Liam's POV:
Today management told us that we'd need our check-ups done before the start of tour. It shouldn't be a problem though because when we aren't on tour, we are all doctors, so we'll just give each other a check-up. Yesterday, we decided who would do each person's check-up, and Niall and I are doing Louis and Harry's while they do ours. It's not that we don't want them to give each other a check-up, but the fact that even though they are both doctors themselves, they're terrified of having someone else give them a check-up and getting shots. It's kind of funny because they are the ones that have the most tattoos and such, yet they're afraid of shots. They keep saying that tattoos are different though. It's not the pain that scares them, but the fact that they have something inside them and they have no control over what it does to them. Because a tattoo doesn't go below the skin surface, into the blood stream, and the fact that they have full control over what is happening, they're okay with it.
Both Harry and Louis may be afraid of shots and check-ups themselves, but they are actually really good doctors when they have to do check-ups on other people. So, with that being said, I'll be doing Harry's check-up, while Harry does my check up, Niall will do Louis' check-up, and Louis will do Niall's check-up. This way, it's spread out that there's a person not afraid of the shots and check-ups paired with someone that is.
It's now time for our check-ups, so I meet the other guys at the medical bus. Surprise, surprise, I'm the first one here. It's not my fault that I actually get to places on time. While I wait for the other guys to get here, I get the rooms prepped and ready for us to use. I'm just filling up the syringes with the needed medications and capping the needles, when I hear the others walking in. "Hey guys. I'm in here", I tell them and meet them halfway to the exam rooms. "Hey Li, hope you haven't been waiting long. We just had to finish a round of football and it was a tied game", Louis says and I nod. "No problem. Haz, you ready?" I ask and he gives me a look of pure fear. I gently, but sternly grab his arm and direct him to the room, while Niall does the same with Louis.
I close the door, so Harry can't try to run away, and gesture for Harry to sit on the table. He does and I grab my stethoscope that's around my neck, and say, "Haz, I'm just going to listen to your heart and lungs. No need to be afraid. You know I'd never hurt you". Harry nods his head and tries to relax while I listen to his heart and lungs with my stethoscope. Both sound good and clear, so I move on to checking his vitals. I check his pulse and temperature quickly and write down that both are normal, just a little high because he's scared.
I then go to grab the blood pressure cuff, but Harry cringes in fear. I see this and asks him, "Haz, what's wrong? Why don't you like the cuff? All you'll feel is a little pressure, that's it. You know that." Harry continues to cringe, so I sit down next to him and bring him in my arms to help calm him down. Slowly, Harry calms down and tells me, "Li, I know what it does and that it won't hurt, but I just don't like the feel of it. I don't like that it squeezes my arm and I can't do anything to stop it. I just don't like it". I continue to try to comfort Harry down and tell him, "Haz, its okay. We still have to do it, but we can wait until the end for it. That way you can calm down a bit before we have to do that". He nods his head and I grab my light and otoscope to start checking his eyes, ears, nose, and throat. They all look good, so I then go on to checking Harry's tummy and making sure all his organs are working the way they should be. "Haz, can you lay down for me?" Harry hesitantly lays down and I tell him what I'm doing so not to scare him. "Harry, I'm just going to check to see if your organs are in working order and that there's no pain. You have to tell me if you feel anything out of the ordinary or if you're in any pain". Harry nods, and I begin to gently feel his stomach. He cringes and proclaims, "Li, your hands are really cold!" "Sorry Haz", I say and try to warm them up a bit.
Once they are a little bit warmer, I try again. I feel all four quadrants and listen to his bowel sounds. Once I'm done with that, I tell him he can sit up, in which he does. "Okay Harry, you now have a choice. You need two shots before we go on tour to protect you from malaria and small pox. You can choose if you want me to give you your shots first, or do your blood pressure first? You have to do both, but which do you want first?" I tell him. Harry thinks about it for a solid minute before he quickly whispers, "Blood pressure". I nod and grab the blood pressure cuff and slide it around his arm. "Okay Haz, I know you don't like this, but jut count to 60 and it will all be over", I tell him. He starts to count and I pump up the cuff and listen to hear at what point the pressure makes his vein stop pumping blood, with my stethoscope. It takes only 45 seconds and I release the cuff.
"Good job Harry! I'm proud of you for doing that!" I tell him and give him a hug. He smiles at the praise, but I have to get back to the job at hand now. "Haz, now I have to do the shots. Just close your eyes and count to 60 again and it will be over before you know it". Once his eyes are closed, I wipe his arm with an alcohol wipe and plunge in the first shot. Harry winces, but before he can complain, I plunge in the second shot and it's all over. Harry's breathing heavily from fear now, so I tuck him in my arm and say, "Shh, Haz, It's all done. You're all done. Now you can go on tour and there shouldn't be any complications. You did so well for me. You're okay". Harry calms down and now it's my turn to be the patient and him be the doctor. He gets up and I lay down and he gives me my physical and shots with no complaints from me.
Meanwhile, in the other room, Louis' freaking out.
Louis' POV:
I just gave Niall his check-up. We decided that it would be easier if I did his check-up first and then he did mine, so that once my physical was done, we could just go. Now I'm sitting on the bed while Niall is getting the supplies ready and thinking, "I don't know why we have to get physicals! I mean, we're doctors! Why can't we just give ourselves our physicals?" Niall comes back into the room and I see him grab the thermometer as well as the otoscope and I start to freak out. I absolutely hate things in my ears! I just don't like the feeling of something in my ear because when I was younger, I got something stuck in it and it scared me (this really did happen to me. I did get something stuck in my ear and had to go to the hospital to get it out. It wasn't a fun experience at all).
I thrash about and cover my ears so that Niall can't get to them. "Lou, please stop! Why are you so freaked out?" he asks. "I don't like things going in my ear. I had a bad experience with something getting stuck in it when I was younger and so I don't like it now", I tell him. I see Niall's expression soften and he gives me one of his famous Horan hugs that I just melts into. I curl up in his arms and feel like a kid again in his mother's arms. "Lou, thank you for telling me this. Just know that I would never hurt you. I still have to check your ears, but I'll make it really fast, and I'll take your temperature orally instead of by ear, so that way you don't have to have two things going in your ears if it makes you uncomfortable", Niall says and I nod still in his arms.
He pulls out of the hug and grabs the oral thermometer instead. "Lou, can you open your mouth for me and I'll put this under your tongue for a few minutes", Niall asks me and I open my mouth. I hold it under my tongue and a few minutes later, Niall takes it out. "98.6, perfect", he says and smiles. He grabs his stethoscope and listens to my heart and lungs. "All clear and strong". He then grabs the blood pressure cuff and puts it on my arm. I wince at the pressure, but it's done in less than a minute so I'm fine. Next he checks my eyes, nose, and throat. He leaves checking my ears for later, and says, "All good Lou. Can you lay down for me?" I lay down and Niall gently presses down on my belly in four places.
When he presses down a little deeper though, I feel a little pain right over my stomach and I wince. "Did that hurt?" Niall asks and I nod. He gently presses down again and I wince again. "Sorry Lou, it looks like you're in the start of a stomach bug. I'll give you some medicine for it once we are done. It's a good thing that we are finding out now though. That way we can stop it before it starts", Niall says as he rubs my back and shoulders comfortingly.
We finish up everything else and all that's left is the shots and checking my ears. "Okay Lou, I'm going to check your ears now. Nothing to be scared of though. I'm going to be gentle and it will take less than a minute and I'll be done. Just relax for me, and if you get scared, squeeze this", he says and hands me the teddy bear that we used in our music video for Night Changes. I hold it and feel Niall put the otoscope in my ear. I whimper and hold the bear tighter. Not even 10 seconds later, Niall takes it out and moves to the other side. He puts it in the other side and I cry out, "Stop!" and hold the bear while I shake. Niall gets done with the whole thing in less than one minute's time and gives me a hug after. "You do so well Lou. All that's left are the shots. Are you ready to do them now?" he asks and I nod my head yes. "Thank you Lou. I promise, it'll just be a few minutes and then we will be done and we can go home and just watch movies the rest of the night with Harry and Liam. You have three shots. You have to have an extra one so you don't get the stomach flu, since you are in the starting's of getting it", he tells me.
He gets the shots ready and I close my eyes. I feel him clean my arm off with an alcohol pad and he says, "On three. One, two, three". He puts in the first one and it really hurts! I whimper and tears start to form in my eyes. "It's okay Lou. One down just two more to go". He pushes the second one in and the tears fall down my face and I hug the teddy bear again. Quickly he pushes the third one in and then comforts me. "Shh, Lou, you're all done. No more", he says while giving me a hug and wiping my tears away. I hate it when I cry, but I'm glad that Niall is there to comfort me through it.
Slowly, I settle down and we get up. We walk out of the room just as Harry and Liam are walking out. "Hey guys, everything good?" Niall asks and they both nod. "Let's go back me my place and just order in and watch some movies, maybe play some FIFA", I say and we all agree and head over to my house for the rest of the night. The next morning we head off for our world tour and have a wonderful time preforming for all the fan and meeting some of them.
