Part 68
Alec’s POV
What?! Alex’s parents were behind all of this?! Are you freaking kidding me?! I thought they were misunderstood, loving parents, turns out I was wrong.
My hands instantly started to flame up even more. I was so pissed off at this news. I had tried to get Alex closer to her parents when her parents had already taken a side against her?!?! I felt sick now to even have thought of thinking that.
“Alec, please calm down!” Marie yelled, entering.
“Were you in on this too?!” I yelled.
“In on what?! Alec, get rid of that flame first and then we’ll talk.” Maria said.
No one could calm me down other than Alex. I was a raging lunatic without her. There wasn’t much anyone could do to stop me now. Jack did an incantation to stop the fire temporarily.
“Chill, Alec. You can’t just assume everything. Though I’m surprised that you’ve gotten this far.” Jack said, calmly.
“So you were in on this?!” I asked.
“We’re not a part of their group. We’re on your side, if that’s what you’re asking. We did know about all this though.” Jack explained.
“Who else is on my side?” I asked.
“Depends on what your side is. You’re going to fight against her if she turns evil, but to make her good, not to kill her. There really aren’t a lot of people on that side.” John said.
“We know your pack is in agreement with you though.” Jacob said, cheerfully.
“I don’t care if I have to fight all of you off. I don’t care who you are to me, if you lay a hand on Alex intending to kill her, you will die.” I told everyone in this room, daring them to challenge me.
“Alec, we have to.” Bells said, desperately.
“It’s not like they’re holding something dear to you hostage! You do have a choice!! You just don’t want to!” I accused.
This time the room stayed quiet. They knew I was right, because there really was no reason why they couldn’t be on my side. They just chose to stay on that side, for whatever reason, I didn’t really care.
“We’re afraid that they might do something if we chose to go with you instead of them.” Josh whispered.
“What can they possibly use against you? Your friends? That’s Alex. Your family? They already know of the situation and would definitely be ok if you changed sides. There’s nothing that’s holding you back from doing what you want, but you.” I told them.
No one said anything. I was fine with that. I don’t care if they chose my side or their own. If they touch Alex with the intent to harm, they won’t live to see the next second.
“Alec, get some rest. Alex is fine. You need your sleep.” Marie said, kindly.
“I’ll sleep here if you don’t mind.” I told her, going back to sit next to Alex.
I laid my head on the side of her bed, careful not to disturb her. I would make sure no one could come near her. Marie, Maria, Mary, Jack, John, and Jacob all sighed at my persistent, stubbornness. They knew I loved her though, and they knew I would do anything for her. It was as simple as that. That’s why they all left to do their own thing.
I fell asleep for about an hour at max. I couldn’t sleep without her. I missed having her so close to me, while we slept. I miss waking up to her peaceful sleeping face. As I woke up, I saw Olive and Bells on the other side of Alex’s bed. They were looking down at Alex, sadly and guiltily. They hadn’t noticed I had woken up.
“We’re sorry Alex. We really want to be your best friends. We want you to trust us. We want you to love us as much as we love you. We’re going to try to fix this, just for you.” Bells apologized.
“We’ll try our hardest to make everything happier for you, even if it means we’re miserable. We’re really sorry for what we’ve done Alex. Please forgive us.” Olive apologized too.
“If you really mean it, she’ll forgive you.” I said, softly.
This startled them, considering that they hadn’t known I was awake.
“We’re sorry, Alec. We’re going to try to make everything better. First, by joining your side, but we’re going to say we’re still on their side.” Bells explained to me.
“Yeah, so we can still get information on what’s going on, on that side.” Olive explained further, again, with fewer words.
“Are you sure? I’m not sure I can trust you people anymore.” I told them.
They flinched at this, and had really guilty faces, so I figured they were being genuine here.
“Welcome to the good side.” I said, smirking a little.
“Thank you.” They said, quietly, exiting afterwards.
I just stared at Alex for a while, wondering when she’d wake up. I had a feeling that she wouldn’t take too long and that she was trying to wake up as I thought this.
“Alec, can I talk to you?” asked a voice from behind.
It was Josh; he was standing by the door, playing with his hands nervously. I smiled at that, he was probably here to apologize too.
“I’m sorry, Alec. I really wanted to do something for Alex, for always being there for me, even when she didn’t know we were related. She’s like a big sister to me, even though we’re the same age. No matter how hard I try to hide something, it never gets past Alex. She’s always the first one to know when something’s wrong or when I want to talk about something but can’t. I wanted to tell her from the start that she was my cousin, I really did. I just couldn’t though. I wish I had though, and sooner, so she knew what she was going up against.” Josh apologized.
“Let me guess. Now you want to go to my side, without telling the other side that you’re on my side.” I said, smirking.
“Yeah, I also wish that Alex would forgive me for what’s I’ve done.” He said.
“Well, she was really hurt that you didn’t tell her; especially when you tell her everything and anything, no matter what time of the day or how trivial.” I started off.
He looked really sad as I said that. I knew he really had wanted to tell her, he was fighting himself internally, which causes a lot stress.
“I also know that she forgave you. She loves you too much to hold a grudge. Actually, I don’t think Alex is able to hold a grudge.” I said, much to his happiness.
“Really?! Thanks Alec.” Josh said, relived.
Josh also left, happily and reassured. I knew that Josh really wanted to tell her, he loved Alex as Jacob does, the brotherly, protective, yet playful type. The only one left was Andrew, and I knew he would come soon, I had thought he would come first.
“Alec, we’re sorry, bro.” Oscar and Brendan came in, apologizing.
“Apology not accepted.” I said, angry.
They knew about this the whole time and didn’t bother to tell me. If I knew things would have been different, a whole lot different.
“We’re still on your side, dude, no matter what.” Brendan answered my unasked question.
“Then why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.
“We found out a while ago, but they also knew that we knew, and made us not tell you. We thought we were doing the right thing, because they said that it was for your and Alex’s safety. We didn’t know that they had tricked us until about now.” Oscar explained.
“We really are sorry dude. We didn’t mean to cause so much trouble.” Brendan said.
Technically, they were innocent, considering they had thought they were helping us, so I shouldn’t hold a grudge. I just wish they had told us, I mean they’re my best friends. We’re like brothers, only not related.
“Yeah, no problem. It’s not really your fault, I guess. You just got caught into this mess because of me, my mate and your mates. You guys are just victim of circumstances, in the wrong place at the wrong time.” I forgave them.
“Thanks, Alec. We really hope everything goes good with you guys. After all this trouble you deserve some happiness.” Oscar said.
“Yeah, well you guys know my plan.” I told them.
They smiled in remembrance. I had something big planned for Alex, something that would shock her but I hoped she liked it.
They left soon after, to do whatever it is they were doing before.
I had a feeling Andrew was coming next.
“Alec, you need to know something.” Andrew’s voice came from behind me.
Right on cue, I thought.
Andrew made his way to Alex’s other side, as he sat down and took his big sister’s hand. He looked conflicted, like he wanted to say something but was having a hard time saying it.
“I’ve always been on your side, whether you knew it or not.” He blurted it out.
“I know.” I answered, softly.
“Yes, I have and—” He started then stopped.
“Wait, did you say you knew?” He backtracked and asked.
“Yeah, I knew that out of Alex’s family, you and Suzy were the most genuine. You really wanted to be by Alex’s side no matter what. I knew that from the start. I also knew that you were just pretending to be on their side. I knew in secret you were on my side, because you care about her like any good brother.” I told him.
He let out a breath in relief, as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders, which to him it probably had. He had to keep it a secret for so long, and now that he had finally told someone it felt like weight taken off his chest.
“Alex really loves you. She’s been wanting siblings for as long as she can remember. She also thought so highly of you before she met you, like you could do no wrong, and in her eyes it’s probably true.” I told him.
“I love her. You have no idea how I wished to be by her side every second. I really wished to get close to her, but I couldn’t. So I settled for the next best thing, to give her everything she wanted. If she even glances at something in want, I’d get it for her. It was hard though, considering she almost never let her desires show.” Andrew told me.
“You think she’ll be ok?” Andrew asked.
I knew what he was talking about. He was scared that Alex would turn evil and that he’d have to fight her back to her normal self. I was too, but I wasn’t going to let it show.
“Yeah, and once this is all over, I know Alex will be happier than she’s ever been in her entire life. I’ve got something for her after all this, something I wanted to show her on the date but never got the chance.” I told him.
“What is it?” Andrew asked.
I told him my plan and he agreed instantly to help me. I was happy that I had someone to help me. I wasn’t exactly sure that Andrew or any of Alex’s friends and family would be ok with this. I was going to make Alex’s entire life change, if she would let me.
