I forgot how annoying moving through a crowd could be especially in snow! Usually in Paradise, we were the center of attention whenever we would go out for something. Now though, it's a bunch of strong Demons all gathered around and creating a near impenetrable fence that keeps us from the kids. That was the case, until I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Sarah.
" My Love, allow me."
" Okay."
I shift and let Sarah go in front of me. I felt a hand connect to each of my own and notice that now Sarah, Anna and I were connected like we were playing a game of red rover. My thoughts were interrupted as I felt a wave of sinister mana breakout in front of me. I looked at the source only to see Sarah smiling calmly.
" Sarah, I don't think this was the best way to do this."
" But it is the quickest, My Love!"
The crowd split down the middle and opened a path directly towards the kids. We ran up to the kids. The crying of the little girl grew louder.
" Bobby!"
She seemed to be calling the boy's name. What the hell happened to him? his leg looks mangled. Ah, there's a trail of blood from where there's carriage tracks shaped into the soil. They must've been playing, and the boy tried to take a shortcut under a carriage. Regardless, the kid isn't looking too good. His femur seems to be sticking out of his thigh, the blood is pooling around that area the most. I should be able to fix that pretty easily. With those thoughts in my mind, I prepared a Holy Heal for him.
" A Human!?"
A voice that had clear disgust in it caused the mob to quiet down and focus on me with utter disgust directed at me with their eyes. I had more important things to worry about at the moment than if the crowd would try to hurt me... Besides, even if they did, I had 2 women who're already pissed that someone said that while I was trying to heal a... If not dying kid, then certainly a newly crippled one.
" A Human!?"
The little girl noticed me as I walked closer to her and the boy she was crying over. She jumped in between the boy and me in order to protect the boy. He must mean a lot to her. She looked at me as if she were prepared to die. I thought it was a bit much for a child to have to go from crying to thinking she might die so I began to speak calmly and softly to her.
" Relax, I'm a Marquess of Diablos, King Warrick himself awarded me the title of Marquess. I'm only casting the same spell I used on him to heal him. I promise, no harm will come to your friend there."
My words seemed to reach the girl. Also, Sarah and Anna walking behind me while eerily watching the crowd seemed to help out.
" P-Princess..."
The girl took one look at Sarah and muttered her old status before she married me. Seems Sarah's presence gave her some peace of mind and she calmed down. I reached the side of the boy whose blood seemed to have clotted, and I cast the spell.
" Holy Heal."
The girl heard my words, and she looked on in amazement as the spell sunk into the boy like a sponge with water. The boy's mangled legs returned to normal, his shallow breathing became deep breaths of restful sleep.
" His... His legs..."
The girl started to cry again as she placed her hands on the boy's left hand as she still laid down. Suddenly the boy's eyes shot open. They were a light orange color, like the tips of a campfire. Now that I look at him, his hair matched his eye color. The girl on the other hand had pink hair and gray eyes. I wonder who these kids are? I mean, they're definitely Demons, they had 3 ears each, the boy one extra on his right side and the girl on her left. And they were only a little shorter than Wendy and Ellie. Or in another words, they came up to my chest already if I were to compare them to me. Not just that, but they're clothes. They're definitely Noble children.
" Big Bro... You're okay..."
" Tana, what happened?"
" You... You IDIOT!"
/SLAP!/
" Ugh..."
The little girl slapped the boy silly. He actually rolled on the ground.
" Ow!"
" STUPID! STUPID!"
The girl continued to beat up the boy. I couldn't just sit there and watch any more.
" H- Hey, if you keep hitting him like that, I'll have to heal him again..."
The girl seemed to ignore me.
" Hey, Sarah, Anna... Should we stop this?"
" No, the boy should be fine."
" Yes, this is quite common. Little sisters do tend to do things like this after all."
" I don't think I'll ever fully grasp the culture of Diablos."
" Max! Tana!"
A deep bassy voice that could shake the earth came from the right of us. I looked at the source of the sound and I found a Demon that was even taller than Crest. He must be 10 feet tall at least. The man had long flowing brown hair with 4 reddish brown eyes. He also had an extra ear on each side. Like the 2 kids had combined. The man's voice stopped the girl's rampage. The kids both looked at the man and immediately stood up straight.
" Yes, Father!"
" Yes, Fawher!"
The boy's cheek seemed to be impairing his speech. I channeled my mana again and began to cast Holy Heal. This was a mistake in the presence of the children's father.
" Don't you dare, Human!"
With surprising speed, the man charged at me. I channeled my mana to make a Barrier instead of a healing spell.
/BANG!/
/CRACK!/
" What!?"
The man charged headfirst into my barrier and was stopped, for the moment. He hit the barrier so hard, he cracked it. How much force did he run with?
" I won't let you hurt my children!"
He's still rowdy. Sarah and Anna prepare themselves to fight while Edmon just put his head in his hands. I prepare to summon Scarlet and begin to think about how to handle this situation after we subdue this tall bastard.
" Father wait!"
The little girl began to speak to the giant.
" Tana! What! You should get away from here before the battle starts!"
" No! Dad! He's a good one! He healed Max!"
" He did what!?"
I put down the barrier and let the little girl speak to her father. After she had finished speaking, a low rumble built into a loud quake as the big guy began to laugh.
" HAHAHA! Why didn't you say so, Human! Thanks for healing my son!"
" You're welcome, now then, I'm going to heal him again, so he can talk."
I channel my magic while the crowd and everyone else stares at me.
" Holy Heal."
The boy's swollen cheek recedes back to normal.
" Thank you, Human."
" I have a name, you know."
" Really? What is it?"
" Matthew Drake."
" MATTHEW DRAKE!!!"
I felt my entire body shift to the left to avoid the sound waves that came from the kid's father's mouth. I blinked and tried to regain my bearings.
" Yes, my name is Matthew Drake, the 2 beautiful women behind me are my wives, Sarah Drake and Anna Drake."
" ... I knew it..."
The little girl mumbled something. I couldn't quite catch it as now everyone in the direct vicinity began to kneel.
" Princess Sarah!"
The crowd called for Sarah. With that, a bunch of whispers began to fill the spaces in-between the crowd. While they were doing this, Sarah and Anna linked their arms with mine.
" Ah, they're at it now."
" What, Anna? What are they saying?"
" The usual, " why is she here?", " that's who she married?", things of that nature."
" Wow, that sure helps my confidence."
I look away from the crowd after Sarah's words, since I get the feeling, they'd just give me a headache at this point. Sarah on the other hand, was standing proudly while linking her arms tighter with mine.
" While my blood is boiling from the way they treated you, My Love. We must play our parts regardless. But one day... I'll have my revenge on them all."
" Calm down, Sarah."
Sarah was still seething. Anna tried to calm her down.
" I've already tagged all of them. We'll find ways to deliver justice."
" I don't think hurting them is the best way to change their opinion about me. But thank you both. I love you, Sarah, Anna."
" Hmph."
" Hmph."
Even though they looked away from me, I noticed that they tightened their grips even more and closed the distance between our bodies even more than usual while holding my arms. While this was happening, the little girl walked towards us. If they're clothes weren't a dead giveaway, then the graceful walk of the little girl definitely showed that she was exceling in her etiquette training. Frankly, she's probably better at etiquette and manners than I am. The little girl walks over to the boy and whacks him on his head again.
" You come to! Father! You to! Otherwise, Mother will be mad if we don't apologize!"
" Wait! You can't do that, Tana! I mean, you know how she gets if you interrupt her nap!"
" I'll wake her up this instant!"
" Alright, alright!"
I think I see who has the real power in this family. Once all 3 of them had gotten together they turned to me and bowed and said in unison.
" The Fallenroack Noble House of Sark, apologizes for the trouble we've caused, and we thank Marquess Drake for his help during our time of need!"
Oh... Now this is interesting. I resisted smiling to myself as a snowflake landed on my cheek.
