Wang Yibo's POV

Three Days Later,

I slowly blinked my eyes open, squinting against the harsh glare of the hospital room's fluorescent lights. A light blue ceiling greeted my gaze, and for a moment, I couldn't quite recall where I was or how I ended up there.

As my senses started to come back to me, I realized my hands felt heavier than usual, and I glanced down to see them wrapped in bandages. A familiar sight of an IV drip in my arm confirmed my suspicion - I was in a hospital.

My mind raced to piece together the events that led me here. I remembered leaving the bar, the sound of cars passing by on the dimly lit streets. Then, a sudden blur as something - a car, I think - collided with me. Everything after that was a bit fuzzy.

Questions buzzed in my head like an annoying fly. Who found me? How bad was the accident? And when could I get out of here?

With a sigh, I closed my eyes, hoping a few moments of peace might clear the fog in my mind.

I nodded in gratitude as the doctor helped me sit up slowly, my muscles protesting against the movement. With his assistance, I managed to prop myself up against the pillows, taking in deep breaths to steady myself.

"Thanks," I muttered, my voice a little raspy from disuse.

The doctor nodded, a reassuring smile on his face. "Take it easy, Mr. Wang. You've been through quite an ordeal."

An ordeal indeed, I thought, though the details remained hazy in my mind. As I tried to piece together what happened, the doctor began to explain the extent of my injuries and the treatment I had received. It was a lot to take in, but I listened intently, grateful for any information that might shed light on my situation.

With each passing moment, I felt a little more grounded, a little more in control of my surroundings. And though I still had many questions, I knew that for now, I was in good hands.

"Dr, how did you know my name?" I asked, bewildered by the absence of my family and it was obvious that there was no presence of Xiao Zhan.

"Your name? Oh, it was in your wallet," the doctor replied calmly, disconnecting my IV drip. I glanced around, searching for any sign of Xiao Zhan, but found none.

"Mr. Wang Yibo, you're quite lucky," the doctor remarked, his tone reassuring.

"You have such a beautiful caring partner," I muttered, my mind racing with confusion.

"But where's he? Isn't he coming today?" He said.

"What do you mean?" I asked bewildered.

"Soon after we admitted you here, one of the people who brought you called him. He came within ten minutes, clearly worried about you," the doctor explained, his smile reassuring. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks - Xiao Zhan had been by my side all along, selflessly caring for me.

"He even donated his blood to save you. Since last three days he comes here at around 6 am and looks after you. He even brings his books to study here." the doctor continued, leaving me speechless with gratitude and guilt. Lucky indeed, to have someone like Xiao Zhan, who cared for me despite our strained relationship.

"He's suffered mentally as much as you have physically," he concluded, prompting me to reflect on the depth of Xiao Zhan's kindness. My mind swirled with emotions as I struggled to process the situation.

"They say I'm a mature man, but in family matters, I'm just a novice," I admitted to myself, feeling the weight of my inadequacy. Despite my legal prowess and professional success, navigating the complexities of relationships seemed beyond my grasp. My heart ached with the realization that I had failed to recognize Xiao Zhan's care and kindness until now. I realized that maturity isn't measured by age or experience alone, but by the depth of one's understanding and empathy in matters of the heart.

"Oh, look who's here!" the doctor exclaimed up, gesturing towards the doorway. I followed his gaze and spotted Xiao Zhan standing there, his eyes wide with concern as he looked at me. Seeing him there, a rush of emotions washed over me - surprise, gratitude, and a hint of relief - realizing that despite my earlier doubts, he had been by my side the whole time, silently supporting me through this phase.

"Come on in, Zhan," the doctor beckoned. Xiao Zhan hesitated for a moment, his eyes shifting between me and the doctor, speechless. The doctor pressed on, "Congratulations, Xiao Zhan. Your husband has regained his consciousness."

"Take your time to chat, and then come to my office, Zhan. I'll have the prescription ready for you," the doctor instructed before leaving the room.

As we locked eyes, I couldn't ignore the dark circles under his eyes, showing he hadn't slept much. And his skin looked a bit tanned, probably from all the stress.

"I'm sorry" for both said to each other in unison.

"I shouldn't have drunk that day," I admitted, hoping for his understanding.

"I shouldn't have behaved so harshly with you," he confessed, his tone softer now.

"I know that we've been married in a hurry and I'm much older than you, but please communicate with me. Let's be friends at least if not partners?" I suggested, hoping for a positive response.

After a moment of contemplation, he nodded. "Okay, we can be friends. But promise me you won't drink again and go outside like that if we have arguments again?"

"I promise. Thank you for taking care of me," I assured him.

Zhan rolled his eyes, feigning annoyance. "Take care! Of you! Why would I do that.... Nonsense!"

Suppressing a laugh, I teased, "You're too cute to pretend little Zhan..."

He scowled, retorting, "I'm not little, it's you who is old. You're an old man!! I hate you."

I couldn't help but chuckle at his outburst. "And exactly why do you hate me?"

"You're are... you're an irresponsible jerk. You could have died, you know!?!" he exclaimed, his concern evident beneath the frustration.

I couldn't help but chuckle at Zhan's outburst, finding his fiery response rather endearing. "You're too cute when you're angry, Zhan."

He scowled at me, his irritation palpable. "I'm not cute! And stop laughing, it's not funny."

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," I said, trying to stifle my laughter. "But seriously, I'll try to be more careful from now on."

Zhan huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "You better be. I don't want to have to save you from another near-death experience."

"I promise," I reassured him, reaching out to pat his shoulder. "Thanks for looking out for me, even if it means getting mad at me."

He softened slightly, his expression less severe. "Yeah, well, someone has to make sure you don't get yourself killed."

I grinned, grateful for his concern. "I appreciate it, Zhan. Really."

He offered me a small smile in return, the tension between us easing. Despite all the ways we clashed, there was this weird connection between us - like, we just got each other without even saying much. I don't know if it's true but I can feel it a bit.

"So, about the blood donation..." I began, wanting to express my gratitude to Zhan for his selfless act.

But before I could finish, Zhan's cheeks flushed slightly, and he looked away, a hint of shyness in his demeanor. "Um, it's really not a big deal. Anyone would have done the same thing in that situation."

I frowned, sensing his reluctance to accept praise.

He shrugged, still avoiding my gaze. "I just did what anyone else would have done. It's not like I did anything special."

"But you did," I insisted, reaching out to gently grasp his hand. "You saved my life, Zhan. And for that, I'll always be grateful."

Zhan finally met my eyes, his expression softening. "I'm glad you're okay, Yibo Gege. That's all matters"

"Wait !wait! Did you just call me Yibo Gege instead of Mr Wang or uncle????" I exclaimed.

"No I didn't, you misheard." Zhan said lowering his gaze.

"But you said it, and my ears are absolutely fine..." I pressed on.

Zhan seemed flustered, his cheeks turning a shade of pink as he avoided my gaze. "I... I guess I did," he mumbled. "It slipped out, that's all."

I couldn't help but chuckle at his adorable embarrassment. "It's okay, Zhan. You can call me whatever you're comfortable with," I reassured him, reaching out to pat his shoulder.

But Zhan quickly pulled away, his expression shifting to a mixture of embarrassment and defiance. "I... I don't want to call you 'Gege'," he muttered, looking away.

"Alright, no pressure," I said, trying to ease the tension. "But seriously, thank you for everything you've done for me. I appreciate it more than you know."

Zhan's cheeks flushed even deeper, and he mumbled something unintelligible in response, quickly changing the subject. It was clear he wasn't used to receiving gratitude or compliments, especially not from me. But despite his protests, I could see the hint of a smile playing at the corners of his lips.

"I need to get the prescription for you" said Zhan.

I watched as Zhan hurried out of the room, his steps quick and purposeful. Despite his shyness, it was reassuring to see him taking charge and looking after me.

As I waited for him to return with the prescription, I reflected on how much had changed between us in such a short time. From icy silence to tentative conversation, it felt like a small victory, as if I have won a case in court.

When Zhan returned, he handed me the prescription with a shy smile. "Here you go," he said softly, avoiding my gaze.

"Thanks, Zhan," I replied, taking the prescription from him. "I appreciate you taking care of everything."

He nodded awkwardly, then hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "Um... if you need anything else, just let me know. I'll be around."

I smiled at his offer, grateful for his newfound willingness to help. "Sure thing. Thanks again, Zhan."

With that, he nodded and left the room, leaving me to ponder the unexpected turn of events. Despite our unpredictable start, it seemed that there was hope for us yet.

As I tried to shift in the hospital bed, a sharp pang shot through my body, reminding me of the accident's aftermath. It felt frustrating, stuck there, unable to move freely. Every attempt to push through the pain only seemed to make it worse, leaving me feeling more trapped than ever. I sighed heavily, accepting the reality of my situation. Recovery wasn't going to happen overnight, and trying to rush it would only backfire. So, begrudgingly, I settled back into the pillows, trying to find some comfort in the stillness of the room. Closing my eyes, I let out a slow breath, trying to focus on something other than the discomfort. It was a waiting game now, and all I could do was try to be patient and let my body heal at its own pace.

.

.

.

I stirred from my slumber as I heard a soft voice calling out to me. Blinking my eyes open, I saw the doctor standing by my bedside, his expression gentle yet concerned.

"Mr. Wang, are you sleeping?" he inquired softly.

I struggled to gather my senses, feeling the heaviness in my limbs. "I was," I admitted, my voice hoarse from sleep.

The doctor nodded understandingly. "It's time for your check-up. Let's see how you're doing."

With his assistance, I sat up slowly, feeling the ache in my body intensify with the movement. The doctor proceeded to conduct a thorough examination, checking my pulse, blood pressure, and various other vital signs.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern.

"I've been better," I replied honestly, wincing slightly as he probed a particularly tender spot.

The doctor nodded sympathetically, jotting down notes on his clipboard. "Given the nature of your injuries, it's understandable. But we'll do everything we can to ensure your recovery."

After completing his examination, the doctor turned his attention to me once more. "I'll be prescribing some medications to help with the pain and aid in your healing process. Your husband has already gone to pick them up from the pharmacy next door."

I nodded gratefully, relieved to know that Zhan was taking care of everything. "Thank you, doctor."

He smiled kindly, his reassuring demeanor putting me at ease. "Remember to take the medications as prescribed and get plenty of rest. Your body needs time to heal."

With that, the doctor bid me farewell, promising to check in on me later. As I settled back against the pillows, I felt a sense of gratitude for the care and support surrounding me during this challenging time as well as guilty for being drunk like that night at the same time.
