Dani and Wes were currently on the bleachers at the Casper High football field. They were waiting for football and cheer to end so that they could talk to the others. "So how did you guys get your powers?"
Wes sighed in thought. "Most of us got our powers the night of the explosion. A bunch of little kids waking up in a panic in the middle of the night to a loud explosion. It was very stressful."
"That doesn't fully answer my question. I know there's a lot of ectoplasm in this town because I can sense it, but that explosion seemed to only activate your powers not give them to you. If that was how it worked then everyone in town would've gotten powers as well."
"We're still trying to figure that out." The red haired boy suddenly moved to the side as a rogue football came hurling through the space he had just occupied. "There are way better ways to tell me practice is over than that!"
Dash yelled back from the field. "You always dodge anyway!"
Wes rolled his eyes and stood up. "Come on let's go before he tries to throw one at you."
Dani stood up and followed the older boy down the bleachers to where Dash, Paulina, Star and Mikey were starting to gather. "Where exactly are we going?"
"You'll see..."
Dani quietly followed the older teens... could they really be considered older teens to her now? They were all the same age in this universe. They were all so familiar and yet complete strangers, what do you even say to someone like that? Is this how high school will be? Oh how she hoped not.
The group stopped in front of a seemingly normal looking building. Something about its appearance unsettled the halfa. Looking around at the rest of the street Dani saw it looked extremely familiar, she'd definitely been here before considering it was Amity Park but something about this place felt completely off.
Wes walked to the front door of the building. His eyes glowed a neon orange along with his hands. There was a ripple in the air and Dani saw a familiar green sign and a giant metal monstrosity on the roof before it quickly disappeared. Before she could say anything Wes put a finger to his lips.
Everyone quickly made their way inside Dani tried once again to say something only to have her mouth covered by Star as a heavy pounding on the front door was heard. After several long minutes whoever it was gave up and the teens let out nervous sighs.
Moving the blonde girl's hand away, Dani turned to the red haired male. "Okay what is going on and who was trying to break in? Also what happened to Fenton Works?"
The others silently stared each other down before turning to Wes. Apparently he was the unofficial leader. Said teen was raking his fingers through his hair and muttering to himself. Taking a deep breath he turned to address the female halfa. "To answer one of those questions, that was Valerie Gray. She's one of us or at least she was..."
Dash put an arm around the ginger. "It's fine, babe, you don't have to explain everything. Although, " he glanced over at the shorter teen. "It seems like you don't even know why you're here. What were you even told?"
The teens started making their way to the entrance to the ops center. Dani bit her lip and avoided everyone's gaze. "It's starting to feel that way. Clockwork wasn't able to see much in this world and what he was able to show me didn't really make any sense. Are we going to the ops center?"
"Yes, the only reason we're here is to make sure Fenton Works is still safe and to use the Fenton jet. The fact that Valerie was sent after us shows we're running out of time."
"Time for what? Do you know where the others are being held?"
"Look we can exchange information on the way there, but we need to actually be on our way. Time is limited and I'd prefer not to waste it."
Dani nodded and decided to go over everything she'd been told before arriving in this Amity Park. Surely something Clockwork had told her was relevant. The only thing that came to mind was Dash and some woman being watched from a distance by Batman and the Nasty Burger explosion.
Everyone waited for the elevator to arrive in the kitchen. Most of it had layers of dust coating the surface. The doors slowly opened and they got in. After a couple minutes the teens arrived in the middle of the ops center. Wes immediately went to the control panel and got to work on detaching from the rest of the building. A slight shaking was felt before the ops center turned into a blimp and then a jet. Once he was certain they were flying in the right direction he put the jet in auto Jack mode. The red head made his way over to the female halfa. "Now then, I think some explanations are in order."
Dani sighed, how was she supposed to explain that she basically knew nothing? Everyone was staring at her expectantly, did she space out!? Why was it suddenly so hard to speak? Curse these Fenton genes and their inability to make small talk!
"You seem nervous so I'll go first. You already know us from your world but if for some reason you actually don't I'll introduce us. You already know me. The blonde jerk who threw a football at my head is my boyfriend Dash Baxter, the girl you saw get pooped on by a bird is Paulina Sanchez,-"
"YOU SAW THAT!"
"- The blonde girl staring out the window is Star Blake and the scrawny looking boy about to puke is Mikey Richards. I lied earlier when I said that I don't know how we got our powers. There was some kind of weird field trip when we were in kindergarten where we were taken to a research facility. What they were researching the difference between meta human DNA and regular human DNA. They took samples of everyone's blood and there would be random scientists showing up at school once a week for several months until some of the parents started complaining. It was mostly the Fenton's and Mikey's parents. That research was to find people who carried meta human genes but were dormant."
"So you're all meta-humans?"
Star spoke up from her spot at the window. "Not exactly, we carry the meta genes but they were supposed to stay dormant. None of us were supposed to gain powers. Those scientists popping up at school were only checking to see if any child with powers emerged and also to keep an eye on the only kid whose bloodwork came back different from even ours."
Dani already knew who the blonde girl was talking about but decided to say it anyway. "It was Danny wasn't it? He's the only one it could've been."
"Yes, they weren't sure why he was different and decided to keep an extra eye on him until they found out why. At first they thought he was a meta that evolved or an alien until they started digging into his family background, which wasn't hard. The Fenton's never missed an opportunity to let everyone know what they did for a living. Around first or second grade when Danny ran away from home for some unknown reason..." Wes mumbled the last part to himself, "Lex Luther paid a visit to Fenton Works, wanting the scientists' help in a new study. The study was about mixing ectoplasm with dormant meta genes. Why he wanted something like that is beyond me but the Fenton's didn't give in to his demands. A couple weeks later after Danny had been brought back home he was caught in an explosion in their basement. The news said he was lucky to be alive but the Fenton's knew otherwise."
The atmosphere was tense. Everyone stared out the window as a green and red blur flew by. "What was that?"
"Not our concern at the moment. I'm sure you can figure out how we got our powers now."
"I think so, does that make you half ghost like me?"
"Not exactly we can't transform like you can and we don't have that many powers either."
Dani was about to ask another question when the auto Jack spoke up. "Your destination is coming up in about fifteen minutes. Put your seatbelts on and keep all ghost weapons off safety mode! Stay away from my fudge!"
Everyone sat down in different seats. Dash clasped his hands together. "Story time's over, we've got a facility to destroy."
