I couldn't stop thinking about her...

It was almost like a disease that spilt over my entire mind, causing me to undo all the thoughts taking over. I was so close to kissing Evelyn. The warmth of her breath against my lips continued to haunt me as i thought about them pressing into mine. Curse that stupid ride interrupting the moment.

Since then, my father had practically home bounded me for a whole month because i was out of line for leaving the dinner he had organised for us to get to know eachother. Well, i did feel bad, but at the same time i was thankful because i got to know Evelyn even more.

As of now, i was sitting on my rooftop, right outside of my room, listening to music as the sun shined down onto my pale skin. It felt like ages since i had followed this routine of mine and since i wasn't allowed out of the house, i was bored as hell.

The shades i wore sat comfortably above my nose as i closed my eyes and listened to 'Words don't come so easily' by Lower Than Atlantis blasting through my earphones. The rooftop was like a little balcony outside of my room with fairy lights cascading around my window frame. It was pretty at night time when i would read out here under the glare of the moon.

In front of me was a tall tree on the front porch and the road ahead leading left or right with a white picket fence around the house. It was a cute area to live in with children riding their bikes with their parents chasing after them and people walking all kinds of dogs. Even those ones you fit in your little bags.

Since i was technically grounded, i decided to spend my day on the roof, perhaps i'll catch a suntan or something? I didn't really tan much as people will notice from my pale skin. However i still had a nice skin tone, as many have previously told me.

Ok...now i sound completely stuck up. But i promise you i am not. I still have insecurities, but i wish to be positive, considering I'm still alive and well.

Then all i could think about as i sat here daydreaming, was the day my mother died.

I was sat in the hospital next to her as she slept, just like she always did right before she died. She had this painful look written across her face that night. Something told me she was ready to leave us, yet i didn't say goodbye because i was still in denial about it all.

I remember asking her to stay and my father would just put his head down, knowing how ridiculous i probably sounded asking someone thats dying to not die.

And when the machine finally announced she was gone, i just left the room silently and ran all the way home, tears pouring down my face as the wind attacked my eyes, making them colder.

I entered my mothers room when i got home and before i knew it, i was waking up to my father shaking my sleeping body.

I haven't really seen him this happy since.

"Hey you, up there on the roof!" I heard from bellow. Now confused, i opened my eyes and looked over the roof and saw those beautiful emerald eyes staring back at me.

"Hey! What are you doing here?" I shouted down to Evelyn. I took one of my earphones out as she came a little closer.

She laughed at me as i sat with my legs crossed gazing down at her. She wore a summer dress that was white. It fit her curvy body beautifully and was wavy at the bottom. Her hair was down again in its wavy style.

"I heard you're on house arrest! I thought id come entertain the prisoner?" Evelyn joked.

She was stood on the pathway leading to our front door. Her smile melted my heart and yet i still couldn't stop thinking about those lips.

"How do you know where i live?" I asked.

After i had dropped Evelyn off at her house and returned home, my father was waiting on the door step for me. His phone was laying within his lap as he stared at me. I stopped halfway up the path as i realised he was sitting there watching me.

I felt bad when i saw the disappointment on his face, but i guess i was used to seeing him look at me like that.

He asked me where i had been and i told him i had forced Evelyn to come with me to the fair and that she didn't really want to go. I took all the blame. It was worth it.

Evelyn shrugged her shoulders.

"I guessed" she said smirking away. I shook my head and started to stand up, holding onto the window frame so i wouldn't trip and fall.

Evelyn had this panicked look, but i had this all under control.

"Stay there, I'm coming down!"

After jumping through my window i went straight to the mirror and looked at myself. My hair was a little wavy too and had a light brown at the bottom. I took the glasses off and smiled into my mirror. You can do this!

I walked down the stairs and took a deep breath before i opened the door. There she was, standing there with her back against the side of the wall, staring right at me with this grin.

"About time, Romeo!" She winked. I laughed at her facial expressions and let her in. For someone who barely knew me, she seemed like she was comfortable around me which was extremely nice.

"Welcome to my crib! We have the living room with the flat screen tv, suitable for hot dates and cosy nights in." I exaggerated, making hand gestures like some tv host.
"Then we have the dining area..."

Evelyn couldn't stop laughing as i gave her a quick tour of the downstairs areas. She kept looking around as i spoke, but i just kept my eyes on her as i pointed towards each room.

"Perfect for stuffing your face when you're hungry and entertaining arguments around the table!"

"Ok ok" evelyn mumbled, trying to stop herself from giggling.

"What else do you want to see?" I asked.

The room fell silent as she gazed at me, it felt like being at the fair all over again.

"Your bedroom?" She said.

"W-what?" I stuttered, feeling my cheeks grow red at the thought of us being in my room. Not to mention the fact that it sounded wrong in so many ways.

How was i supposed to be in my room with her without wanting to kiss her. That was impossible...

"Show me your room?" She asked again. I noticed her cheeks had also become a little red. She was beyond cute.

"Ok"

I walked past Evelyn and heard her footsteps following me up the stairs. I felt the palms of my hands sweat a little and my heart race as we got nearer to my room. At this point i was just thankful that i had been so bored this morning that i had cleaned my room.

Evelyn stopped behind me as i reached my bedroom door. Opening it, i let her inside and waited for a reaction, any type of reaction.

You see, the thing was that my room presented things i never really told people. Things that revealed my true personality that i didn't want people to see otherwise.

Now here i am with some girl I've known two days and she probably now knows more than anyone ever has, just by looking at my room.
Around my room were books and paintings my mother did. She was an artist in her spare time.

Next to my window was a computer desk where i completed my coursework for college and many other things. And of course i had tones of nerdy things on my shelves above my bed such as harry potter wands and marvel figurines.

Evelyn smirked when she noticed my film collection stacked next to my tv that was facing my bed. My room was huge filled with a king sized bed and a computer area for when i played games.

I was typically a huge nerd in secret...
Which no one really knew.

"Wow, i have to say Dover, pretty impressive." She spoke, walking around the spaces of my room as she hovered her fingers over my films.

Wait? Why does everybody keep using my last name.

"T-thanks" i said shyly. I usually had some sort of confidence that would allow me to flirt with women, yet with her it seemed impossible to even speak.

"I love this film!" She shouted excitedly as she grabbed the film from its place and shoved it near my face. Evelyn seemed like a little kid sometimes it was adorable to watch.

"You know you have to work on that!" I heard. Evelyn walked over to one of the paintings near my bed and smiled as i came out of the love rush i was in.

"Work on what?" I asked confused.

"Saying things in your head rather than out loud. But I'm very flattered that you think I'm adorable!" She smirked and looked at the painting again, still gripping the dvd in her hand.

I cant believe i said that out loud. One day that is going to get me into trouble.

"These are beautiful! Wow you're seriously talented!" She exclaimed.

I smiled gently and sat down on the bed and watched her.

"Actually, they're my mothers artwork. She painted them before she..." I trailed off, not wanting to remember.

"Before she what?" She asked, taking a seat next to me on the bed. I pressed my lips together as i tried not to let the tears come. Ive never really cried in front of anyone before. I wasn't about to now.

"Lets watch the film!" I said, trying to deflate the awkward situation as Evelyn frowned. She probably knew i was hiding something, I'm surprised her mother hadn't told her yet.

"Dibs on the bed" she aruged. I smiled as she jumped onto her stomach on the bed with her legs high in the air behind her and smiled at me. Im glad she didn't ask any questions.

"I didn't think you were a horror kind of girl?" I said as i sat against the bed on the floor after i put the film into the player. Evelyn played with my hair as i lent back. Im sure she was doing it unknowingly as she stared into nothing and smiled to herself.

"Are you kidding i love horror!"

"Yeah but this film? Not many people like the shinning?" I said as i enjoyed her fingers running through my hair.

"Well i guess theres a lot you need to learn about me!" She said.

Halfway through the movie i had gotten onto the bed after feeling a little uncomfortable on the floor and grabbed one of my pillows. I had to admit that although i liked horrors i still got scared like a little kid.

"Oh my god" whispered Evelyn as she clung to her pillow tightly as the two girls stood in the hallway on the film.

I felt my hand go warm as i looked down and noticed she was holding my hand as she watched the tv. I could smell the blueberry smell coming from her soft hair as we both lay on our stomach next to each other.

I squeezed her hand slightly as the music played, somewhat like finger nails scratching a chalk board it was that intense.

When i thought it was over, i released the grip i had on Evelyn's hand and noticed she was staring at me. I turned to look too as she smiled and bit her lip.

"You're cute when you're scared!" I blushed hard and looked away from her towards the tv. I did that when i needed a distraction, something that could help my mind not focus on her lips.

"Im not scared!" I lied. She grabbed my cheek and made me look directly into her eyes.

"Hm are you nervous?" She whispered as she rubbed my cheek with her thumb. The dimples in my cheek deepened as did my smile when i felt my heart race once again.

I haven't felt this way before about anybody.

"A little" i admitted.

"Why are you nervous?"

"I guess I've never really hung out with anyone before, besides my best friend Wes of course. Its strange to me. It feels like I've known you my whole life."
I nodded to myself as her head titled and came forward towards me. I got ready to kiss her until she destroyed the thoughts running through my head about finally kissing her.

"Well maybe we can hang out more often. It'll be nice to get to know you. Heck, I've never had a best friend before, theres always a space going" She said as she pulled away and sat up on the bed.

Wait what?

"Best friend?" I asked confused.

"Yeah! Well considering our parents are together now, we should get to know each other!"

Crap! I totally forgot my father was dating her mother. My heart sank as i realised what she had said. She wanted to be my best friend?

I felt betrayed. A minute ago she was calling me cute and now she wanted to be just friends?

And here i was thinking she wanted to kiss me...

"Im home!" I heard from downstairs as the room fell silent again. "Ive got company" my father said.

I jumped off of my bed and walked towards the stairs as Evelyn followed me. I was still in a confused daze as i looked down the stairs and saw my father and Evelyn's mother Faye.

"Oh Evelyn. Didn't realise you were here! Well then, perhaps we should all settle down and have dinner together!" He smiled as he carried two bags of groceries in his hands. Faye held onto his arm as he smiled towards both of us.

"Yes lets eat dinner. No one can run away this time though"Joked Faye. My father laughed and they both headed towards the kitchen.

Thats when it finally hit me.

Evelyn and i were possible future step sisters. This couldn't be happening!

"Come on I'm starving" said evelyn as she ran down the stairs.

I waited until she was gone before i ran back into my room and stared into the mirror with this frightened look on my face.

"Im falling for my possible future step sister."

What am i going to do?
