BANG!
'This is it... it's all over...' I thought. 'Why don't I feel pain?'
I opened my eyes, which I hadn't even realized that I'd closed. I slowly looked around- only to spot Aizawa and Mogi dragging Matsuda away from me. I felt a small pain in my ear and looked to the side- the bullet had landed right next to my head.
"Matsuda! What are you doing!" I heard Aizawa yelling.
"He deserves to die! He deserves to die and pay for all the lives he's taken!" Matsuda screamed.
Just by taking one look at the man's eyes you could he was desperate- for what, I don't know.
I looked over at Mikami, who was just standing there and staring with shocked eyes like the idiot he is. "Mikami, you idiot! Don't just stand there, do something!" I hollered, my voice slightly raspy.
By now, the pain had settled in and was starting to take over. But I wasn't ready to lose without putting up a fight.
Mikami looked confused for a moment, then seemed to have remembered the pen in his hand. Seemingly, without giving a second thought, he took the pen and stabbed it into his heart, blood gushing out from his chest. Immediately, everybody except Near ran to Mikami's side, trying to stabilize him. It was too late though, it had been too late the moment he had stabbed himself.
'Perfect,' I thought, pushing myself up painfully. 'Now, I just have to run.'
It only took a few a seconds to balance myself, and in less than a second I was hobbling/running for the door of the warehouse. I yanked it open with my good arm, then ran outside.
"He's getting away!" I heard someone yell behind me, and then heard Near's voice most likely answering the first one. But Near's voice was too quiet, making his words indecipherable.
I clutched my right shoulder, and hobbled down the familiar sidewalk. It was the path that I took to go home everyday when I was in high school...
Looking around, I noticed that the path looked much like it did the day this all started, the day I picked up the Death Note...
There was even the same the sunset in the background. I felt tears start rolling down my eyes as I walked into a different warehouse, this one seemingly much smaller than the first. I stumbled up onto a small stairway, laying my sore body across it. I felt the stair corners jabbing into my back, but the pain from those were nothing compared to the gunshot wounds.
My breathing was ragged, each breathe taking a large amount of energy from me. 'This is it...' I thought. 'This is where I'm going to die.'
I looked down towards my feet, and saw...
Him, standing there, his figure slightly faded.
What was L doing, standing there? He looked exactly like he did the day he died, except now his bangs covered his eye. But... He's supposed to be dead...
I didn't care if I was talking to a ghost or a human or the devil, I spoke my last words anyway. "L...I-I love... I love y-you L-Lawliet," I managed to gasp out, as a searing pain tore through my chest. I felt my heart slowing, saw my world fading...
Then death. I felt death grasp me, pulling me into its open, welcoming arms.

I woke up, or, more like I thought I woke up. I opened my heavy eyelids, and was immediately met with a bright light. I brought my hand up quickly to shield my eyes, then realized something...
Nothing hurt. I felt completely fine.
"Light-kun? Are you alright?" A familiar voice called.
'No...'
"L?" I called out, desperate to hear his voice. I looked around, finding myself in trapped in a dark world.
"Yes, Light-kun, I'm here," His voice sounded again.
I looked back towards the light and unshielded my eyes when I found that the light was dimmer now. I was shocked at the sight I was met with- there, standing in full form, stood L with two bright, pure white wings protruding from his back. L was an angel... Like he was supposed to be.
"L..." I immediately picked myself up off the floor, standing and taking in the sight before me.
He held out his arms and took me into a welcoming embrace, quietly whispering into my ear, "It's been a while, hasn't it, Light-kun?"
I nodded against his shoulder, tears slowly escaping my eyes. He held me tighter.
"Tell me, Light-kun, why have you doomed yourself to this place? Why have you doomed yourself to an eternity of nothingness?" He asked, still holding me.
"I... I wanted to-" I started, but he cut me off.
"You wanted to create a better world, and thought that the only way to do it was with the Death Note? Was by giving away your own soul?" He finished for me.
I nodded once again.
"Silly," He laughed. "Has it been lonely?" He asked softly, now gently stroking my hair.
"More than words could ever explain," I responded, gripping onto the fabric of his shirt.
"I thought it would be... It's been lonely for me too, Light-kun. I've missed you, love," He whispered, pulling away a little to look at my face. He wiped away a small tear, then leaned forward and captured my lips in his own.
It was pure bliss. Even in death, our love was everlasting. I closed my eyes, and kissed him back, enjoying every moment. I was confused, though, when he pulled away.
I looked at him questioningly, but then noticed that he was fading...
"L?" I whimpered, not wanting him to go.
"Shh, it'll be okay, Light-kun," He promised, as his figure faded even more.
"I love you, forever and always, maybe in some other life we'll meet again," He whispered, giving a small wink.
In a bright flash, he was gone, gone to the heaven that he so deserved.
While at the same moment, I fell to my knees in this world of darkness. It took a moment before the situation finally registered itself in my head.
L was gone, for the second time. I was dead. L would be heaven, while I was doomed to nothingness. I could never see him again, not in person, not in pictures, not in anything... And he probably couldn't see me either.
We were both separated, again.
"I love you too, forever and always, L-san... forever and a-always," I choked out into the darkness, tears spilling down my cheeks.
"Someone call a doctor, I need someone to fix my broken heart. Someone call a doctor, I need someone to revive our love..."

Yo, I think L was hinting at something when he said "Maybe in some other life we'll meet again." Hehe... I wonder what he meant by that?
