Taryn's Pov
Being a nurse in an understaffed hospital can sometimes be unpredictable, especially with the hours. Sometimes you have to work more than you thought. Sometimes you need to work more because you need it. Either way having a regular schedule as a here is near to impossible. So it comes in handy to have a friend with an equal unpredictable schedule.
"Are you ready?" Sam asked jumping into my car.
"Are you?" I asked starting up the car.
"You better believe I am." She said happily.
"It has been way too long." I said driving off the lot.
"Don't I know it." She smiled.
Today Sam and I were going to my place to just hang out. We haven't seen each other outside of the hospital in about a month. So we made sure that we got out the same time and that we cleared out our over work time so we can just talk. I know it seems that all we do is talk on the job, but it's different when we aren't in the hospital.
We were having a great time basically acting like teenagers. We spent hours eating junk food, watching movies in the back ground as we just talked about the party in two days and everything else.
"Hey can I ask you something?" I asked her.
"Sure." She said.
"How do you know Louis? I mean, it seems like you guys knew each other for a long time from the way you two act." I said softly.
"Lou and I go way back. He was my older brother Josh's friend. Josh had his friend over all the time. Louis would always mess with me. He was pretty much a clown most of the time. I didn't see him once I went to nursing school. When I came back he was a policeman and I got a job at the hospital. We act basically the same as we did back in the day." She said with a laugh.
"Did you have like him?"
"Are you kidding Josh and his friends were the cream of the crop here? Everyone liked them." She said.
"Do you still?"
"Eh, kinda I guess." She said blushing a little.
"Wow I have never made you blush before." I said laughing.
"Shut up." She said giving me a shove. "So now I get to ask you something." She said evilly.
"I am going to really regret this." I groaned. "Go ahead."
"So how are things with you and Niall?"
"Thing are good." I said waiting for the real question.
"Why the hell aren't you two official yet?" She asked.
"And there it is." I mumbled to myself. "I don't know why, we just aren't." I said.
"Oh come on." She said. "It is so obvious you both want it."
"I really don't think I am ready." I confessed.
"What do you mean you aren't ready hon?" She asked scooting closer to me.
"I'm just not." I said looking at the drink in my hand.
"Taryn, your last relationship was a good year and a half ago."
"Robert and I were together for 6 years Sam. You don't just bounce back from that."
"But Niall is such a great guy to bounce to." She said encouragingly.
"I know, Sam. Trust me I know." I groaned.
KNOCK KNOCK
"I got it." I said getting up.
"Hey Taryn."
"Robert." The names slipped my lips but I didn't believe it.
"Taryn." Sam said showing up behind me.
"Sam this is Robert." I said looking at her.
"Oh." She said understanding. "You want me to leave?" She whispered.
"I'll call you later." I said. "Take my car." I added as she went to get her purse.
"Okay, bye Taryn, Robert." Sam said scurrying away.
"What are you doing here Robert?" I asked crossing my arms.
"I wanted to see you." He said.
"After a year and a half, really Robert?" I asked angrily.
"I've missed you so much Ryn." He said placing his hands on my shoulders.
"Really after all the crap, it takes you a year and half to realize that you need me?" I asked annoyed.
"Come on Taryn. We had a good thing going for us."
"Yea which you messed up, Rob. Don't go trying to guilt me. We both know what happened that night was not my fault. I warned you I told you that drinking that much was a bad idea. I warned you and you did it anyway. Me breaking up with you was not my fault." I said shrugging off his hands and poking his chest.
KNOCK KNOCK
I pushed past him and opened the door.
"Niall." I said.
"Hey Taryn." He said smiling. His eyes shift to Robert when he moved closer to me.
"Hey man, I'm Robert." Robert said extending his hand to Niall.
"Niall." Niall said stiffly not taking his hand. "Right." He looked at me. He looked so sad. "Right." He nodded to himself. "I guess I'll be leaving. Bye Taryn." He said leaving before I could say anything.
I watched quietly as he sped off my driveway and down the street.
"Robert get out of my house." I said quietly.
"What was that babe?" He asked placing his hands on my shoulders.
"Get your hands off of me and get the hell out of my house!" I said turning to him.
"Taryn." He said confused.
"Robert I swear if you don't leave right now I will call the police." I said pushing him out of the door. "Oh and if you ever feel the need to visit me again, I would highly suggest you ignore it." I said slamming the door.
