MICHAEL'S POV

My eyes flickered to Soph, who was purposefully staring directly at the ground. Here cheeks were the slightest shade of pink, whilst Grace looked entirely gleeful.

"Uh," I muttered, running a hand through my har, entirely lost for words.

It was ont thing to have to kiss a freshman, but entirely another for that freshman to be Sophia Williams.

Sophia Williams : my best friend's little sister, the girl I have tormented for a solid five years.

I mean, I'm Michael Edwards. Basketball captain. I'm not an actor, or a singer. And I most definitely do not go around kissing freshmen. I have an image to uphold.

Thankfully, Sophia also seemed lost for words, so Grace stepped in.

"Now, I'd like to chat about professionalism," Grace said, emphasising the word.

She clasped her hands together, and stared meaningfully at Soph and I. The other four people in the drama club actually looked interested for once as something remotely exciting was happening.

"This is the first year that we will be performing a proper musical, and it has to be perfect. It is a romantic comedy, and I expect both of you to uphold the actors code of conduct," Grace said sternly.

Soph raised her eyebrows, "In case you haven't noticed, we're not actors. We have no clue what this 'code of conduct' is," she said, using her hands to make quotation marks.

I nodded in agreement, as Grace spluttered in anger. I tried to contain my laughter at how angry she looked. I met eyes with Soph briefly, and noticed that she looked amused at our drama teacher too.

"This isn't funny," Grace said grumpily, "The script is there for a reason, and you are to follow it. Principal George has a lot riding on this play, and you are going to perform it perfectly come opening night. Do you understand?"

I sighed, nodding my head. I watched as Soph hesitantly did the same.

"Now to the matter of the kiss, which is what I'm sure has you both so worked up about," she said, with a wink, returning to her usual happy self.

Soph blushed once again, and I couldn't help but smirk at her, causing her cheeks to turn an even deeper shade of pink. I knew Dylan would kill us if he knew about what the script said. He had given Soph a strict 'no seniors' policy, and I similarly had my 'no freshmen' policy.

"I don't want the kiss to happen until our first dress rehearsal, that way, it will seem natural," Grace said looking pleased with herself.

The two girls in the front row of drama club 'ooh'ed and 'aah'ed at this, whilst Soph looked extremely unhappy. I'm not going to lie, I kind of wondered why.

Usually, I had girls lining up to kiss me.

"Okay let's take it from the top of page six," Grace called, clapping her hands.

Page six

Jordan : "Megan, I think that I may love you."

*Megan stares at Jordan in shock.*

*Jordan grabs her by her shoulders and looks into her eyes*. "It's true."

*Jordan takes Megan's hand, and leads her away into an empty classroom.*

Megan : "We can't be in love. I've read Romeo and Juliet thousands of times, and forbidden love never works out."

*Jordan tilts Megan's chin up with his hand, so that she is looking him in the eye.*

Jordan : "Then we'll make a new love story."

*The two lean in to kiss, and get within an inch, only to be interrupted by a teacher coming into the room.*

********* SONG : Both begin to sing : Defying Gravity.

I quickly read through page six, and grimaced. It was corny and lame, just as I had expected. I shuddered. I would never have the same social life again after people saw me perform this on opening night. Hopefully, no one would even bother to come to the school musical. I knew Dylan would be there though, he thought it was hilarious that Soph and I had ended up in this together.

He wouldn't think it's funny when he sees this kiss...

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Grace exclaimed, interrupting my thoughts, "Hurry up and perform the scene, including the song."

I took a deep breath, and looked hesitantly at Soph, who seemed incredibly nervous. I saw her hands shaking slightly, and I shot her quick questioning look that she ignored.

SOPHIA'S POV

Sing? No, I'm not ready for this. I'm not ready for this at all.

Michael was looking at me weirdly, whilst I was in the process of having my mini freak out.

Just man up Soph, it's just singing. I thought to myself.

Before I knew it, Michael was holding the script in front of his face, reading out the words.

"Megan, I think I may love you," he said seriously, in a husky voice.

I didn't have to act hard to stare at him in shock, I was already in shock at having to sing.

Suddenly, Michael grabbed my shoulders. I couldn't concentrate as he looked into my eyes, "It's true."

Man, Michael is a good actor. Surprisingly.

He took my hand in his rough one, and led me into a fake classroom that was set up on the small stage.

I managed to mutter my corny line about being in love, trying to make it sound earnest.

I didn't know where to look as Michael gently lifted my face to meet his.

If I didn't know any better, I'd have sworn that Michael actually enjoyed acting.

And this is where it got really awkward.

Michael softly spoke, "Then we'll make a new love story."

I looked up at him, wincing as I did so. He seemed just as awkward as I did. He slowly moved his face closer to mine. Out of instinct, I leant further back, instead of towards him. Michael raised an eyebrow at me, and I shrugged sheepishly.

I heard a giggle from the front row, and I could see Grace staring at me sternly.

Sighing, I regained my composure and leant towards Michael slightly, however I doubted it was close enough to make Grace happy.

We stayed inches apart, eyeing each other off wearily for a few moments.

Finally, Grace called, "And cut!"

We both leant back immediately, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Okay, it's song time!" Grace exclaimed, as she rushed to the CD player to turn on 'Defying Gravity'

MICHAEL'S POV

It felt weird, to be touching Soph the way a boyfriend would. But strangely, in some ways, it felt normal. I shrugged off this thought, and turned my attention to the music.

The beginning notes of the song were playing, and I realised that I had the first few lines. I quickly found the lyrics, and began to sing.

I couldn't believe I am singing right now. I was meant to be at basketball practice. And instead, I am on stage, singing. Honestly, my basketball team would have a field day if they ever saw me like this.

Soph, who had been looking anywhere but at me, finally looked at me as I began to sing. She still looked really nervous, and her voice came out slightly shaky at first as she began her first few lines.

She shut her eyes tightly, as if she was trying to shut out the world. I couldn't help but notice however, that she had an insane voice. Her voice carried the notes perfectly, and I could tell Grace was really impressed.

SOPHIA'S POV

I winced at my own voice, as it came out shaky at first. Instinctively, I shut my eyes, trying to block out the fact that I was singing in front of Michael, Grace, and the.. people in 'drama club'

On the other hand, Michael's voice was surprisingly, well, absolutely amazing. It came out kind of husky, but the lyrics flowed and sounded melodic.

We finished the song, and stood staring at each other.

Grace came on stage, clapping gleefully.

"That was better that I ever expected," she exclaimed in shock. Nice to know that we had her support.

"Where did you both learn to sing like that?" She asked.

Michael shrugged, and without thinking I muttered, "My mom."

I immediately noticed a sympatheic look appear in Michael's eyes, as he looked over at me. Being Dylan's best friend, he knew all about our mother.

Grace sighed sadly, "Oh Sophie, I taught your Mom too, you know," she said.

It took me a while to comprehend this, "What?" I asked, in shock. Well, I guess Grace is quite old..

"One of my best students," Grace stated proudly.

I nodded numbly, trying to block out any thoughts of my mother. I refused to admit how upset I was.

"I uh, better go," I sad suddenly, and I turned on my heel and quickly left the room.

I heard Michael call out to me, but I had gone before he even had the chance to follow.

----------------------------------------------------------

I practically sprinted home after drama, trying to shake the thought out of my head that Grace had known my mother.

In an attempt to distract myself, I found myself texting Fred and asking whether he wanted to meet up.

He seemed more than keen to do this, so we agreed to meet at Starbucks once again.

I quickly changed out my school slothes, and began the walk down to Starbucks.

Fred was waiting for me outside, and his face lit up in a huge grin once he saw me. I couldn't help but smile back, already forgetting about musical rehearseal this afternoon.

Once again, Fred refused to let me pay. I had blushed when he pushed my hand away when I tried to pay, and he had gently touched my cheek, telling me that I was cute when I blushed.

This only caused me to turn redder.

I really need to control my blushing.

Fred and I sat down and drank our coffees, chatting about school and life in general. Once we had finished, he offered to walk me home again. This time I accepted, as it was becoming dark.

We walked in silence for most of the journey, but it was a comfortable silence. When we were near my house, Fred stopped me from walking.

I stood, staring at him curiously. He began to lean towards me, and I felt a smile tug on my lips. I inched closer to him, doing the exact opposite of what I had done this afternoon with Michael.

Instead of pulling back, my lips met his. He massaged his lips gently against mine, and before I knew it, he had pulled away. Okay, so that was definitely the best kiss I've ever had.

We stayed staring at each other, and I felt myself blush again.

"You are really cute when you blush," Fred said with a smirk, as I tried to hide my face.

He enveloped me in a hug, and whispered in my ear, "I've been wanting to kiss you all night. I hope you didn't mind."

I shivered at how close he was, and I quickly shook my head, "I didn't mind at al," I said with a smile.
