chapter 006 ━━━━ after all these years

the cool night air brushed against your skin, you stood alone on the balcony, the echo of the dance still playing in your mind.

questions swirled like leaves in a storm, each one vying for your attention, but before you could grasp any answers, a presence beside you shattered your thoughts.

turning, you found yourself face to face with the blond man from earlier, his eyes captivating in their two-toned neon pink and blue hues, shimmering like gems in the moonlight.

with a charming smile, he introduced himself as Aventurine, his voice smooth as silk as he inquired, "what is a lady like you doing out here alone?"

his sudden appearance caught you off guard, and for a moment, you were at a loss for words. but as you gathered your thoughts, you couldn't help but be drawn in by his unique gaze, sparkling with an otherworldly allure.

"i was just... taking a moment to enjoy the view," you replied. "the night is so beautiful."

Aventurine's smile widened, his gaze sweeping out over the city lights below. "indeed it is," he agreed, his tone warm and inviting.

"but even the most beautiful sights are best enjoyed in good company. may i join you?"

his offer took you by surprise, but something about the look in his eyes made you hesitate. with a small nod, you stepped aside, allowing him to join you at the balcony's edge.

as the male settled beside you, his presence bringing a sense of calm to the bustling evening, he leaned against the railing, his two-toned eyes sparkling with intrigue as he turned his attention to you.

"so, tell me about this friend of yours," he prompted, his voice soft and inquisitive. "the one you were dancing with earlier. Sunday, was it?"

you hesitated for a moment, grappling with the complexities of your relationship with Sunday. "he's just a childhood friend." you replied, your voice carefully neutral.

though every fiber of your being yearned to reveal the truth about your secret engagement, you knew it was a delicate topic that couldn't be shared lightly.

the blonde nodded thoughtfully, his expression betraying a hint of curiosity as he absorbed your words. "interesting," he mused, his gaze drifting out over the cityscape below.

"i actually met Sunday back in middle school. our encounter wasn't exactly... favorable, but let's just say we've been in each other's orbit ever since."

his cryptic words piqued your interest, prompting a flurry of questions to dance on the tip of your tongue.

however, before you could voice them, he turned his attention back to you, a knowing smile playing at the corners of his lips.

as he leaned in closer, the moonlight casting a soft glow upon his features, you found yourself captivated by the intensity in his two-toned eyes.

they seemed to hold a universe of untold stories, each one waiting to be discovered by those brave enough to seek them out.

"enough about Sunday," he murmured, his voice a soft melody in the cool night air. "tonight, let's focus on us."

you couldn't help but echo his words, the notion of "us" lingering in the air like a tantalizing whisper. "us?" you repeated, a soft chuckle escaping your lips as you searched his gaze for answers.

"yeah, us," he confirmed, his eyes shimmering with sincerity.

"i've been admiring you from afar for so long," he confessed, his voice soft and earnest. "ever since my eyes first landed on you, i couldn't shake the feeling that you were someone special,"

"tonight seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally approach you, to ask for that dance i've been dreaming of."

yet, his expression faltered slightly as he continued, a shadow passing over his features. "unfortunately, it seems Sunday had other plans," he added, a hint of disappointment tingeing his words.

"but perhaps it was fate that brought us together tonight, despite the unexpected interruption."

your smile widened as you listened to Aventurine's words, a glimmer of understanding in your eyes. "perhaps you're right," you agreed, the disappointment of the interruption melting away in the warmth of his presence.

you reached out to him. "well, the night isn't over yet, is it?" you suggested, your voice carrying a playful lilt. "and who's to say we can't make the most of it?"

as Aventurine grasped your hand in his, his eyes brightened with excitement and a flicker of expectation. with a smile that mirrored your own, he nodded eagerly, his grip firm and reassuring.

his touch was gentle yet firm as he placed his hand on your waist, drawing you closer in a tender embrace.

as he leaned in, his breath brushing against your ear, his words a gentle whisper laced with affection and appreciation.

"you never cease to amaze me," he whispered, his words were like a soft kiss on your skin. "just when i think i've figured you out, you surprise me with something new."

the morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room as Sunday stood at the foot of the bed, eyeing you warily.

his parents had insisted on staying over at your estate after the party, and now he found himself tasked with the unenviable job of waking you up.

"(Name), it's time to wake up," Sunday urged, his voice a gentle yet persistent whisper as he reached out to shake your shoulder.

but you merely groaned in response, burying your face deeper into the pillow and refusing to budge. he sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration.

he didn't have time for this — he had a busy day ahead, and he couldn't afford to waste any more time trying to coax you out of bed.

growing increasingly frustrated, he reached out to pull the covers away, intent on dragging you out of bed if he had to. but before he could even touch you, you surprised him by suddenly pulling him into the bed, your arms wrapping around him in a tight embrace.

"hey, what are you doing?" Sunday protested, his irritation flaring up as he tried to wriggle free from your grasp.

however, you paid no heed to his question, instead tightening your grip around him as you mumbled something incoherent against his chest.

he was about to push you away, irritation bubbling to the surface once more when your words finally registered in his mind.

"...spent the entire evening with Aventurine... wished it was you." you murmured softly, your voice barely audible above the rustle of the sheets.

with your confession, Sunday's heart skipped a beat, and his annoyance vanished the moment he realized what you had spoken.

he laid there for a minute in stunned silence, the weight of your confession lingering between you both.

his mind raced with a flurry of conflicting emotions as he processed your confession. just as he was about to formulate a response, he noticed the gentle rise and fall of your chest, the rhythmic pattern of your breathing indicating that you had fallen back asleep.

a soft sigh escaped Sunday's lips as he watched you sleep, a faint blush coloring his cheeks at the realization of the vulnerability you had shown.

with a tender gaze, he reached out to gently brush a strand of hair from your face, his touch feather-light as he tucked it behind your ear.

his fingers lingered as he studied your peaceful expression, a bittersweet smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"i hate how you still have this effect on me," he murmured quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "even after all these years, even after everything... i still care about you. more than i'd like to admit."

as he continued to watch you sleep, a wave of tenderness washed over him, mingling with the lingering traces of frustration and confusion.

despite his efforts to maintain his distance, he couldn't deny the pull you had on his heart, drawing him closer even as he tried to push you away.

with a conflicted sigh, Sunday reluctantly tore his gaze away, knowing that his feelings would only complicate matters further.

as he was about to leave, a small part of him held onto the hope that perhaps, one day, you would wake to see the depth of his feelings for you, written in the gentle caress of his gaze.
