WE ARRIVED AT the restaurant, I'd like to say fashionably late, but I looked a mess. So we were just late.
We walked into the building immediately greeted by Leena, who gave me the biggest hug and complimented my entire appearance. I thought the girl was somehow even more beautiful in person. She was also just as kind.
I also greeted Momona quickly, averting the harsh gaze of Walker whom she was sitting next to, and I was forced to sit across from. I received quite a shock when I saw Ellie as well, seated beside Aryan, who gave me a warm smile and a shy hello. I promised to bring her Howls Moving Castle poster the next time I saw her.
"What've you guys been up to?" Leena asked, and we went around the table. Momona talked about visiting her Nonna, while Dior talked about her time on set as Clarisse, and recording her new music. Aryan talked about struggles of learning to walk like a goat, and suddenly, it was me and Charlie left. Walker seemed quite vocal then.
"Maya and Charlie have been super busy." He loudly exclaimed, a sarcastic grin on his face. I abruptly turned to him, glaring.
"Oh god." Dior sighed under her breath as Momona's eyes widened. Charlie choked on his water.
"Okay Walker, get it all out then." Aryan exhaled while Ellie stared at the boy, confused.
"Did you guys have a fun time sneaking off by yourselves?" He sneered rather kindly. "Care to share with the group what you got up to?"
I had no idea what the boy was speaking about, as nothing that extraordinary had really happened. Maybe emotionally, but certainly not physically. And I wasn't about to reveal all my thoughts.
"We went for lunch together. Then we went swimming." I explained slowly, looking directly at Walker. He didn't seem content with my answer.
"That necklace is new. Did you get it today?" He asked, cocking his head. I was beginning to catch onto what he was trying to do.
"Charlie bought it for me today. Against my wishes."
Walker ran his tongue along is teeth, nodding carefully. His eyes shone with envy.
The table fell into an erie silence. The air was thick with tension, Charlie watched me from the far end of the table with a concerned and confused expression. Walker watched me shamelessly, his arms crossed across his torso.
"So, Dior... when are you releasing your music?" Leena asked after a minute of awkward silence. I was grateful for the topic change, and Leena squeezed my hand under the table. Dior began speaking about her new single, focus.
"Send the demo to the group chat, please and thank you." Momo said to the girl. "Oh, May. Please talk about whatever amazing projects you have coming up next."
I laughed. "Uh, well, Dior and I are filming season five of the Marauders early next year, I'm filming the Family Switch in December, and Adam is directing a new movie called You're so not invited to my bat mitzvah. Oh! Also, my manager Mindy emailed me the other day to let me know that I've been asked to a movie with Milo Manheim, Emma Roberts and Brad Pitt called The Way of The World."
"You're incredible." Ellie sighed in astonishment. Aryan laughed.
"You are. I feel lucky to be friends with you." He added onto his girlfriend's words. I teasingly told them to stop being ridiculous.
We spent the rest of the night speaking of our plans and hopes for the future. Walker was oddly silent, shying away from everyone's gaze. I noticed, of course. I noticed everything about him.
We said our goodbyes to Momona, whose grandmother was here to collect her. Then we all walked back to the hotel. Dior and I quite quickly retreated to my room, eager to debrief the night.
"What. The. Fuck." Dior exclaimed, shutting my door behind her.
"He hates me." I remarked, covering my face with my hands.
The girl shook her head. "He doesn't hate you. It's the opposite. He likes you, and he's jealous."
"Then what's his issue!" I groaned. "Why can't he just admit it, and this would all be fine."
"For the same reason that you won't. He's scared of rejection."
"That's stupid. I wouldn't reject him." I gasp, realising what I said. I wouldn't reject him.
If he asked me, I wouldn't reject him.
I wouldn't reject Walker Scobell.
I like Walker Scobell.

I COULDN'T SLEEP. I had too much to think about. Walker. How I liked him. How pretty he was. How he was mad at me. I checked the time: 12:00. I sighed, sick of tossing and turning for the night. I got up, slipped on my uggs and went for a walk.
I didn't know where I was going. I just walked and walked, until I found myself at the building Walker and I sat atop that night. I exhaled sharply before climbing up.
The view was just as it was those couple nights ago. The moon glistened just like it had. The only thing that wasn't as it had been was me and Walker.
It was crazy how much the boy affected me. The shortest absence of him in my life made me want to go insane. I didn't often cry, but in that moment, I felt like I might.
Then, there was a noise. A head of curly blonde hair appeared.
"Hi." He said.
I merely looked at him.
Walker sighed, before he came to sit beside me, silently. He brushed his pinkie over mine. I didn't pull away, which I cursed myself for.
"I'm sorry." He inhaled quietly. "I was being stupid." I nodded in agreement.
It was stupid of me to be mad at him. Almost as stupid as it was for him to be mad at me. There was an unspoken thing between us, we could both feel it. I was mad because, for a moment there, I thought I might lose him.
I shuffled closer to him and laid my head on his shoulder lightly. He peered down at me, smiling softly.
"I thought about your question." Walker said. I hummed in response. "I think I do believe in soulmates. I believe that there are people meant for each other. People that are made to be together against all odds."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I do."
We basked in each other's warmth for a while. My concern from the day drifted away, leaving nothing but me and Walker on the roof top once more. Our pinkies interlocked, him playing with my hair. We had passed the line of friends. We could both feel it. Every word spoken, every step taken inched us closer. It took bounds of jealousy for us to know.
"Are we okay?" He finally spoke, fracturing the comfortable silence. I had to think about my honest answer for a minute. Are we okay. Such an open ended question. In some ways, nothing was okay. We had feelings, we had thoughts, and it was scary. We didn't know the future for sure. But in others, everything was perfect. We had each other. And although that was the most uncertain thing, it held the most comfort of all.
"We're okay, Walker."

"Oh my god." I sighed, pissed off that Brady was ruining the moment. I looked at Walker for permission, to which he complied, before answering.
"Hey May May." The boy greeted me.
"Hi Brades. What's wrong?"
"Oh fuck you sound tired. Oh! I totally forgot about the time difference! Did I wake you up?" Brady demanded. Walker laughed.
"No, Brady. I was already awake. Is there something I can help you with?" I tried to urge the words out of him so I could go back to spending time with Walker.
"Was that Walker's laugh I heard? What are you doing with Walker at midnight?" He questioned.
"What's the issue, Brady." I bluntly remark, to which he replies:
"Truth be told, I just wanted you to play roblox with me."
