the next morning emma woke up with an unflattering feeling in her stomach. she wasn't sure where it came from, but more then likely it was because of what happened the night before.
she walked into the kitchen to get breakfast when she saw the boy she was hoping not to run into eating pancakes. matt breath hitched seeing emma still in his clothes. they just stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do or say. for the first time they fell into an uncomfortable silence with each other. they both realized they liked each other as more then just friends and didn't fully know what to do with the information.
emma quickly ate some breakfast that nick insisted on her eating. after that she quickly packed her backpack and got changed into the clothes she was wearing yesterday folding the previous ones she had on in a pile on nick's bed.
she left the house in a rush quickly saying goodbye to nick and chris who had finally entered the kitchen seemingly barely woken up.
matt was kind of upset that emma didn't say bye to him but maybe it had nothing to do with the previous night, maybe it was cause she didn't want to blow their cover, but in the end that would seem silly. matt sighed knowing it probably was about last night and they had both made things complicated.
"do you guys like hate each other or something?" nick asked
no, very much the opposite is what matt wanted to say but he stopped himself from the sentence from falling out of his mouth.
"yeah, you guys seemed fine yesterday, which I thought was wired considering you guys stopped liking each other. but now you guys are like super awkward, did something happen last night? did you realize you actually still like her and you wont give up on her that easily" chris asked rambling
"both of you just stop asking questions! nothing happened, nothing will ever happen between us okay so stop with the curiosity" matt spat not knowing emma was on the other side of the door realizing she forgot her jacket.
emma sighed knowing he probably just said that because so they didn't get caught but at the same time it really hurt. emma just left forgetting her jacket, wanting to leave as soon as possible.
the weekend for emma dragged. it was pretty boring which normally she would love but all she could think about was matt. she tired distracting herself she really did but it didn't help. what didn't help either is matt didn't even try contacting her at all either. when monday came she realized her and matt had officially entered the awkward phase.
emma went through her classes pretty well not having a huge problem until she bumped into matt.
"hey sorry about friday, I don't want to make things weird or anything" matt said scratching the back of his neck nervously
"no its okay" emma whispered
"so were good right?" matt asked
hesitantly emma nodded, she wasn't sure if they were good but she knew she wanted matt as a friend more than anything else.
"can we just forget about friday? can we just stay normal friends and not have to be awkward?" emma asked hesitantly
she could see when matt's face visibly fell, but she brushed it off.
"yeah no yeah that's probably the best idea, considering your friends with nick now" matt said fake smiling
"right see you at lunch" emma told him
"wait why?" matt asked confused
"nick asked if I wanted to sit with him at lunch and I said sure" emma explained
waving goodbye emma walked into her next class leaving matt standing there with a defeated look on his face.
everyone was patiently waiting for the lunch bell to ring. emma, who was sitting there silently in her math class working on her worksheet looked at the clock on the wall and noticed that there was still about 15 minutes left until the end of the period. emma sighed realizing she would have to work on this for homework. math is hard okay. emma continued to work on the worksheet waiting for the bell to ring like everyone else. chris who was sitting besides her nudged her. her and chris had been in the class together the whole year. it wasn't until recently that she noticed the brunette. she guessed it might have had something to do with the fact of her friends, which to her would make the most sense.
"hey what's going on with you and matt it seemed tense earlier" chris asked turning her away from her work briefly.
"oh yeah! um...were chilling" emma told him
chilling?? really emma. she internally face palmed herself for that one.
"chilling? I thought you guys didn't really talk anymore?" chris asked confused
"oh yeah, that's why we were tense you know with the fact we decided nothing can happen with us" emma explained
chris was confused, matt had told his brothers that she didn't recuperate those feelings, were they lying? the younger triplet brushed it off because there's no way his brother would lie to him like that right?
"right...anyway do you know how to do this I'm a little confused on it." chris asked the blonde switching the subject
as emma showed him how to do some of the problems the bell rung signaling that it was time to leave for lunch.
as emma was packing up her bag alisha came up to her.
"what were you doing with chris?" she asked
"does it matter? it doesn't seem like you really care" emma rolled her eyes
"I'm sorry okay, unlike you I actually care about my popularity" alisha exclaimed with a scoff
"apparently your not sorry if your scoffing" emma muttered
"whatever, do you want to sit by us at lunch?" the brunette asked
"sorry I'm already sitting by people" emma shrugged starting to leave the classroom thinking alisha wouldn't follow her but she didn't stop.
"who are you sitting by I thought you didn't have any other friends" alisha giggled
"the sturniolo's and Vicky" emma answered simply
"why? camila will get mad if you do" alisha asked
"does it look like I give a fuck! she cant control me she shouldn't be allowed to, now bye bitch" emma spat before walking away towards the cafeteria.
