[The Present]
I was running, liberal doses of air streaming through my lungs with a burning sensation as tears stung in my eyes.
I could've done something.
I should've done something.
I continued on, gasping for breath as I left the life I once had behind me as I ran down the deserted streets. All the memories, the laughter, the pain, the darkness, the company, the people, my home. It was all gone. The good and the bad.
My imposing figure disappeared into the forest. I had to keep running. I couldn't stop. If I chose to stop, I chose to give up.
And I wasn't going to give up, no, not this soon. I was going to continue living, for them. For my family, for the friends that died and slipped away from this world in my very arms. For my little brother fighting to live back at camp. I was going to live for them, breathe for them, all that I am, all of my life goes to them, I am going to live for their sake.
I'm going to survive.
