JIMIN POV

"I need to be out there." I bellowed, immediately going back to my sobbing.

Dalsu was gone.

He hadn't just wandered off
and gotten lost.

He'd have heard them calling.

He might get lost in his head when he's discovered some
thing new but he always kept
his bearings.

He was not that child who wandered off in a store or anywhere else.

And that left the thing I
dreaded most.

Something horrible had happened to him and I was
going to lose him too.

And fuck it all, I couldn't even help look for him.

And I tried, falling down and gashing my head instead.

Thankfully, the officer let me
go with Joon to their doctor—
who called himself healer so probably a chiro or whatever
but he stitched me up and
there I was, eyes blurry, unable to take a full breath and my
head about to explode.

"Sweetie."

Jin wrapped his arms around
me, his beautiful little one
asleep in a Moses basket I
could see out of the corner
of my eye.

He was perfect and safe.

I needed my boy to be safe.

"We will find him."

I wanted to believe him.

I really did.

More than my next breath.

But something was wrong.

I could feel it.

Call it dad senses or what
have you.

It was like he'd disappeared.

The feeling slammed into me halfway down the road.

Run.

That word kept racing through my head and it wasn't even
my voice.

Was someone telling him to
run?

Was that what was happening?

I didn't give any credence to
the stupid supernatural shows
I tended to fall asleep to on nights I came home late and couldn't sleep.

Now? Now, I was beginning
to wonder.

Did those psychics really hear things?

Could I?

And what did that all mean?

I very much didn't want to
think what that meant.

"Joon has got this." Jin
insisted, his tone so sure.

Like he really believed it.

"Jin, I need your friend for a minute."

The doctor—healer whatever
he was took my hand and
Jin stepped back.

"Come sit on this."

He tapped a bed, not a
medical bed, more like a
cot/bed hybrid.

It was soft enough to not feel
like I was in the hospital but
not welcoming enough to be
a guest bed.

Not that I cared about any of that but stupid little details
kept my mind from my
greatest fear for a second or
two, and so details it was.

"I need to have you take this."

He handed me a cup of what looked like tea.

"What is it?"

"It should help with your headache."

I drank it, the brew bitter with hints of spices I didn't quite recognize but which were
still somehow familiar.

"That's good."

"Drink it all gone."

I wanted to point out I wasn't
a child but that got me
panicked even more for my
child so I didn't.

Sip by sip, I drained the cup
as he did the tap-your-knee
thing with that little red
rubber hammer.

I always thought that was just
on television but he took it
really seriously and as I
finished the drink, he looked
up at me with a forced smile.

"Excellent."

He took the cup from me
and handed me another.

"Now, this one."

I didn't even bother to ask
what it was, since the
pounding in my head was
already subsiding, thanks to
the first one.

"I think you have a concussion but that should take care of it."

"Tea doesn't fix concussions."

"I mean, you'll be fine."

"When your little one comes back, you will be good as
new for him."

"I can't even walk enough to
find him." I hung my head and glared at my injured foot.

What kind of a father was I?

I couldn't even look for my son when he needed me most.

Jin's husband came in and started saying a bunch of things I only half understood about what they were doing to help.

He was an odd man, all
military like and then he'd
see his baby and his expression would soften and he'd go
back to explaining the plan.

And the odd part was—I
believed him.

He was going to fix this.

This almost stranger was
going to make it all okay.

What was that about?

"Jungkook?" He said.

I tried to focus on his words,
my head getting blurry from
the tea or not tea or whatever.

Or maybe it was the hit on
the head.

It didn't matter which.

I couldn't hear him well and
a few words later, someone,
not Joon, put his hands on my shoulders and laid me back,
the world falling away.

I woke up to the sound of the door opening, my head so
much clearer, the throbbing gone.

The pain in my chest somehow closing as I tried to sit up.

Like the hole was being
stitched back together and disappearing with every step
this person took into the room.

Trenton, someone had told
me the healer's name at some point, offered me a hand and helped me to sit, his gaze
glued to the bundle in the
man's arms.

Too small to be Dalsu.

Too small.

"Jungkook." Trenton tipped
his head.

He'd been by my side, possibly the whole time.

Which was how long exactly?

Minutes? Hours? Days?

"Trenton, we have a problem."

The man, Jungkook, held out
the bundle toward the healer.

"Is that Dalsu?"

All the possibilities slammed
into me.

Trenton took the towel and opened it up.

A dog?

He was here with a dog at a doctor's?

Was the healer a—

"You're a vet?" I blurted out.

That had Jin giggling in the background.

How was that even funny?

"I don't recognize the
pup." Jungkook told him.

"Not pack."

Trenton set the little animal on the floor then bent down and smelled the wolf—like deep-inhale-smelled the furry wild animal as if it was a normal
thing to do and then, stood
up and stepped toward me.

Jungkook growled.

He growled growled and not
in the sexy kind of let's get
it on growling either.

Like back-the-fuck-up
growling and Trenton did.

Jungkook stepped around the pup and to me and did the
same thing Trenton had done
to the puppy but to me.

Then he sniffed the pup as
well.

"Fuck." He muttered.

"Tell me what's going
on." Jin interjected.

It should've been me who
asked but I couldn't form
the words.

This entire scenario was too strange for words.

"Jin, this is your friend's
son." Trenton said.

"We weren't looking for a
human, as it turns out."

"We that is you and the
others, were looking for a pup after his first shift."

What had he put in that tea?
