By the time I had finished sweeping, it was already night. I threw the broom
into the broom cupboard and ran to the dining hall. I saw Amy waving at me
on my right. She had saved me a place beside her. After loading my plate
with food, I came and sat beside her. She smiled. "How's your cleaning?" I
shook my head. "Terrible. My arms ached. I wish there's a holiday for us. "
Amy winked at me. " Theres no holiday. Only more work! We're the maids,
remember?" I sighed and shoved a forkful of meat into my mouth.
Suddenly I felt a sharp poke on my hips. I gasped. " Look!" Amy hissed. I
glared at her and turned to look. A boy slightly older than us were walking
along the corridor with a girl. The hall were soon filled with whispers. I could
make out some words from the whispering. " Prince Darren is here!" "He's
gorgeous!" "I can't wait to see him in person." Amy bit her lip. She looked
quite sacred. " Hey, what's wrong?" She grabbed my arm and took a deep
breath. " I am afraid the prince will feed from one of us jow that he is awake! I
don't want to die yet!" I patted her hand. It felt cold and clammy. " What do
you mean he is awake?" "Well, he has put himself to sleep during the war
which many people died. They said it was for his safety. Since they put him
to sleep, he did not wake. Not even calling help. When we asked our
goddess, she said he will wake but not now. So after five hundred years had
passed, he woke and I suspect he just woke up from a deep sleep." I
clamped a hand on my mouth. "Gosh, that was...." Amy smiled. She was
feeling a whole lot better now. The whisperings had ceased.
After dinner, some of us had to wash the dishes but not me and Amy. We
hang out in my room, talking about our favourite hobbies and places. When it
is already nine, Amy said goodnight and went to her own room. I brushed my
teeth and changed into a pink night gown. I climbed into bed and set my
alarm to seven because we have to be there by eight.

Taylor came to visit me tonight. She seemed to be happy about my
awakening. She came and sat on my bed. "Darren, its good to see you wake
from a nightmare." I shook my head. "No. It wasn't a nightmare. I started
having good dreams since you put a spell on me. I hated leaving my
dreams." Taylor sighed. She wrapped her fingers round her curls and began
pulling it. " Don't pull your hair like that. It will ruin your scalp!" I said, pulling
her fingers off her hair. "Darren...I have something to ask you." "What is it?"
She bit her lip and looked at me. "Do you love me?" My heart started beating
twice as fast. Oh, why would she ask this question again? The last time she
asked me, I said no. So now what should I say? Suddenly I realised that I
had hesitated too long. She looked away and sighed. "No, don't say
anything. Its fine!" She got up quickly, bowed and left the room. I had no time
to stop her. I don't want to see her feeling so down. All I know is, I had made
the wrong choice of answer.
The next morning, I had to go to a meeting which is held personally for the
royalties. The meeting lasted for three hours. When I got out, my whole body
feel numb. I had been sitting too long. It was already one in the afternoon. I
had lunch with Rayce. Then took history lessons which bored me like hell.
When the lesson ended, I went into the library to look for books. Suddenly I
saw two girls laughing. They stopped laughing when they saw me walking
towards them. "What are you two girls doing?" One girl clutched at her
friend's hand. Her friend lifted her head and stared at me. " We were looking
at the books. We never got the chance before." I smiled. "What is your
name?" "Robin and this is my friend, Amy. Whats your name then?" I
extended my hand. "Darren. Nice meeting you." Robin smiled and took my
hand. I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was so beautiful but I don't have
any feelings for her. Just admiration. The other girl was pretty but very plain.
Her hair was tied back in a ponytail. Meanwhile Robin had her hair tumbling
over her shoulders. " Well, would the both of you care to take a sit with me?" I
gestured to the armchairs beside the window. Amy smiled. "We would love
to." I led them towards the armchair and laid some books on the table.
"These are for you." Amy took a book and began to read. "Hey! Its my
favourite book. How do you know I like this?" I smiled. "Glad you like it. I just
guessed. Maybe you like this book so I took it for you." Amy gave me the
most charming smile. Robin was still looking at me with curiosity. I knelt
down and took her hands. "What makes you so suspicious of me, Robin?"
Robin looked at her hands and blushed. I smiled and put her hands on my
lips. Her blush deepens. "My fair maiden. Your blush is as red as a rose." I
laughed and went away.
( Robin )
Darren kissed my hand! I couldn't believe it. Amy laughed. "Wow, lucky thing!
You got a kiss from the prince!" My heart stopped beating. " What? A prince!"
"Yes. You are lucky to have a kiss from the prince. You are the only one that
got the prince's attention." I groaned. "Stop that." Amy chuckled. "Lets go to
my room. We'll play a game of snap." After playing snap for hours, I soon
realised that Amy is good in playing snap. She won almost all the time.
Finally we stopped playing and I went to my room. Tomorrow is a Monday. I
have to get up early to make breakfast. For the EVERYONE in the castle.
( Darren )
I have to work hard in suducing Robin. I could sense her distrust on me. I had
to charm her. So she'll be an easier target. Rayce was hanging out with a boy
in her room. I know what she's going to do so I left her alone. I went to the
library and began reading a book but my mind is not on the book. It was
about Robin. I found myself thinking about her sweet blood all night. So I
made my decisions to make her mine!
( Robin )
It was still dark when I woke up. I got dressed and went down to prepare
breakfast. A few maids were already in the kitchen. One of them told me to
make porridge. Four big pots of porridge. I lighted the stove and poured a
quarter of water into the pot. Then I threw in a whole sack of rice. I did the
same thing to the other three pots. Then I began making toast. Fanny, one of
the maids were preparing some roasted chicken. It is to be served to the
royals. "Watch the fire!" Pauline growled. I quickly turn off the fire for the first
pot. I had been staring at the chicken for too long. Suddenly I heard footsteps
behind me. "Working hard?" I jumped and turned around. My heart began
pumping very hard. Oh God. He is soo handsome. I found myself staring at
him. The rest of the maids bowed. He nodded at them and turned to look at
me. "I think your porridge is already overcooked." He said with a mocking
grin on his face. My heart twists with annoyance. How dare he mock me! I
turned the fire off for the rest of the pots. I eyed him suspiciously. He
shrugged and walked towards me. "Looks like you have finished your job.
Follow me. I want to show you something." I shook my head. "I still have
something else to do. Go on your own then." I could hear someone gasp
behind the prince. Darren gave me a cocky smile. " I'll just have someone
replace you then. Fanny! Would you please take over Robin's job?" He gave
a charming smile. Fanny blushed. "S-Sure." Darren smiled and pulled me out
of the kitchen. "Where are you taking me to?" Darren chuckled. "Wait and
see."
He continued pulling me down the corridor. Then he stopped in front of a
door. "Go on. Open it." He released my hand and stared at me. I placed my
hand on the knob and turned. The room was large and beautifully furnished. I
gasped at its beauty. It was meant to be for a queen. Not like a normal person
like me. A voice whispered in my ear. " Do you like it?" I gaped at Darren. " Is
it for....me?" He nods. " Yes. Specially made....for you." I could feel tears of
happiness in my eyes. "Why would you treat me with such kindness? I am
nobody special to you." Darren shook his head and wiped away a tear that
has fallen. "To me you are special."
