If it isn't obvious this is a flashback, the story will eventually make it's way back to the present I promise! ~ ~ ~ ~
"No! Joey don't hurt Bella!" Lía whimpered at the dark haired boy holding her pet, the last thing her mother had given to her before passing away, a russet colored beagle puppy. He had her by the neck and was holding her menacingly over an open window, "Jonny! Josh! He's gonna hurt Bella!" She cried, Joe narrowed his eyes at her, as he heard the footsteps of her cousins coming up the stairs, she could hear the cars passing outside below the open window.
"Then say you're sorry" he growled, she didn't even remember what she had done to get him so angry,
"I'm sorry ok? I'm sorry just leave Bella alone" she pleaded reaching for the dog who was starting to claw at his hand.
"Ow fuck!" He yelped as Bella bit his hand,
"No!" Lía cried as she saw Bella drop in the air to the traffic below, Jonny and Josh reaching the room just as she almost hopped out of the window after her, they caught her in time as she cried uncontrollably.
"What happened?!" They yelled, Jonny held her while Josh looked at Joe accusingly.
"It was an accident!" Joe gasped his face drained of color,
"He killed Bella!" howled Lía,
"What's going on?!" Shouted Sarona as she came up the stairs, being the oldest she was in charge while their parents were away.
"HE KILLED BELLA!" Howled Lía crying .
"Lía calm down" Sarona rolled her eyes at her younger sister "what happened?" She asked the twins irritated she had just gotten home from training and was in no mood for drama. The shrugged,
"We were down stairs watching TV" Josh started
"When we heard Lía shouting about Joe hurting Bella" Jonny finished.
"What did you do?!" Sarona glared at Joe who was still standing near the window pale as milk looking out of the window.
"It was an accident! She bit me! I didn't mean to drop her" he stuttered , Lía wrapped her arms around her sisters legs sobbing.
"Rona he killed Bella, mom gave me Bella, my mom" she sobbed, she half expected her older sister to rebuff her as usual but was surprised when her sister soothingly stroked her hair, she bent down to her level, "It's going to be ok, I bet Bella is fine" she tried to be nice but Lía could tell it was hard for her to be nice to her practically intrusive younger half sister, "Josh and Jonny, can you go look for the dog? Please?" She muttered, they looked at her surprised before going,
"I'm sure she's fine" assured Jonny, since her arrival the twins had been nicest to her.
"Yeah Lía don't worry about it" smiled Josh as they went to look for Bella, Sarona turned to Joe
"As for you, you better hope that dog is ok, or your father will Samoan drop you" she warned before scooping up Lía and taking her to the bathroom to wipe her tears, then they went to the living room where they sat and waited for Jonny and Josh to come back. Sarona took a moment to observe the small sniffling 7 year old girl, she had a mane of mahogany hair and watery brown almost grey eyes, she had pale smooth skin and long lashes, she looked nothing like their father, she could only imagine she looked like her mother, who had recently died of a heart attack, Lía had been brought to their door by a social worker with a suitcase and her dog, it was either them or a foster home. Her dad seemed surprised at her existence, but after finding out who her mother was took her in immediately. Sarona couldn't help but feel hostility toward the intruder in her family, she'd treated her coldly the whole month she had been there up until now, now she felt pity for the little girl, the only thing she had left was that dog and now it was possibly gone. She must feel so alone in a house where everyone was so close, where she knew nobody, she looked at her again, she was hugging herself. "Is Lía short for something?" She asked softly
"My mommy named me Rosalía, but she called me Lía for short because she said a great woman went by that name too" Sarona smiled
"like Lía Maivia?" She asked
"Yeah I think that's who mommy said" she sniffled looking out of the window in hopes to see the twins come back with her dog, she turned to look at Sarona her eyes wide, "Rona do you hate me? I know Joey does" she sniffled,
"What?" Asked Sarona nervously "He told me, and I guess he showed me too" she sniffled "do you? I know Josh and Jonny like me, but do you?" She asked again, thankfully at that moment the twins came in, helping Sarona avoid answering the question she had been asking herself.
"Did you find the dog?" She asked clearing her throat, they looked at her sadly, Lía hopped up hopefully
"We did but..."Jonny trailed off "She's not...ok" Josh muttered, Lía began to cry, she spotted Joe sitting at the top of the stairs, the 13 year old boy looked at her almost without remorse ,
"I hate you! I hate you!" She cried taking off her shoe and throwing it at him surprisingly nailing him right in the face. "You killed Bella! You killed the only thing piece I had left of my mom! I'll never forgive you!" She sobbed collapsing to her knees.
"Lía baby" Her 20 year old sister tried to comfort her
"No leave me alone! I wish I never came here" she got up and ran up to her room where she ran into the closet and shut the door. She sat amongst her shoes crying, she missed her mother so much. Her whole like life it had just been her mother and her and now her life was so different. She didn't know how to cope, she felt so alone. Eventually she fell asleep after tiring herself out with crying. She woke up to see the sunlight streaming into her room and on her face,
"Lía wake up! It's time for school" shouted her dad opening the door
"It's summer dad" she groaned, she was now 14 years old and had just finished her Freshman year is high school, Sarona was long gone to become a professional wrestler. She couldn't believe she had had the dream about Bella's death again. She still hated Joey, they avoided each other as much as possible, as for Sarona after that day their relationship remained strained, she grew much closer to the twins, they loved her like a sister, and the relationship with her father was practically nonexistent.
"Wrestling school Lía" he told her, she sat up. She had seemed to forgotten that they were spending the summer in Samoa as they always did. She'd been waiting for this moment forever it seemed. At 14 they were allowed to be trained by their uncles to become professional wrestlers, she was part of a legacy now.
"Ok!" She scrambled out of bed and threw on some clothes and her shoes before pulling her long mahogany mane into a ponytail. "Ready!" She announced bounding down the stairs her dad looked at her proudly
"Indeed you are, but lets see what your uncles think" he laughed as they got into the car. Lía was sure she could keep up, she had been secretly watching them train since she had gotten there and been practicing on her own. As soon as they arrived she hoped out of the car excitedly,
"Hi!" She said excitedly, she almost called them Tios which meant uncles in Spanish, she had managed to retain the Spanish her mother had taught her by speaking to herself in Spanish but found her new family wasn't too fond of it.
"Hello Lía, growing more beautiful by the day I see" her Uncle Solofa aka Rikishi and the twins father told her giving her a welcoming hug.
"Being early is being on time and you're on time" smiled her Uncle Sika the father of Joe, he had tried to be nice to her to make up for Bella but Lía never blamed him, her Uncles Afa and Eddie looked busy talking to each other as they awaited for everyone else to arrive. Jonny and Josh arrived together at 19 they were pretty much in their last summer of training, then came a few others who were just students, more cousins, and just when she thought everyone was there as everyone began to stretch she heard the doors of the gym open, everyone turned to look, she spotted a familiar looking man with dark hair and stern blue eyes, he walked nonchalantly to her Uncle Sika who looked surprised to see him, before throwing his arms around him
"Leati it's been too long" he told him as he hugged him
"It's only been a year dad" he groaned annoyed "I came back to stay fit for the summer" he shrugged, Lía glared at him, but he took no notice of her, instead he was busy eyeing a busty girl in the third row.
"Well it's good to have you back son" Sika glowed, "go join the others" he pointed at a spot beside Lía, he walked over and began to stretch still taking no notice of her ignoring her, either way she was glad and she turned her back and kept stretching.
"Nice ink" she heard him smirk behind her, she knew he was referring to the Aztec sun she had gotten tattooed just below her shoulder blade where her bra usually covered, she quickly covered it ignoring "bet your daddy doesn't know about that one" he smirked, she continued to ignore him.
"Alright lets run some laps!" Ordered her dad, they all got up and ran toward the door as they all filed out of the gym and into the street, she wanted to know the exact trail before getting to the front, after the first two laps she knew she had it memorized and began to make the way to the front of the pack, she had seen Joey in the front showing off his speed, leaving everyone trailing behind him, he thought he was big shit since he had left to college the year before on a football scholarship. She had hoped that would've been the last time she ever saw him but now she wanted nothing more than to embarrass him. She began to pass him up, he turned to see who the hell had dared ruin his show, when he saw who it was he rolled his eyes and picked up speed but so did Lía
"Pace yourselves!" Called their uncle Eddie but they ignored him as they continued to struggle to cut each other off, Lía pushed herself to go faster as she pushed in front of him, she stayed that way until the last lap when she kicked it into high gear and left him eating her dust, she made her way back to the gym where she leaned over and tried to catch her breath,
"Lía don't push yourself so hard, it's your first day, you're not going to be able to keep up" her dad advised, she looked at him bewildered, had he not seen what had just happened?! She nodded not wanting to argue as she walked back into the gym, she spent the rest of the first day of training in a foul mood, but still exceeding everyone training. When it was over her dad told her to go wait by the car while he discusses important plans with her uncles whatever that meant. She waited by the car sweaty, sore, and tired. She knew the island pretty well but didn't want to piss her dad off by leaving on her own, plus she didn't think she had the strength to walk home on her own.
"Hey Lía you need a ride home?" Asked Jonny as Josh loaded the car
"No brah it's alright, I'll wait for my dad" she shrugged slightly irritated,
"You sure? Seems like whatever they're discussing is going to take a while" Josh warned.
"Yeah I'll wait, I don't want to piss him off" she sighed, sitting on the bumper she sat there for another 5 minutes when Ray a local guy and fellow student from training came up to her.
"Hey Lía right?" He asked, his hazel eyes sending flutters into her stomach.
"Yeah...Ray right?" She asked shyly acting as if she didn't know his name
"Yeah" he smiled, "hey you need a ride?" He asked "well actually I don't have a car but I could walk you home" he offered,
"Oh that's so nice of you, well I-" she began to say before getting cut off by a deep voice
"I'm taking her home" she turned to see an irate Joey clutching his keys on his hand,
"I rather walk" she rolled her eyes,
"It's no problem I can walk her" Ray stuttered nervously,
"I'm taking her" growled Joe impatiently. "Get out of here kid" Ray looked at him wide eyed nodding before leaving quickly "lets go" he ordered turning to leave
"I rather wait all night here for my dad than go anywhere with you" she hissed not moving, he turned annoyed
"Look Lía" he said her name like it was dirt, "your dad told me to take you home now get in the damn car" he ordered holding the door open.
"No" she said turning as she began to walk home. He heard him growl in annoyance, before she knew it she was being thrown over his shoulder and into the car the door was shit behind her. "You're such an asshole!" She pouted tempted to jump out of the car as he pulled out of the lot, she reached for the door handle
"Lía I swear to God if you jump out of this car I will beat the shit out of you" he growled
"I wouldn't doubt it" she muttered bitterly sitting back and crossing her arms, they drove in silence she glanced at him and saw him looking at her chest out of the corner of her eye, she smacked him "What the hell?!" He groaned "Pervert!" She accused zipping up her hoodie, he laughed
"There's not much too look at"
"Then don't look" she growled annoyed
"So that Ray kid likes you eh?" He asked
"None of your business" she muttered, he sighed.
"Don't see why he would" he teased, she flipped him off,
"So what happened Mr. Big Shot football star, did they realize you suck and let you go?" She asked, he glared at her
"It's called summer vacation"
"Whatever you say"
"Still a bitch I see"
"Only to you" she rolled her eyes. "Ask anyone else I'm a sweetheart, which would never be said of you"
"Whatever you say" the tension between them was thick as they drove, she could still feel him leering at her developing body, she knew she looked different, she filling out to say the least, but the fact that he was looking made her uncomfortable, hit because they weren't blood related didn't mean he could look. Finally they arrived at her house, she hopped out of the car quickly, regretting wearing such short shorts and only a sports bra as she felt his eyes follow her out. "You know if you didn't run your mouth so much you could actually be cute" he called after her but she flipped him off and shut the door of her house bolting it behind her.
