"Dr Rhodes" Maggie shouted, calling the attending doctor to the doors of the emergency room. She checked her watch, waiting for the patient to arrive and knowing she needed the best on this one.
"What's up Maggie?" Doctor Connor Rhodes asked her, he walked towards her; fixing his stethoscope as he walked.
"Female. 2 minutes out. Brutally beaten by two men. Internal injury's" Maggie said, after she spoke a sigh left her mouth. Maggie had met Emily a few times before and always regarded her as a lovely young women.
"Why me?" Asked Dr Rhodes, frustration in his voice at the growing amount of patients that he was caring for already during this busy shift. He wondered for a moment who could be this important that Maggie specifically wanted him to care for them.
"The patient is Emily Halstead. Will's sister" Maggie informed him, before anything else could be said Emily was wheeled into the Emergency room. A paramedic from Ambulance 91 was propped up onto the bed , preforming CPR as she was wheeled towards on of the bays. Dr Rhodes quickly jumped into action, shouting orders at the other doctors and nurses working around him. After two epi's Emily was back, breathing at a steady rate and it was all thanks to Dr Connor Rhodes.
Maggie took this time to call Will and inform him on what had happened. She pulled up his phone number on her iPhone 6 and quickly dialled the number. After two rings, Will answered with his usual 'hello'. Maggie could clearly hear the noise and commotion coming from Molly's through the phone.
"Will, I have something to tell you" Maggie said to him, taking a breath to brace herself for telling him the news. "Your sister has been brought into Med. She's okay, Connor Rhodes is with her right now" Maggie told him. As she finished telling him, she could clearly hear him shouting to Jay. Telling the oldest Halstead sibling that they needed to go.
"We're on our way" Will said, before hanging up the phone and dashing out of Molly's. Both of them trying to get to their sister as quickly as they could. Both of them, wanting to be there when their sister woke up.
Emily woke up a few hours in a lot of pain, the kind of pain that is so strong - there is no real way of describing it. And on top of this, she had a headache. It took her a moment to actually realise that she was lying in a hospital bed. Slowly, Emily pulled herself up into the sitting position - just wanting to get a better look of what was happening around her. At the end of her bed, slept both of her brothers. Will was sat leaning back in a rather uncomfortable looking chair - while Jay slept sitting on another chair, but his body was resting on Emily's bed. It was clear to anyone that looked closely at their faces, that they where worried about her. Even in their sleep they worried. Fighting through the pain, Emily stood herself up and wondered out of the room. With every step Emily had to fight not to scream out.
"Miss Halstead, you really should stay in your bed" Dr Connor Rhodes said to her. It was unknown to Emily who he was, since they had never been formally introduced to each other. She had just heard Will complain about him while they drank. Emily stumbled, but was saved when Connor reached out to her - steadying her in the process.
"At least take me to dinner first before you take me to be doctor" Emily joked, as she laughed there was a pain in her chest that almost crippled her. Connor took most of her weight, keeping her up steady. "But seriously, I'm bored" Emily told him. Connor sat Emily down on a near by chair, before walking over to a wheelchair stand and getting one for her. He helped her into the wheelchair, and finally Emily was able breath without the sharp pain in her chest. But at least this meant that she could roll about, and not have to be stuck in her room.
"There's some people here to see you" Connor informed her. "I can take you to see them if you want?" Connor asked Emily, instead of talking back to him - Emily just nodded. "I'm Connor Rhodes, by the way" He said, introducing himself formally to her. Holding out his hand for her to shake, something that she did happily.
"Emily Halstead" She said, introducing herself back to him. Dr Connor Rhodes wheeled Emily into the visitors waiting room, where she was greeted by all the members of Firehouse 51. Emily probably would have smiled about everyone being there to see her if she hadn't been in pain from all the punches to the jaw. "Hey everyone" Emily said, looking between everyone.
"How are you?" Gabby asked her, standing up and moving towards her new friend. "We where all worried about you" She said honestly.
"I'm good" Emily told her. In reality, there wasn't much more that Emily felt like she could say to them - and she was aware that somewhere in the hospital CPD would be waiting to take her statement. Especially since, it's not everyday that a person kills two people in their own home. But Emily didn't want to talk about the details with anyone from Firehouse 51, as she didn't want them to see her like that. The killer.
"Where are your brothers? I thought that they would be here with you" Matt asked, looking around for Jay and Will.
"They're sleeping in my room" Emily said laughing, just thinking of how her brothers looked. "They basically look how I feel" She said, wincing in pain as she laughed. Gabby looked at Emily in sympathy as she winced because of the pain of her three broken ribs. Before anything else could be said between anyone, Mane came over all of their radios announcing that they needed to respond to a fire close by.
"We will come back at the end of shift" Boden said to her, as the crew of firehouse 51 all got up and started to walk out of the waiting room. Just as Dawson walked past Emily, she reached out and grabbed onto her arm - causing Gabby to turn around.
"Dawson?" Emily asked "Can you do my a favour?" She continued, already knowing that Gabby would do any favour that she needed.
"Of course" She answered.
"Can you ask Antonio to come in with the Intelligence team please? I need to talk to them" Emily asked, she watched as Gabby nodded back to her - before walking away from Emily and running to the Ambulance. The moment she got into the ambulance, Gabby pulled out her phone and told her brother that Emily wanted to see him and the team. "Back to base please, Doc" Emily said, pointing in the direction that Connor had pushed her. As he started pushing the wheelchair, she could hear Connor laughing at her little joke.
"So, I would like you to talk to Dr Charles" Dr Rhodes said to Emily as they got closer to her room.
"Why?" Emily asked, not to sure who this Dr Charles was - and why she would want to talk to him at all.
"Dr Charles is head of psychology, and you've just killed two men" Connor said to her "I just want to make sure that your okay, psychologically" He stated as they arrived back at her room. Jay and Will where still in the same position they had been when Emily left for her wonder. Connor helped her back into her bed before leaving to check on his other patients. After a few minutes of sitting back in her bed, Emily started to become restless - and if she was honest, a little thirsty to. Since she didn't fancy getting back off her bed, she decided that the best option would be to wake up her brothers.
"Jay. Will" Emily said, trying to wake them up. "Will. Jay" She said again, only this time she got a little louder. When that didn't wake them up, Emily looked around her before spotting an orange on the small table beside her. In on movement, she was able to muster enough strength to throw the orange at Jay. To Emily's amusement, the orange hit him in the face. "Oh, good. Your awake" She said, a small smirk on her face as Jay woke up properly.
"How do you feel?" Jay asked his sister as he sat up in his seat.
m"I'm good, but I'm a little thirsty. Can you get me a drink?" Emily asked, she watched as her brother nodded at her and left to get them all a drink each. As Jay left the room, Will woke up and asked the same question Jay did a few moments ago. To this, Emily answered the same way. Telling him that she was good. "You look terrible" Emily said to her brother, noticing the look on his face that told her, he had a pain in his back from sleeping sitting up.
"Dr Halstead, I've come to speak with Emily for a moment - if that's okay" An older doctor said, walking into Emily's room. Will looked at this doctor for a moment before nodding, he got up from his seat and left the room. Leaving Emily alone with this new doctor.
"Emily, I'm doctor Charles. I just wanted to have a quick talk with you about what happened last night" Dr Charles started, making sure that with every word he said - he was watching her face to pick up on any emotions that where being hidden. "How are you feeling about the incident?"
"I know that I should feel bad about killing two people, but I don't. I can't make myself feel bad about it. But I know, that if I didn't take them out - they would kill my brothers. So I did what I had to do, and if I had to - I'd do it again" Emily said, watching as Dr Charles nodded as she spoke. "I'm an ex-FBI agent, and I was trained to protect people. There is nothing I wouldn't do to protect my family, so - I'm not going to apologise for what I did" Emily finished.
"Thank you Dr Charles, I appreciate the card. I understand that you are here to report on my mental health, but I would appreciate it if you keep what I have said to yourself" Emily said, looking at Dr Charles and watched as he nodded to her.
"Of course, but I do have to report to Dr Rhodes and give my professional opinion" Dr Charles said to Emily. She whispered back a small 'thank you' to him, as she watched him walking out of the hospital room. Just after Dr Charles left the room, Jay wondered back in with a glass of water and Will right behind him.
"Are you finished talking to Dr Charles?" Will asked Emily, who nodded back to her brother. It wasn't long until the Intelligence team arrived at the hospital, and it was Hank Voight that walked into Emily's room first. Wanting to know how she was feeling, and if she was doing okay. The two spoke for a while, after both Jay and Will left the hospital room - leaving Voight and Emily to talk to themselves.
The two spoke about what had happened that night. When Voight left Emily's room, he told her that he was going to find out who else was in on this - as she is family. And Voight did that. It took him a few days, but he finally found who had orchestrated the beating that Emily had been through.
