guess I should get out while I was ahead, so I walked off into the bathroom and shut the door.

As I pressed my head against the door I heard the whispers of their conversation. Then the voices became louder and more fierce. But the door still muffled the majority of their conversation. For once I wished I had a cat's hearing so I would know what was going on.

Finally I opened the door. Mr Marwood was fuming, like I'd never seen him before. If he was trying to keep his cool he was failing badly. Izzy and Skyler where glaring at him like he just said they were grounded or something. It was really bad. I wondered what they'd asked to get themselves so riled up.

Just then I saw the light shift under the doorway. Someone was standing there. I then heard a slight sharp knock. I smiled awkwardly as I went to open the door, pushing past the three arguing people. I opened the door and there stood the devil himself. Dex.

Ashley's POV

I waited quietly for Mae to return to her seat. I think she went to the bathroom, but I didn't see her leave so I wasn't sure. I was a little ashamed that I was so intent on staring out the window that I didn't see her. I glanced at the bathroom and hoped Mae would come back soon.

The door swung open and Mae walked out, followed by some other girl. Okay that wasn't weird at all. As Mae sat back down I glanced at her, confused. She just blinked, and made a guiltily face. Okay now I knew something was up. I played with my necklace a little bit, before I got bored and started glaring at Mae again.

"What were you doing?" I hissed, over a passed out Dex.

"Making friends." She smiled.

"Ya like I'm supposed to believe that. Miss Mae Marwood, who is that girl?" I asked.

"Her name is Willow. She's a werewolf, and she's going to help us." She said, and I knew I wasn't going to get any more out of her.

I sighed and continued looking out the window. We were almost in a town called Alamogordo, which was about a fifteen minute drive to Cloudcroft, as Mae had told me. We would be running the rest of the way there. I wasn't to sure how I felt about Cloudcroft though. It seemed to be like something out of a story book, with it's rivalries, and wars.

I nudged Dex awake and his eyes flew wide open, glowing red. Bad dream, I guess. He blinked and his eyes returned to their normal green. He smiled weakly and pulled off the neck pillow. I guessed that meant he was wide awake and ready for action.

"We're in Alamogordo." I said.

"Thanks for waking me. Did I miss anything?" He asked, surveying the bus for anything out of the usual.

"Mae met some other shifters." I said, "but she won't tell me anything else."

That's when the bus pulled to a stop and the driver said something inaudible over the intercom. I wondered what they said before everyone, including Mae, started getting out. I followed her and saw we were in a small, hot town. Mae pulled Dex and I to the side, where three girls stood.

"Okay this is Ava," Mae said, gesturing to the girl with pink highlights, "And this is Eliva." She said introducing the girl with black hair. "Finally Willow." She said smiling.

"Like Dillan's girlfriend?" Dex asked, quickly. It seemed like it was so because Willow looked shocked.

"You know him? Is he okay?" Willow asked rapidly.

"Chill out lady. I did some memory prying with that girl you stole Dillan from." Dex said with a slight smirk. Did he know how to find a weak spot or what?

"I didn't steal him from anyone, she broke up with him." Willow snapped, blushing a bit.

"As much as I love this little argument, I really think we should go." I said, trying to break this up before fighting started.

"Okay Ash. And Willow, she goes by Red now." Dex said before walking towards the woods.

"Wait what?" Mae said, following Dex. "You pried into Red's memories!"

"I might have gotten June to sell me some weird powder that would show me whatever I wanted in a person's mind." Dex said, grimacing as if the memory hurt him physically.

"June used some of that stuff on me!" Mae exclaimed. I sighed, knowing they were about to have a sibling feud.

I stepped back and saw that Willow was glaring at Dex and the other two were trying not to laugh. They seemed like better company than anyone else would be so I walked back to them, a smile on my face.

"Is it always like this?" Ava asked me.

"I've been with them for less than a week, and I'm pretty sure it is." I said.

"This is great! Hey are those two related, because they sure do look like it." Eliva asked.

"They're twins." I said.

"Cool." She said and we walked for a while in silence.

I saw Dex shift then Mae. Willow shifted into a large black wolf. Ava became a snow owl and took to the skies. Eliva became a small coyote. I became my normal dark red cat.

Then we ran.

After about forty minutes we got to Dex and Mae's house. I wasn't sure why we were here and not at Dex's Pride. I looked at him questionably and he just smirked. He stood in the doorway and knocked just once. The door opened and a girl in camo and straight brown hair stood there, looking shocked.

Two heartbeats later she had a knife to his throat.
