ch1. totally unexpected surpise
"OH MY GOD!.. would u please just stop jumping like an excited little puppy already!!.. i am trying to STUDY here!.." groaned my little sister glaring
"oh stop being such a drama mamma Shelly its my BIRTHDAY tomorrow just half and hour more to go.. i am allowed to act crazy today" i said sticking my toung at her while i continued jumping on the bed
"OH jeez woman could you at least try to keep it down!.. or just get out of this room if you really cannot contain your excitement!.. besides i really dont get whats the big deal you are loosing another year of your life!.." she said visibly annoyed
"hey i am gonna turn 17 this year!.. so i am NOT a WOMEN as yet!.. and i have all the reasons in the world to be happy i mean this year has turned out to be amazing for me and I AM AT THE PEEK OF MY TEENAGE YEARS... whoop whoop!.. and this is my room as well so you get out if it annoyes you that much " i said grinning at her still jumping
my sister Shelly is 5 years younger to me yet she is hell lot more mature than i can ever be.. but hey that doesn't mean she is always this bitchy she is usually too darn sweet and helping for me to handle!.. either way she loves me allot and would do anything to see me happy even if she knows she would probably get grounded for helping me out shes the butterfly fairy tale believer kinda person but on the other hand is really practical and always sees the negative side of the action before doing anything i on the other hand just do it and don't think at all which lands both of us in trouble don't get me wrong i love my little sister but sometimes she is just too much!.. and hey how can u be a perfect sibling without fighting every once in a while eh?..
"yea right!.. 17 the perfect age for love eh?.." she winked at me grinning she did that on purpose she knew the "L" word annoyed the hell out of me!..
"bleh!.. shut up Shelly.. i am happy with my life its perfect right now i got tons of friends and a perfect family who needs love!?.."i said flicking my hairs out of my face. it's strange really i mean sometimes even i don't understand why i am so against love. it was just something that came naturally to me and my best friend AVA SHIZERBELL yep i mentioned her full name cause my silly bestie kinda likes it that way she's darn obsessed with her last name she says it makes her feel like a fairy Tinkerbell ehh cliche i know but i really cant help it my bff is a crazy gal with her around life can never be boring!.. she's my bff since last 7 years or so we are totally inseparable so much so that now i cannot imagine life without her really!..
"ergg can you please ramble about being a teen queen later Sarah ill remind you again if you dint hear me last time I AM STUDING!..I got exams tomorrow so i would really appreciate if you keep your happy bubble away form me!.." she was practically screaming now
''okay okay!.. jeez relax!.. i am leaving'' I said raising my hands giving up Shelly was really serious about her studies even though she was just in 6th grade i on the other hand was in 12th grade had board exams still dint bother studying until my ass was on fire!,.. umm.. not really.. but you get the point?!.. haha
"thank you!.." she said relived
i pouted and muttered "you are no fun!" under my breath but got off the bed and out of my room anyway i knew better than not messing with miss studious or the whole family would blame me for her shitty grades not that its possible for her to get bad grades still.. you know like the saying better safe than sorry right?
Just when i shut the door to leave miss studious alone i started bouncing again i seriously was freaking excited because after sooo long i was gonna have a real birthday party!.. i mean ofcource i always celebrated my birthdays but they were always low profile like it would be a family dinner or my family would take me shopping and i could practically ask for any darn thing in the mall. or it would just be a casual junk food with friends in McDonald's or just a hangout with Ava which by the way was always more fun than any other thing i could do at my birthday... my last REAL birthday was when i was 6 i think with all the giant cake all of my friends from school to vicinity and all my relatives aunt uncles godmother godfather cousins practically everyone i knew was present there so after a decade it was gonna happen again so i guess this explains my over excitement!
just when i was lost in my little la la land i heard my phone ringing and without even having a look at the caller ID i knew it was Ava my best friend since the 1st year of our friendship she would always be the 1st one wishing me calling me just minutes before midnight so no one else would wish me before she does i had a typical Indian family soo birthdays here was not that big of a deal for them as it was for us teens so they dint bother wishing till the sun rises.
Grinning like a dork i received the call "helloooooo" i said cheerfully
Ava laughed at my excitement "hey there miss sweet 16" she teased
"not for much longer sweety few more minutes and ill the sassy seventeen.." i said grinning
"i know just one more year and you will be able to drive and vote and.. drink.. haha gosh i am just so sad i cant make it to your birthday Sarah i soo wish i could!.. attend your party" she sighted
i laughed at her drink comment and said "yea.. i wish you would be here as well.. ahh hell Ava cant you just leave pune early in the morning? i am sure you will make it here just in time for my party" i asked hopefully
"i definitely would have if i could have.. but you know i have an exam tomorrow i am sorry" she said sadly and actually i did know she couldn't make it but still a part of me still hoped she would just show up somehow she was the person who always made sure all of my birthdays were special and awesome one way or another.. and this was the 1st time that she would not be present with me on my birthday she was studying for diploma in engineering and she got in a university in pune while her family lived here in Mumbai so she has to stay in hostel for studying she visited very often sometimes she would come in every two weeks but i still missed having her around all the time..
my phone stated beeping i moved it away from my ear just to see it there were three calls in waiting but ofcource Ava wont let me receive them until she's done wishing me it was not like i was complaining either
"okay now enough with the emo crap!.. wait up Sarah" she said
"huh" i asked not quite getting what she said while my phone kept on beeping and beeping continuously 7 calls in waiting 8 calls now.. and the numbers kept on increasing
there was a short silence then a recorded sound started from the other end with trumpet violins and a kids voice singing happy birthday to you.. and offcorce Ava was singing with the recorded voice
"awww hell Ava... that was sooo sweet!.. i said once she was finished singing "what is it?.. ahh let me guess that was a teddy with a baby voice?" i said laughing
"ahh booo Sarah that's not fair don't guess my gift before i am there to give it to you!.. ahh what a waste of surprise" i could here a pout in her voice
i laughed "sorry gal but no worries i'll act surprised when you give it to me i promise" i said still laughing now my phone literally started going crazy with the call waiting alerts
"Good girl now relive your crazy fans already or your phone will explode" she teased seems like they were so loud that even she could hear them wow i felt great.
"haha thanks Ava and i really miss you i don't know how is my day gonna be without you really" i said truthfully
" aww come on i know its gonna be rocking after all you are having a party okay bye now shoo keep the phone down already i don't want you eating up all my balance" she said
"yea yea you mizer bye" i laughed gawd ill miss her
just as i kept the phone down Bonney's call popped on the screen i received it and heard her scream from the other end "happy birthday Sarah!.. yaay i am the 1st one to wish you" she squeed bonney was the most childish person you could ever meet she was too childish too be 17!.. flirting and having a boyfriend seemed like a big bad crime to her and she got excited about the smallest thing a ride in amusement park!.. and would cry on small stuff like a guy abusing her best friend i loved her persona. she was totally worth meeting and fantabulous.
"thank you bonney and naah Ava wished me already like always"
"i know that but she wished you a minute earlier the time it is dot 12:00am now.." she giggled
"okay bonney then you are the first one to wish me thank you soo much" i said laughing at her kiddishness
"ahh and... wait for your surprise i am damn sure you wont see it coming!.. she said then grasped "ohh freaking god of funky monkeys i've said way too much okay Sarah bye i gotta drop the call so that i don't ruin your surprise any further bye byee byeeee" and she hung up..
and i couldn't just stop laughing she really is something. then sheila called up next well.. i ,sheila, holly,bonney and pinky were classes friends we went to same classes together and were a group there
"hey Sarah happy birthday! open the door there's a surprise for you " she said
"what?.." i asked shocked but did as she said anyway. there was a guy standing on my doorstep with a big bouquet of flowers it was totally beautiful with orchids and Lilly's and white bell flowers above them with ribbons falling over the whole thing it was breathtaking
i gasped in surprise looking at the guy that's when i noticed he was wearing a Archie's delivery boy hat and was carrying a Archie's handbag along with the bouquet "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GODDD!.." i screamed jumping up and down
sheila was laughing while to took the bag and bouquet from the guy there was a card in the bag i thought it would be a random happy birthday card but when i opened it i froze..
there were words printed across the card saying happy birthday Sarah with a picture of me eating candyfloss i remembered sheila clicking it when we went to subway for celebrating sheilas belated birthday my jaw nearly hit the floor when i opened the card it had four pictures of me and my classes friends striking all kinda funny poses yea we did that allot wherever we went for an outing " ohh crap this.. is amazing" i said as i read the words printed on our pictures it said
dear Sarah on this special day of yours we hope each day in your life is filled with happiness and never ending joy we love you and hope our friendship lasts forever it had their signatures on the last line
"awwww" i cooed feeling soo lucky to have friends like them
"hahaha surprise Sarah!.. hope you liked it!.." laughed sheila from the other end
"are you kidding me sheila i love it!.. god thank you soo much this is sooo special it truly is the best surprise ever thank you soo much!" i gushed
and i called each one of them back for thanking them again after receiving what seemed like a 100s of calls from friend and family from all around.. yea i sort of was very social i would practically talked to everyone in college and classes.
there were many sweet sms's from friends as well. it was almost 2:00 am talking to everyone and reading the text msgs and all"
mom dad for once dint complain since it was "MY DAY" gosh!.. don't we all just love birthdays?..
the night was fantabulous i hope the day is the same... please o please god!...
