Meredith

That night I tossed and turned all night. I couldn't get the wolf out of my head. I hoped to see it again. I felt a sense of security being with him and he was absolutely beautiful. I knew Jack was suspicious about my time spent in the woods. I hadn't realised so much time had passed just sitting with that wolf.

As my luck would have it, I didn't see that wolf again. Before I knew it, a whole month had passed. I was disappointed about not seeing him and despite sneaking out into the woods almost every night, he was never there in that spot where we sat.

Things between Jack and I are still a little rocky. He's kept to his word about not hurting me ever again but I still don't trust him. He won't sign the house over to me despite everything that had happened before. He won't even tell me who this Eliot Hunt is. The only other man I've seen around this place is the gorgeous guy from before when I was meant to keep myself busy while they had a meeting. Maybe he's Eliot Hunt and maybe he's the one trying to buy my house. But they're all just maybe's. I don't really know anything.

Today  I'm having my first ultrasound. I'm nearly thirteen weeks pregnant and usually, you'd have one at twelve weeks but Jack said he wouldn't be able to make it last week so I rearranged the appointment. Jack is at work today but he promised to leave on his lunch break to come and pick me up and come to the appointment with me. I'm now standing in the kitchen staring at the clock that reads 12:45. I sigh impatiently and check my phone for any messages. Jack was meant to be here fifteen minutes ago. He's late. If I don't leave in the next five minutes, I'll be late.

I try calling him but he doesn't pick up. So I call the office. No one answers. I wait for those five minutes hoping he'd walk through the door apologising while rushing me from the house. But it doesn't happen so I grab my own car keys and leave the house. I manage to make it to the hospital just in time for the nurse to call out my name.

"Hi Meredith. I'm Louise. How are you feeling today?" She's a pretty woman in her late twenty's with light brown hair braided down her back and soft brown eyes.

"Hi. I'm doing OK thank you. Just a little tired." I smile to hide the disappointment that fills me. I really wanted Jack with me today. Despite everything, I need his support.

She leads me into a large room that's very clean and bright. The bed and ultrasound machine is already set up and a gown is folded and sitting at the end of the bed. Louise hands it over to me smiling.

"Tired is normal. It's a lot of work carrying a baby. Here's your gown, you can change in here while I get the doctor for you."

"Thank you." She leaves and I quickly change, folding my clothes up and placing them on a nearby chair.

While waiting for the doctor, I walk around the room and study all the pictures on the wall. There's one that shows each stage of pregnancy and how the baby grows more and more. Another is more of a facts sheet that tells you about symptoms you can experience, healthy foods to eat, what not to eat and things like that. There's even a model of the uterus with a baby inside that you can dismantle and study.

A knock at the door has me hurrying towards the bed. I sit down just as the doctor walks in.

"I apologise for keeping you waiting. You must be Miss Brooks." I smile and nod.

"I'm Dr Avery. I'll be your doctor throughout your pregnancy so anything you're concerned about or you just need to talk then I'm your girl." She smiles brightly and it makes me feel a little better about being here alone.

Dr Avery is much like the nurse that was here a few minutes ago, a beautiful brunette but with lovely blue eyes. She's a little older though but still beautiful.

She goes through some routine checks like my weight and blood pressure, then she asks me about any symptoms I've been having before starting the ultrasound. I lay with my heart pounding in my chest as she moves the wand around my slightly swollen belly. She presses a few buttons on the machine and the most amazing sound fills the room.

"That is your baby's heartbeat." Dr Avery says smiling softly at me.

I can't speak. I lay there speechless as the sound fills my ears. My throat tightens and the tears well up in my eyes. I laugh as the tears spill down my cheeks. It's silly to cry but it's such an amazing sound to hear.

"I'm sorry."

"Amazing isn't it?" Dr Avery replies. She doesn't even acknowledge me crying, she's just so nice about it all.

"Yeah, it is. Is everything OK?" I ask looking over at the screen.

"Everything is perfect. Your baby is healthy and growing well." She tells me.

She shows me the little flutter on the screen that's the baby's heartbeat plus a few little details of the baby that are beginning to show. I just watch in awe, I don't even think of Jack. I'm too wrapped up in my baby. Once it's all finished, Dr Avery leaves me to get changed while she prints off some photos for me. I finish changing and walk out to reception where she's waiting for me.

"Here's your photos. If you need anything, just call." She says as she hands me a white envelope.

"Thank you, Dr Avery." She wishes me well and I head home.

When I pull up to the driveway, I turn off the car and just sit for a moment. Taking one of the photos from the envelope, I trace the shape of the baby with my finger smiling at the feeling I get. It's pure love. I don't care if I'm too young or dislike the father, this precious little baby is mine and I love him or her more than anything. It's a strange feeling to love someone who isn't even in the world yet, someone I don't even know yet but it's wonderful.

I finally climb out of the car and let myself into the house. Dropping my keys on the table by the door, I move towards the kitchen and freeze in the doorway at the sound of voices. Seeing them both sitting there chatting fills me with anger. I can actually feel a rush of pure rage fill my stomach. I drop my bag to the floor causing them both to look up at me.

"Meredith baby, where have you been?" Jack asks me. He's completely oblivious to how I'm feeling right in this moment and all I want to do is throw something at his head.

"Where have I been? Where the hell have you been?! I waited for you for nearly half an hour! I called your mobile, I rang the office, I was calling you and you didn't answer me!" I scream at him.

Who cares that his stupidly gorgeous guest is here again, once again witnessing us arguing. I want answers. I want them now. He better have a damn good explanation for not being there today.

Jack has an expression of complete confusion which just angers me more. I crouch down and rummage through my bag to find the envelope. Taking out a photo, I slap it down on the table in front of him seething.

"Where were you?" I ask again.

He looks down at the scan photo and almost instantly I see it click in his eyes.

"Oh baby, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot it was today." I step away from him as he stands up to reach for me.

"What was so important that you had to miss the first scan of our baby?" I ask quietly.

He glances over at his guest and then back at me. I can see the guilt in his eyes. But there's something else. Fear maybe? Hesitation? Whatever he's about to say, I know I'm not going to like. He knows it also. He tries reaching for me again but I slap his hand away.

"Tell me!" Jack sighs and reaches over to the table and picks up some papers.

He stares at me for a minute holding the papers close to his chest.

"What did the doctor say? Is everything OK?" I narrow my eyes at him.

"Don't change the subject. Give me the damn papers."

"Meredith... Just stay calm alright, we talked about this before and I told you that it was my decision." Jack once again looks over at his guest so I take the chance to snatch the papers from him.

I scan over the first page, my stomach knots up with dread as a few words stick out.

New ownership. Contract. Final agreement. Eliot Hunt.

I flick through the pages with urgency, half of them fall to the floor as I scan for the one thing that would make this final. My heart sinks as I find two signatures at the end of the agreement. Jack's and Eliot's.

He sold my house.

[ Hey everyone! I just want to apologise for taking so long to update, I said it would only be a few days but it's been a while so I'm very sorry! I hope you enjoy, let me know what you think :) ]
