Terrance
My eyes burned a hole in the back of Griffin’s head as he walked out the door. Who the hell did this guy think he was? He stood in here like he ran some stuff . Honestly, he needed to be brought all the way down.
I looked over at Daniela. The look on her face read guilt. She couldn’t even look me straight in my face. Why? I didn’t know. She still had Alaia in her arms but she eventually put her down.
“Go play in your room for a little bit while I talk to Terrance. When I’m done we can finish the movie. Okay?” she said to her before Laia ran off to her room.
When she was gone, I took a seat on the couch and sat back and watched as Daniea turned off the TV then took a seat on the other couch opposite of me. She sat there silently for a minute.
“What was that Daniela?”
“What do you mean?” she asked softly.
“The dude was in here parlaying like this was his house or something. What’s up with that? Y’all back together or something?”
“No. No. We are not back together.” She responded immediately while shaking her head.
“Then be real with me. What’s going on?” I asked.
“Nothing. Nothing is going on and nothing happened.”
I just looked at her for a minute before I shook my head and laughed bitterly.
“See, I didn’t even ask if anything happened so why do you feel the need to defend yourself? Why are you acting all guilty?”
She just looked down at her hands. I shook my head.
“I’m going to say this once, and once only Daniela: he broke your heart and I was the one there to help you put it back together. I’m not even sure if you’re over it but I have been waiting patiently for two years .Daniela Just because he decides he want to get in where he fit in again doesn’t mean you have to go along with it. That would be messed up.”
She just sat there silently.
“I’m going to leave you to think about that.” I said before I stood up. “Make a choice Daniela. I can only hope that you will make the right one.”
It was no secret that I was in love with Daniela. I’ve been in love with her for a long time. From the moment I met her, I wanted her. She was everything a man could ask for in a woman, or in a wife. So when Blake did what he did to her, although I hated seeing her hurt, it was my window of opportunity. In that moment, all I could do was be there for her but I have been in that same position for two years now. She is scared of committing to me and Blake was to blame for that and to be honest to myself I knew it was also because she wasn’t fully over him. I couldn’t say for sure that she was still in love with him but she definitely wasn’t over him. But I refused to wait anymore. I wasn’t going to allow him to step in and take what I’ve been building for two years now. I wasn’t having it.
“Tell Laia I’ll see her later.” I said before walked out the door and closed the door behind me.
Blake
I drove away from Daniela’s house and felt my anger starting to ease. I wasn’t going to let this irrelevant ass guy get me all riled up. I didn’t like his hands on Daniela or my daughter but he just didn’t know that his days with was numbered. I knew I was breaking her down and that I was only getting closer to getting my wife and my family back.
I wasn’t even going to worry about it. I was just going to let everything play out for itself. Call me cocky, but I trusted that Daniela would make the right decision.
I drove the rest of the way to my house pushing the situation out of my head. However, when I pulled up to the house, I felt my calm starting to disappear. Alexia was parked in the drive away. I sighed before I pulled up behind her car and parked.
I got out and walked up to her car. I looked inside and didn’t see her. She must have been in the house. Obviously she still had her copy of keys. I made a mental note to get those from her as I walked into the house.
When I walked in, I only heard shuffling coming from upstairs so I head that way. I walk into my room and see her pulling all of her stuff out of the closet. I just lean against the wall and watch her.
When she finally looks up and sees me, she jumps.
“What’s up?” I ask.
“Just getting the rest of my stuff.” She mumbles as she goes back into the closet. I just continue to stand there against the wall. It’s an awkward silence.
After a while, she finally finishes and comes out with a big duffle bag on her shoulder. She walks up to me and holds my keys out in front of my face. I grab them.
“So I guess this is it huh?” She asks.
“I guess so.” I respond. She nods and bites her lip.
“I got one question for you though.” She says as she looks at me. “What is it about her that made you choose her over me?”
I looked at her and saw the pain in her eyes. I never meant to hurt her to this extent but this is something that couldn’t be avoided.
“I don’t know how to answer that besides that I love her. My heart belongs to her and always has. That’s the woman I want to marry.” I answered honestly.
She nodded in understanding.
“Well, all I can do is wish you guys luck. I hope you make it work. Just know that I’m here if y’all don’t.” she said as took a few steps closer to me. I watched her as she slowly leaned forward and pressed her lips to mine.
“We could’ve been good together. Bye Blake.” She said as she stepped away.
“Bye Alexia.” I replied as I watched her walk away. That chapter of my life was officially closed.
Daniela
A few days later…
Laia was with Blake and I decided to not go into the shop today, which left me alone. I was sitting here by myself in my bedroom, which was my first mistake. Me being alone allowed my thought to be my own enemy. They always took over and took me to a place I didn’t want to go.
Confused wasn’t even the word. I was beyond that. My mind and heart was pulling me in two completely different directions. In all honesty, nothing seemed logical. I was ready to say forget both, Blake and Terrance, and keep it moving. But that was easier said than done.
Terrance has been here with me every step of the way since me and Blake broke up. He was especially there to help me get through the miscarriage. He helped me get back to being my normal self. Also, his patience was outstanding. What man do you know would wait for you to get your shit together for two years? Nobody would do anything like that. I owed him my commitment. I owed him something.
Blake on the other hand: the father of my child, the man who I once loved more than life itself, the man I thought was going to be husband, the man I once thought was the love of my life. No man has compared to the love I had with him. The connection I have with him doesn’t compare to the connection I have with anyone else. Our love was so pure and true. But when he betrayed my love, I lost all faith in him and us. Now he was here trying to win my heart back and I would be lying to myself if I didn’t say I wasn’t losing that battle.
My thoughts started going to how we were forever connected: Our baby girl. She is more than enough reason for us to make it work. She deserves to have both of her parents together. I even started thinking about the baby I never got the chance have.
I mentally kicked myself for taking my thoughts there. I didn’t want to go there but I couldn’t help it. I pulled my knees to my chest and dropped my head in my lap.
I wanted to tell Blake so bad but I was scared and I didn’t know how. I had been keeping this to myself and away from him way to long. He deserved to know. He needed to know.
I hated when I started thinking about this.
People had miscarriages all the time and I’m assuming that they got over it. So why I was I still hurting so bad after two years?
Blake It was just me and my baby girl today and we decided to go to the zoo like she asked a while back. I was walking around with her sitting on my shoulders looking at everything. We were enjoying ourselves for the most part without being stopped with somebody stopping us for an autograph or something. It was getting annoying after a while.
“Daddy, why are they taking pictures of us?” She asked.
“Because you’re so pretty.” I responded as I pulled her from shoulders and kissed her face. She giggled.
“How bout leave here and go get some ice cream before I take you back to mommy?” I asked.
She nodded excitedly.
“Alright, let’s get out of here.” I placed her back on the ground and we walked hand and hand towards the exit.
When we got to the car, I placed her in her seat in the back before I hopped in and drove off. Laia talked on and on about everything as we made our way to the ice cream shop. I laughed at her antics before I pulled up to the ice cream shop. We got out and walked inside.
I let her choose whatever she wanted before we sat down so she could eat it.
“Daddy I want to go swimming.” She said suddenly.
“You do?” I asked. She nodded.
“And I want mommy to come too.”
“Alright, let’s see if we can make that happen. As she continued to eat, I pulled out my phone and dialed Daniela’s number.
The phone rang and rang before she finally answered.
“Hello?”
“Your daughter wants you to go swimming with her.” I said.
“Today?” She asked.
“I believe so.” I responded.
“Well, tell her I can’t today but I promise we can go tomorrow when I come and get her.” She said. I frowned once I really listened to her voice. Something wasn’t right.
“What’s wrong Daniela.”
I hear her sigh.
“Nothing. I’m okay.” She replied.
She was lying. I knew it.
“Alright. Just call me tomorrow when you’re on your way.” I said before we hung up. I then turned to Laia. “Baby girl, we can’t go swimming today but we’ll go tomorrow but how about you go spend some time with Ashley today?”
She just nodded as she continued to eat her ice cream.
Today, I was going to find out what was wrong with Daniela. I wasn’t going to let it go this time. I refused to.
