I boarded a train one night you see,
Many board them at night, no big deal,
But who would have known that this journey was the key,
To enlightenment so great; to lessons that could heal.
A poet at heart I noted this thing,
I compared the train to the life we lead,
The train whistled as it started to move,
In my fantasy a baby was born as I heard the relatives jubilantly sing,
Now I realized the train had gained speed,
In my imagination the child pushed forward through life seeking to improve.
The train slowed at turns and then sped again,
I saw the child making mistakes and learning from it,
And as the train sped, it began to rain,
Struggles in the child's life trying to hinder; trying some hard hit.
Yet the train moved on from clouds into clear,
The child too made it through to other side now,
The train halted at a station where few left and few joined,
A man now he smiled, he has seen this before through many a year,
The train now halted due to falling of a bough,
These were difficulties faced in manhood conjoined.
Long they waited before the passengers together cleared the tracks,
This showed a strong family supporting each other to overcome obstacles small or great,
And as the train rushed again through the night by the barracks,
I understood that it's life of commitment to move forward unafraid of threat.
And at dawn it reached its destination, passengers got down,
An old man now on death bed thinking about his life,
And his family surrounding him, supporting him with a smile,
Humbled by the experience I walked away into the town,
But the night train travels on teaching many about the strife,
Teaching about the entire life while covering oh so many miles.
