i held a little boys hand down the hallway, leading him to a gurney.
i lifted him onto it, sitting him down.
"alright, simon" i smiled
"this is just going to be a tiny poke"
he shook his head
"i don't want to"
"well, in order for you to feel better, i need to poke you"
"but, i'll do it, not that scary doctor"
he nodded his head
"and if you do good, i'll give you a special sticker"
"how does that sound?" i smiled
"good" he said, nodding his head
"okay"
i put my gloves on, then took an alcohol pad and cleaned his iner arm.
i tied the tourniquet on him, then unpacked the needle.
"can you close your eyes for me, simon?"
he did so.
"what's your favourite animal?" i asked
"i like dinosaurs"
"the big scary ones or the ones that fly?"
"i like both"
i stuck the needle in his arm, attaching the vile to it.
it filled with blood.
"me too" i smiled
i took out the needle, taping a piece of cotton on his arm.
"all done" i smiled, simon opened his eyes.
"wasn't so bad, hey?"
i screwed the cap on the blood, putting it into a plastic bag.
once i threw the supplies out and took off my gloves, i reached into my pocket.
"it's your lucky day, simon" i said, pulling out a dino sticker.
"thank you" he smiled
"you were brave" i nodded
"i'll be right back, okay?"
i walked down the hallway, passing carter.
i waved the sample in front of him.
"you didn't?" he laughed
ten minutes ago, he was chasing screaming simon down the hall.
"you really need to work on your bedside manor" i cackled
"what do i owe you?" he groaned
"i have to think about it" i smiled
over the last week or so, i guess, more recently, you could say that carter and i were sort of involved with each other.
"did you hear about the april fools joke that backfired on malucci?" malik smiled
"no"
"he pretended to be a crazy patient but luka injected him with haldol"
"god, how much"
"ten milligrams"
"not that bad" i laughed
"no"
"he deserves it" i shrugged
"i'm glad i'm off, because if someone played around with me, i'm quitting"
"watch your back before you go out those doors" he teased
"you're going?" carter shouted as i opened the door to the ambulance bay.
"yes i am" i grinned
"i'm gonna take a shower and a nice long nap maybe ev-"
"shut up" he laughed
i shook my head, walking out into the ambulance bay.

as soon as i got home, i changed out of my scrubs and got into my bed.
i woke up an hour later to my sister on the phone. she was ranting about her boyfriend who she thought was acting weird lately.
i don't know, i just sat on my bed eating a bowl of cereal, listening to her.
i was now in the shower, rinsing the soap off of my body.
before i even knew it, i was needed back at the hospital for my next night shift.
i turned off the water, stepping out into the foggy bathroom. i wrapped a towel around my body, rubbing a brush through my hair.
i let out a sigh, wiping away the humidity from the mirror.

as i walked around the halls of the hospital, it was clear that this place just barley bounced back from some big trauma. either that or some april fools joke.
although, weaver didn't seem happy about those earlier.
"you're back, already?" abby asked
"yeah" i sighed
"carter still wants to know what he owes you for earlier" she smirked
"how about a month off with pay"
"i don't know if he'll be able to make that happen" she cackled
i rubbed my eyes "wish me luck tonight"

i went into an exam room, looking for the ultrasound machine.
luka was in there with malucci.
"what are you doing?" i whispered
"i'm glueing his hand to his face" he smiled
sure enough, he was.
i guess it was to get back at malucci for earlier in the day.
"hold on, what are you using?" i smiled
"dermabond"
i let out a laugh
"what?" he smiled
"that's gonna be a pain to come off"
