S2 E27
losing my religion
"THE CHIEF'S MAKING US throw a prom." Maddison tells Liam, sitting on his hospital bed, eating a pizza. "And he's forcing everyone to go."
"Really?" Liam chuckles. "I can't wait to see your prom dress."
"I'm not wearing a prom dress, because I'm not going." Maddison replies, narrowing her eyes.
"Oh, you so are!" Liam replies, using his good hand to steal one slice.
"No, I'm not!" Maddison replies. "And that's so not healthy for you to eat."
"Come on." Liam smiles, leaning back with a goofy smile. "I wanna see you in a dress."
"Then picture it." Maddison tells him.
"I do picture it." Liam smirk. "Just without the dress."
Maddison throws a small pillow at him.
"Hey! I'm injured!" Liam laughs.
"You'll survive." Maddison tell him. "And you're not going to guilt me into wearing a dress."
"We'll see." Liam winks.
"I KNOW YOU, MADDISON." Chief tells the intern, as she sat in front of him. "I know you want to tell me who cut the LVAD wire."
"It wasn't me." Maddison simply replies.
"I know it wasn't." The Chief replies, crossing his fingers and leaning back. "Like I said, I know you. So, tell me, who was it?" Maddison doesn't say anything, making Richard sigh. "The Maddy I knew was only loyal to her career."
"I am loyal to my career." Maddison defends.
"But not only to it." Webber raises an eyebrow.
"You knew about it." Maddison changes the topic. "You knew about me and Dr. William."
"Yes." The Chief nods, slowly. "I did."
"How?" Maddison questions.
"Dr. William." Webber answers, making Maddison raises an eyebrow. "He was... concerned about your career and future if you were in a relationship with an attending. So, he came to me to clear his doubts."
"Liam told you?" Maddison asks. "Because he was concerned about my career?"
"Yes." The Chief replies.
"I'm still not tell you." Maddison replies, making the Chief sighs.
"OH, I'M TOO TIRED for this." Bailey says, as her, Cristina and Maddison stand near the drinks table at the prom.
"Where's your husband, Dr. Bailey?" Cristina asks.
"Yeah, where's your date?" Maddison adds, making herself a drink.
"Uh, at home with the baby." Bailey answers. "That you both would at least get to get out of this."
"Why?" Cristina asks, making Maddison hit her arm, giving her a look.
"Well, with Burke and Liam upstairs. What happened to them, I'm sure the Chief would have let you out." Bailey tells them.
"Yeah." Cristina whispers.
"Yeah, the Chief might've, but you think Liam is going to let go of an opportunity to guilt me into attending a prom?" Maddison tells them. "I'm going upstairs in a few."
LIAM FLIPS A MAGAZINE close, bored, he leans over to grab his phone. It was out of reach, making him stretch to grab it and he groans because of his stiches.
He flips his cell open, and dials, putting the phone to his ear, but the person doesn't pick up and it goes to voice mail.
"Maddy, I'm bored out of my mind." Liam says into the phone. "The foods terrible and I've read the same magazine like 7 times and you're..." Liam trials off, as he looks up because of the clicking sound of heels on the hospital floor, and sees Maddison slowly walking towards the doorway with a smile on her face. "You..." Liam slowly pulls the phone away from his ear. "You are looking gorgeous..."
Maddison lets out a little laugh, as Liam flips his phone closed.
"Hello, Dr. William." Maddison tells him, stopping near his bed.
"You look..." Liam whispers, a dreamy smile on his face. "So stunning... that I don't have words to describe it."
"Thank you." Maddison gives him a shy smile, sitting down on the bed.
"If I could stand up..." Liam tells her.
"I know." Maddison whispers.
"You look breathtaking, Dr. Sloan." Liam says.
"You've said that already." Maddison shakes her head at him.
"Not enough." Liam replies, making Maddison laugh and lean forward to kiss him.
"This would've been more fun if we could dance." Maddison whispers to him, holding his face.
"Yeah." Liam replies, pulling her hair behind her ear with on hand.
"Thank you for worrying about my career." Maddison tells him. "Even though you didn't have to." Liam looks confused. "The Chief told me."
"Oh." Liam lets out. "You're not mad? That I did that without asking?"
"Well, if it was any other day, I might've been, you know, a little more dramatic." Maddison smiles. "But, right now, I'm just thankful."
"I love you, Maddison." Liam tells her.
"I love you, too, Liam." Maddison smiles, as they kiss again, but get interrupted with the door opens.
"Uh-" Tyler, the nurse, lets out, as the two break apart and turn to him. "Um, I'm sorry to interrupt, but..." He looks at Maddison, concerned.
"What?" Maddison's smile falls. "Tyler, what happened?"
"It's Izzie." He tells her. "She... She need all of you. The interns."
"WHAT HAPPENED?" George asks as he joins Meredith, Cristina and Callie rushing to Denny's room.
"What's going on?" Maddison questions, walking up, as they all stop in front of Olivia.
"I didn't know what to do. I didn't think you guys would want me to go to the Chief but..." Olivia tells the interns.
"Where is she?" Cristina asks.
"She's in there with him." Olivia answers and they all rush in, and see Izzie on Denny's bed hugging him.
"Izzie..." Cristina sighs.
"I think it was a stroke." Izzie says, sounding distant. "He was prone to blood clots. A clot could have formed on his sutures and traveled to his brain. It only takes a second."
"Iz..." Meredith calls out.
"Dr. Hahn did a beautiful job on the surgery." Izzie continues. "But I don't know why I didn't think of blood clots. He died all alone. He was alone."
"Izzie..." Maddison says.
"There was nothing you could have done." George tells her.
"I changed my dress three times." Izzie continues. "I wanted to look nice. I would have been here sooner... but I couldn't figure out which dress to wear."
"Izzie. We shouldn't be in here." George says.
"Izzie, we should go." Maddison tells the girl.
"Iz, there are things that they need... they need to move him." Meredith tells her.
"Take him to the morgue." Izzie says.
"You can't stay here. I know you want to." Cristina tells her.
"Can you please... please just get out? I want to be alone with Denny."
"Izzie, that's not Denny." Alex walks in.
"Shut up." Izzie replies.
"Iz, that's not Denny. The minute his heart stopped beating, he stopped being Denny." Alex says, walking up to the bed. "Now, I know you love him, but he also loved you. And a guy that loves you like that, he doesn't want you to do this to yourself. Because it's not Denny. Not anymore."
"An hour ago he was proposing. And now... And now he's going to the morgue. Isn't that ridiculous?" Izzie says, starting to cry. "Isn't that the most ridiculous piece of crap you've ever heard?"
"Come on." Alex whispers, and picks her up, and goes to the sofa and sits down as Izzie sobs in his arms.
MADDISON LOOKS INSIDE Liam's room through the space in the blinds. He was resting, almost asleep.
She slowly opens the door, walking in and Liam opens his eyes, slightly turning to the intern.
"Maddison?" He asks, as she removes her heels, and throws them aside. Liam's eyebrows furrow. "Are you okay? What happened?"
Maddison doesn't say anything, just removes her necklace and puts it on the nightstand. She get on the bed wordlessly, and wraps her arms around him.
Liam looks confused, but moves over slightly, to make room for her, and hold her.
"I'm really glad you're okay." Maddison whispers.
Liam looks at her, as the girl looked exhausted and closes her eyes.
Liam kisses her head, and she snuggles more into him and he wraps his arms around her tighter.
