Nicole POV
I woke up this morning feeling kind of excited because its Monday and I get to go to school.
I know I may sound crazy but going to school is so much better than sitting in your bed all day is not as fun as it sounds.
After taking a shower I put this on and went to school with Hazel.

"Hey Nicole." Max said as he approached me with two other boys standing next to him.
"Hey Max. So are you going to introduce me to your friends or what?" I asked smiling.
"Oh yeah sorry. These are my two best friends Luke and Chad." He said pointing to them.
"Hi." They said in unison.
"Hey." I said waving.
"What happened to your leg?" Chad asked.
"I was tackled."
"You play football?"
"No but Ty does and when I went to hug him Mitchell decided to tackle me for some unknown reason."
"Wait wait wait. Did you just call Tyler Ty?"
"Yes..."
"He doesn't let anyone call him that. You must be special." Luke said.
"I guess I am. I gotta go guys I'll see you around." I said before walking away.
When I got to the table where the guys were I sat down exhausted and laid my head on Ty's shoulder as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"You okay?" He asked.
"It's just that everything is so hard to do when you have crutches and it takes forever to get anywhere." I said as the bell rang.
I rolled my eyes at the bell and stood up.
"In sorry this happened to you Nicole. I wish it was me." Tyler said.
"Thanks." I said as we walked into the classroom. I sat down in my seat and prepared for the lesson.
45 minutes later the bell rang and I stood up only to fall over since someone decided to stick their foot out.
I fell forward but right when I started falling forward someone caught me in their arms. I assumed it was Ty but it wasn't. Instead it was a guy with light brown eyes and hair that matched it.
I quickly recognized him as a guy in a few of my classes, Shane.
"Thanks." I said standing up straight.
"No problem." He said handing me my crutches. "Some people need to learn how to leave other people alone."
"I agree." I said. "See you around."
"Bye Nicole." He said causing me to stop and turn around.
"How did you know that I was Nicole?" I asked as he now walked alongside me.
"Well for starters you still have the same long brown hair. Also, your eyes are still as blue as the Pacific Ocean."
"Wow. Most people don't even know I'm still me without being told."
"Well I think that glasses and braces shouldn't define the beauty of someone. You should look past it."
"That is by far one of the sweetest things someone has ever said to me."
"Hey what're you doing?" Tyler asked totally oblivious to the person standing on the other side of me.
"Talking to Shane."
"Shane?"
"Yes Shane. The guy on the other side of me."
"Why are you talking to him?"
"Because I have a mouth to speak."
"I'm gonna go. I'll see you later Nicole." Shane said before walking off.
"What was that about?" I asked Tyler.
"Nothing."
"Tyler that was not 'nothing'."
"I said it was nothing just leave it alone. Please."
"Fine." I surrendered as we took out seats.
**lunchtime**
I was sitting at the table with Tyler, Mason, Caleb, Noah, Austin, and Julian and we were just talking until Shane walked up to me.
"Hey." I said. "What's up?"
"Ms. Fields said I needed a tutor so she suggested you and I was wondering if you were up to doing it."
"Uhh... Yeah sure."
"Awesome. I'll just need your number then." He said and I gave it to him. "Thanks. See you later."
"Okay." I said and he walked away.
"Why would you say yes?" Tyler hissed.
"Because he asked nicely? Is there a problem with me tutoring him?" I asked confusedly.
"No. It's nothing."
"Ty obviously it's something."
"It's nothing."
"Tyler what is it?"
"I said it was nothing."
I scoffed and stood up from the table.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"To sit with Max, Luke, and Chad. At they won't lie and hide things from me." I said before walking over to the table where the three friends were sitting. "Hey guys can I sit here?"
"Sure." They said in unison causing me to smile. "So do you guys have any siblings?" I asked trying to start a conversation.
"Yes. Austin is my big brother." Chad said.
"Really?"
"Yep. And you already know Mason is my big brother." Max said.
"Last but not least my brother is a complete douche bag but all the girls seem to love him." Luke said.
"Who is he?"
"Ashton Kuch." He said and I shivered at those two words. "Please don't tell me you're one of those girls."
"Eeww no. Why would I like someone who bullied me for years?"
"He bullied you?" Luke asked.
"He did it like it was his life purpose. He's such a jerk."
"Tell me about it." They said together again.
"You guys are like triplets you say everything at the same time. It's cute."
"I heard cute. Who's talking about me?" Ashton asked cockily before taking the seat beside me. "Hey Luke who is your hot friend here?"
"Why don't you ask her?" Luke retorted.
"Do you have a name sweetheart?" He asked as I forced myself to look at him.
"I do but you already gave me a few."
"What are you talking about?"
"Pepperoni face, four eyes, brace face, and nerd. Do any of those names ring a bell?"
"I don't understand."
"Nicole. Nicole Carter." I said and he looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"That was you?" He asked and I nodded. "How about I make it up to you by letting you be my girlfriend?"
"First, I already have a boyfriend. And second, you could be the last guy on the planet and I still wouldn't date someone like you."
"Don't be like that babe." He said grabbing my hand before I snatched it away.
"Don't touch me!"
"You might want to go sit somewhere else Ash." Shane said when he arrived.
"And why is that Smith?"
"Because I'm pretty sure that Uncle Spencer won't be happy if you get suspended for harassment."
"Fine." Ashton huffed before getting up and walking away.
"Thanks." I said to Shane as the bell rang.
"No problem." He said before walking away.
I stood up from the table and then started down the hall. I saw Tyler walking with Mason so I shouted his name.
I know he heard me because Mason turned around and said something to him but he still didn't turn around.
I hurried into the classroom and took my seat which was next to Mason's.
"Do you know why Ty is ignoring me?" I asked Mason and he shook his head no without even glancing at me. "So you're ignoring me too?"
When he didn't answer I turned to Austin who was also in this class.
"Are you ignoring me too?" I asked him and he didn't answer. "What did I do?"
Still no answer.
**buzz buzz**
I pulled my phone out since the bell hasn't rang yet and read the message.
'The library is closed all week but luckily I have one in my house so we can do it there if that's okay with you. -Shane'
I replied with an 'okay' and he sent his address then I put my phone away.
At the end of class Tyler hurried out of the class and down the hall. I can almost swear he did it on purpose.
"Hey." Shane said walking beside me now. "Headed to gym?"
"Yeah."
"Cool. I'll walk with you." He replied and he did as he said.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" I asked him the question of the day.
"I have brothers."
"How many?"
"Six."
"Six?! How do you manage?"
"Most of us have our own rooms so that we're not always in each others faces."
"That's good."
"So how about you?"
"I only have one brother."
"How old are you?"
"Sixteen."
"How are you in 11th grade then?"
"I skipped third grade."
"That's awesome. Your parents must be proud."
"My parents are dead to me." I said not knowing why I just told him that.
"Oh."
"I'm sorry it's just that one day they just left my brother and I alone."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I kinda want to talk about something else now." I said sheepishly.
"Favorite bands?"
"Paramore and Panic! At the Disco."
"Those are mine too!"
"Great music taste." I said as we approached the locker room.
"You too. See you inside." He said before walking inside the boys room.
I walked straight into the gym since I didn't have to change because of my leg. I sat down in the bleachers and waited.
Shane was one of the firsts out so he sat next to me and then I saw Tyler. I told Shane I'd be right back and scooted over to Tyler.
"Why aren't you talking to me?" I asked him.
Silence.
"Ty? Did I do something wrong?"
Silence.
"If this is a joke or something please stop it because you're worrying me."
Silence.
"Do you not want to be with me anymore? Is that it?"
Silence.
"Are you breaking up with me? Say something if you aren't. Anything."
Silence. A long, dreadful silence.
I feel the tears threatening to spill from my eyes as I move away from him.
What did I do to deserve this? Why is he even breaking up with me? Why now?
He knows what happened to my family and he knows that he was my only ounce of happiness. He knows that I am not in a mentally stable position to deal with something like this. Yet he did it anyway.
Why?
"Are you okay?" Shane asked concernedly.
"No."
"What happened between you and Tyler?"
"He broke up with me."
"What? Why?"
"I-I don't know. He wouldn't even talk to me."
"I'm so sorry Nicole." He said before the whistle blew, signaling that the teacher had arrived.
"Good evening students. As you know today is Monday so we will be playing dodgeball. Shane, Mason you two are team captains." He said and the both of them went up to where the teacher was standing.
When they finally picked the teams they all got into positions to start the game. When the whistle blew red balls were flying everywhere.
I didn't pay much attention to the game since I was too busy pitying myself for ever thinking that I could have someone care for me the way I cared for them.
When I looked up there was only two people left. Those two would be Shane and Tyler. They both have one ball in their hand then Tyler throws his and missed.
Finally Shane throws the ball at Tyler's stomach so hard that he stumbles back a few steps.
"Jerk!" Shane yells at him before exiting the gym angrily.
When the bell rings I get up and walk out of the gym into the hallway. I keep walking until I make it to my last class of the day.
I take my seat and wipe away a tear that had fallen down my cheek. I put my head down on my desk as I wait for the bell to ring.
Slowly but surely the tears continues to stream down my face. Thank god for waterproof mascara.
When the bell rings I lift my head then wipe the tears away and let my hair down to shield my face.
After a whole hour of scribbling notes the bell rings for the students to go home. That sounds like heaven right now. I just want to go home and curl up in a little ball and stay like that forever.
I get up from my seat and head out the door to find Hazel. I quickly find her and by the look on her face I know she knows there's something wrong with me. But she waits until we're in the car to ask the question.
"Are you okay?"
I shake my head no.
"What happened?"
"Tyler. He... He broke up with me."
"Why?"
"I-I don't know."
"He didn't even give you an explanation?"
"He didn't even talk to me."
"I'm so sorry Nicole."
"I think I'll be okay.."
"I hope you will. Now let's get you home."
When we get home I go upstairs and change into a pair of Coles pajama pants and a t-shirt. After I change I curl up in my blankets and cry.
I cry because Tyler left me. I cry because my parents left and I miss them so much. I cry because my mom and dad didn't even tell me they loved me before they abandoned us. I cry because of the bullying that I'd experienced. I cry because my best friend of all my life had left me. I cry for the starving kids around the world. And most of all I cry because I feel like I can never be happy again. I cry and cry and cry my little heart out.
I only stop because of the knock on my door. I mutter a 'come in' and the door opens.
"Hey." Someone says and I smile at the voice.
I turn to face him and his face drops to a concerned frown.
"What's wrong?"
"Tyler broke up with me." I try to keep my voice as steady as possible.
"I know I wanted this to happen and all but it isn't worth seeing you like this." Max said.
"I know." I said as another tear slid down my cheek.
He walked over to my bed and gave me a hug. I quickly responded by wrapping my arms around him and burying my face in his shoulder letting out more tears.
"You'll be okay." He said while rubbing my back.
"Why would he do this to me?" I sobbed.
"He's just being a jerk."
"I thought he cared about me."
"I'm sure he does."
"No he doesn't. I'm so stupid."
"Why would you say that?"
"Because I was dumb enough to think that he could actually like someone like me. I'm no match for Megan."
"You're right. You're not a match for Megan, you could beat her any day."
"Thanks Max."
"No problem."

Hazel POV
I'm going to kill him. Nicole has been crying in her bed all day and she hasn't eaten anything.
This morning I woke up and put on some jean shorts, vans, and a Paramore band tee. I walked over to Nicole's room and she opened the door right before I knocked.
She looked awful. Her eyes were red along with her nose but at least her hair was combed.
She had on a pair of old jeans and a hoodie along with a pair of old converse. Well not a pair...
"You ready to go?" I asked and she nodded.
When we got to school she got out and walked over to the table where Max was sitting. Meanwhile I walked over to where Tyler was sitting with all of his friends.
"What the fuck is your problem?!" I asked him angrily.
He didn't say anything he just gave me a stupid look which really pissed me off.
"Don't give me that dumb look Tyler. Why the hell would you break up with her? You know what she's going through!"
He opened his mouth to say something but then closed it.
"You guys are supposed to be her friends and you're supposed to be her boyfriend. You know about her parents and you know she's going through a rough patch but you made her feel worse about herself. And you better hope she starts eating soon because if she doesn't Cole is sure to come and kick your ass and this time I won't bother to stop him."
I gave them all a look filled with disgust and anger then walked away.
