We went out to drink after the celebration. Konting inom at kwentuhan lang dahil nagkasundo na rin kaming bumalik after an hour. It was a long day and most of us were bone-tired.

Kinabukasan, ginising ako ni Kuya Andrei at six in the morning.

"You guys told your parents yet?" Kuya Chris suddenly asked.

Kuya Nick nodded.

Respeto ba.

"I told them last night," sabi ni Kuya Travis. "Sa airport na tayo magkikita."

Honestly, wala akong idea bakit sinabi ni Kuya Travis na sa airport na kami magkikita. Ang plano lang naman, pupunta kaming Danasan.

We brought two SUVs with us dahil maarte ang boys at mas gusto ng mas malawak na leg room.

"Ride's gonna be long. You wanna sleep?" Kuya Travis asked me, sneaking a sideway glance at me.

I absentmindedly turned around to see my sleeping brothers in the back.

"I'm fine. I'm not sleepy naman."

Kuya chuckled. "Your eyes are drooping. Take a nap."

I ended up falling asleep despite myself. It was a quick breakfast and then we were back on the road. This time, hindi na ako natulog ulit. I was wide awake, taking in the surroundings we were passing by. I also took over the music some time kanina kaya ngayon, ramdam na ramdam ko na ang roadtrip.

The ride from Crown Royale to Danao was surprisingly long. The ride to Danasan took another hour kaya halos nine na when we arrived.

Since Danasan was nestled up in the mountain, the ride uphill wasn't the smoothest. It was bumpy, wild and everything rough. But the view along it was worth it.

"Malayo pa ba?" I asked.

I groaned when I saw the sign, 12 KM ahead.

"Ten minutes."

As soon as we arrived, I jumped out of the car to see Danasan for myself. In all fairness dito, hindi siya gano'n ka-classy tingnan. It was a simple adventure site boasting a vast stretch of land for different land activities. I loved the outdoor feels it gave off.

Pumunta sa may counter sina Kuya Travis at Kuya Onyx to settle the bill. Then, we were off to our first activity. We rode the ATV and toured around the place as a starter. It was green all around us. In more than one occasion pa nga, napakapit ako at kinabahan dahil muddy at uneven ang ibang terrain. But it was fun.

After that, tumulak na kami papuntang falls, sakay ng tractor.

This one's a real deathly ride. Jusko! Kapit na kapit ako sa tractor! After a couple of minutes, bumaba na kami para simulan ang trek. Here I saw nature at its absolute best. We maneuvered through slippery rocks and passed by some stretches of river. Luscious greens were also in sight everywhere. Huminto ako at one point to take a photo.

When I saw the first waterfall, my mouth hung open. Hindi siya kasing ganda ng Kawasan falls at iba pang mga falls na nakita ko na before but this one had gotta be one of the cleanest I'd ever seen. The waters were crystal clear and bluish-green in color. I took a shot before we trekked again.

"Mukhang mababaw lang," rinig kong sabi ni Kuya Paul.

"Mababaw nga. Mas malalim do'n sa pangalawa, lalo na sa pangatlo," sagot sa kanya ni Kuya Andrei.

Napatingin ako sa kanya. "Nakapunta ka na rito? When?"

"Last year."

"Daya. 'Di man lang nagkwento. Sino kasama mo?"

An amused smile spilled on his lips. "Sina Geon at Steel. And a few other friends."

Upon hearing the name, I automatically smiled. Kaya naman pala. Kasama pala si Angelo. "Sounds fun."

Kuya studied me momentarily. "Do you like Geon?"

I blinked at him bago tumawa nang malakas. "Where did that come from?"

Hindi sumagot si Kuya. Tinitigan lang ako. He was waiting for an answer while reading me as he did so.

"Seryosong tanong 'yan?" I shrugged the inquiry with a laugh. "He's your friend, Kuya. Of course I like him. Besides, naaalala ko si Kuya J at Lhyle sa kanya."

"That's it?"

"Oo nga." I tilted my head, smiling teasingly. "Bakit, magagalit ka ba if magkakagusto ako sa kanya?"

"Not really, but I'd advice you against it."

"Kasi you're friends?"

"'Cause he's exactly like Jacob and Lhyle."

"Ah," I said, grinning because I understood the reference. "Player. Parang ikaw lang. Don't worry, 'di ako pumapatol sa tulad n'yo."

"Dito na po," sabi ng tour guide namin kaya napahinto kami.

We started with the zipline.

When Kuya Paul did the Tyrolean, I finally understood it. Nag-volunteer akong mauna bago si Kuya Chris.

I gave a scream nang nag-slide ako pababa at biglang huminto. Then, doing what the tour guide instructed, I turned myself to the right direction, shifted my body into the correct position, and pulled myself toward where the others were. Yes, hindi siya yung usual zipline.

Next was the rappelling.

I felt nervous with this one.

This time around, I asked to go first.

"Careful," paalala ni Kuya Nick when I went forward.

I nodded and positioned myself.

The climb downward was tricky. I yelped when I almost slipped down.

"Fuck! Javee, easyhan mo lang!" Kuya Jacob shouted.

I looked up and saw concern crossing their faces.

Ngumisi ako sa kanila. "I'm okay! Madulas lang!"

I had no idea how I did it but I managed to rappel all my way down without any flair after that.

The boys went down next. Kuya Jacob walked up to me as soon as he made it down.

"Ayos ka lang?" tanong niya.

I shrugged his question with a hearty laugh. "Saya kaya."

"Tss."

We stayed there for a few minutes. My cousins were playing in the water while Kuya Andrei and I were documenting the scenery with our adventure cameras. After I was satisfied with the snapshots I took, I jumped into the water and swam toward where the boys were crowding.

Mathev placed me under his arm and dove into the water para lunurin ako.

I cursed when I floated back up.

"May pangatlo pa, 'di ba?" Kuya Chris asked Kuya Andrei.

Oh, right. May third waterfalls pa nga pala.

"Tara," sabi ni Kuya Jacob. "Lipat."

"Mas malalim ba do'n?" tanong ko.

"Oo raw."

The terrain leading to the third waterfalls was more difficult to get through.

"Cliff diving!" I perked up when I saw the formation. Agad ko silang hinatak doon.

The boys didn't waste any time. Walang takot na nagsitalon ang boys, with matching hiyaw pa.

Hindi pa man ako nakakaporma, may biglang kumarga sa 'kin. I shrieked when Kuya Jacob jumped down with me in his arms.

Water stung my eyes and filled my nose. I cursed when we resurfaced. Pinaulanan ko ng hampas si Kuya.

Bumungisngis lang siya. Asar.

The boys decided to stay there for a while. Do'n na kami nagtagal at nagpahinga.

Humiga ako sa isang rock formation to enjoy the warmth of the sun pouring down on me. It felt like pure bliss.

"Pagod na?" sabi ni Kuya Nick, umahon din pala. His skin was glistening under the heat of the sun when he walked over to me.

I sat straight and smiled simply. "Just enjoying."

He sat beside me wordlessly, both of us just chilling and savoring the moment.

Nanatili kami ro'n ng ilang minuto. Napapatawa ako kada naririnig kong nag-aasaran ang boys. Their laughter felt like music to my ears.

"Mahirap ba ang masters, Kuya?" I asked Kuya Nick out of the blue.

"Hm? Medyo. Basta dapat marunong kang magbalanse ng oras."

I tilted my head. "I dunno how you guys do it. Parang ang hassle mag-work habang nag-aaral?"

"Wala namang madaling bagay. Gano'n talaga," he said, sabay ngisi.

He graduated with flying colors, in fact.

There were two options.

The thought of going through a series of complicated routes and formations in the dark were suddenly terrifying to me.

I inched closer to my brothers when we reached the opening of the cave.

Well! Treading water, I was starting to regret doing this, but when we reached the center, all my thoughts instantly flew away. Holy wow. There wasn't much to see inside pero yung simpleng fact na nagawa ko 'yon plus the effortless beauty of nature made me swell with pride.

Ang ganda ng natural formation ng kweba. Nakakaproud. 'Yon nga lang, nakakatakot at mahirap talaga puntahan. But that's life, I guess. Some things are made to be difficult so we'll learn to appreciate it more.

After getting our fill, we went back to the tractor. Grabe! I should've expected this. The journey up was way harder than the journey down!

Kuya Paul helped me get into the tractor. My knees were shaking from the overexertion.

"Break tayo after nito," I told them and they nodded.

"Grabe. I'd never been happier to see food, man," Kuya Jacob said, taking large bites.

"Kailan ka ba hindi gutom?" biro ni Mathev.

Hindi na ako masyadong umimik. I was really tired and hungry and I intended to focus on wolfing everything down. There's just no way I'd miss that one kahit pagod ako.

"Wake board muna, bro. Baka dumami ang tao," sagot ni Kuya Onyx.

May dalawa din palang option para sa wake board: beginner's or advanced. Sa advanced wake boarding kami. Feeling experts at mas maganda din kasi yung boards. Tapos mas pinili namin na tig-thirty minutes lang kami para hindi maubos ang oras. Ang usual kasi, two hours. Mukha namang masaya. Nae-excite na nga ako, but Kuya Travis, Kuya Chris, and Kuya Paul sat this one out for whatever reason.

Hindi pa man nakakalayo, bumagsak kagad. Nagtawanan kami. He got the hang of it on his second try. Hmp. He made it look so easy! I knew for a fact na hindi gano'n kadali 'yon.

But look at him surf the waters so easily. With matching devilish grin pa 'yan kaya lalo siyang pinanood ng ibang mga babae dito, who easily recognized him dahil na rin UAAP season pa.

When he was done, the other boys followed. At heto pa. Yung mga naging pagbagsak niya, pakiramdam ko, sinadya niya na lang to make it thrilling, and even those looked graceful.

Nagpalakpakan yung mga nanonood pag-ahon niya.

We high fived when he went back to us.

"Daming fans," I teased.

He gave me a cool, light smile.

Sumunod sa kanya sina Kuya Nick, Kuya Onyx, at Gian. Doon na nagsimula ang katatawanan. Ilang subok kasi bago nila nakuha 'yon at sa bawat hulog nila, nagsisigawan kami at nagtatawanan. They were the real definition of epic fail!

Nangibabaw ang tawa ni Kuya Onyx when he tipped over again.

Watching him made me more excited. Damn. Hindi na ako makapaghintay sa turn ko! I felt so giddy all over parang gusto ko na tuloy unahan si Mathev.

"Dude, make sure you don't die!" sigaw ni Gian nang sumalang na si Mathe at nahulog kagad.

Mathev went up the surface and gave him the finger. We burst out laughing. Madali lang nakuha ni Mathev ang momentum, and in a beat, he was wake boarding like a pro.

I waited for another half an hour until finally, it was my turn.

"Sure kang kaya mo?" Kuya Andrei called out. Alam niya kasing tatlong beses ko pa lang nasubukan 'to. Technically, beginner pa lang ako.

"Kakayanin!" I beamed.

I jumped onto the board and held the bar. I gave the controller a signal, then he started the speed. In no time, I was gliding across the murky waters, screaming my heart out. Woohoo!

Ang saya! Wind through my hair, sprinkles of water all around me. My kind of day talaga!

When the direction changed, nalaglag ako—straight into the muddy water.

The laughter of my brothers and cousins rang out in the air as I swam my way up, laughing. Kaya pala napamura si Kuya Jacob kanina. The water was sorta gross. Oh, well. No matter.

I boarded again and tried hard to find balance.

Grabe. No joke talaga ang wake boarding. It was hard to restrain the water and keep myself above it. And it was even harder to keep my feet glued on the board. Pero ang saya. Wooo!

I was having too much fun at that point on.

After a series of matrix-like downfalls, nakuha ko na rin. Hoshet. Tawa ako nang tawa when I was done.

Tapos doon, nagpunta na kami sa rope course—and whoa! What a very intimidating thing. It was a series of aerial adventure na feeling ko hindi ko na kakayanin. The very sight of it made my knees go jelly.

I was tired and sat this one out. The boys decided to make a silly competition out of the course. Pabilisan daw, while I was standing there stupefied kasi parang 'di sila nakakaramdam ng pagod? Of course, Kuya Jacob won that one easily.

After that, we decided to take our last group photo there. Ayoko pa sanang umuwi dahil hesitant akong matapos ang bonding namin, but we needed to return na.

"Smile, dudes," I said, positioning the monopod above us.

Pumaligid sila sa 'kin at nag-pose.

I clicked the shutter.

And that ended our Danasan adventure.

***

My grin was wide when I joined the boys in the parking after washing up.

"Ang saya," sabi ko. "Worth it talaga."

Kuya Jacob snickered. "KJ mo naman. You skipped the rope course."

"Tingin mo sa 'kin, 'di napapagod?"

"You need to work out more, sis." He ruffled my hair which I swatted away with a frown.

We placed our bags inside the vehicles. Five p.m. na, ang bilis ng oras. Hindi ko man lang namalayan na papalubog na pala ang araw dahil masyado akong caught up sa adventure dito.

We separated into two groups ulit. Kuya Nick would be driving the other car naman.

"Early dinner daw muna tayo," I told my brothers when we entered the car. Kuya Travis was still the designated driver.

I took over the music ulit. This time, ang alternative rock playlist ko naman ang pinatugtog ko.

Kuya Travis' phone suddenly rang. Sinagot niya through his bluetooth earphone.

"Up ahead . . . Yeah, do'n nga . . ."

Nakinig ako despite my foggy attention. Yung kakainan yata namin ang pinag-uusapan nila.

" . . . We should, mahaba ang byahe . . . Gabi na tayo makakarating . . . North Coastal? Sige . . . "

Nagising ako sa narinig ko. North Coastal?

"Not yet."

Kumunot ang noo ko. "Sa'n tayo pupunta?"

"Oslob." As soon as he said it, a knowing smile curled his lips.

Nanlaki ang mata ko. Hoshet! Oslob?

"Huh? Isn't that more than four hours away?"

"Exactly the point." Napahinto kami dahil sa traffic. Bumaling siya sa 'kin. "Sulitin na daw natin 'tong road trip."

My forehead creased. Now it made sense bakit gano'n ang paalam niya kina Mom. "Luh? Ba't 'di n'yo 'ko sinabihan?"

He shrugged. "Surprise sana."

Huh. They planned this!

Despite being exhausted, another rush of excitement surged through me. Oslob is a famous place for their whale shark swimming. No doubt doon kami papunta!

Nakangiti ako habang nakatingin sa labas. Talagang roadtrip at adventure ang naging labas namin.

"Happy?"

"Yeah!"

Gabi na nang nakarating kami ng Oslob. The travel was more than four hours dahil inabutan kami ng traffic.

Now, we were headed to Tan-awan.

"May tutuluyan na ba tayo?"

"Meron na," Kuya Chris answered. "May kakilala ako dito."

Power of connections nga naman.

We rode some more.

The place was neat too, and I liked the bedrooms.

"Tara dito," Kuya Paul called out. "Binili ka namin ng Tequila."

Ngumisi ako at umupo sa sahig. Hiniram ko ang dalang gitara ni Mathev at pinadausdos do'n ang mga daliri ko.

"Anong gusto n'yong kanta?"

"Kahit ano," sabi ni Kuya Onyx. "Kanta ka nga."

I strummed the guitar. Kinanta ko ang paborito kong kanta, Tadhana by Up Dharma Down at biglang naalala si Racel dahil do'n. My cheeks heated at their attention.

I leaned back against the sofa and let his voice ease away my thoughts.

I'm very very interested . . .

I wasn't stupid not to understand what it meant. I couldn't rule the possibility out yet.

Also, ayokong pangunahan. Maybe he found me intriguing? I didn't know. Somehow, I was scared to know.

A disaster in the making.

I was happy with my family. I'd ruin that if they ever found out about my feelings. It was a petty crush for now, but in the future? Paano na?

I sighed in frustration.

I didn't want to be that rude. He didn't deserve it. And really, hindi ba't sinubukan ko? And where did that lead? Wala rin naman nangyari.

"What are you thinking?

"Nothing," I said with a yawn. "I'm tired though."

"You want to sleep?"

"Maya na. I wanna enjoy this."

I love the sense of calm and security they bring me. Ayoko sanang masira 'to. Ayoko rin sanang pagdamutan si Racel. I was so torn.

Hindi pa ako inaantok, but I wanted to rest na.

I took a quick shower and changed into my PJs. Malakas ang harutan sa labas. I could hear them teasing Kuya Travis. About what, I wasn't sure. Huh. I guess mamaya pa talaga sila matatapos.

I jumped into the bed and checked my phone.

54 messages

I browsed through, and butterflies immediately flitted in my stomach when my eyes went over to a familiar number.

It was texted a few hours back. Pinag-isipan ko kung magre-reply pa ba ako but I didn't want him to think that I snubbed him.

Unregistered number:

Semi-finals na. Our team made it in. Are you going to watch?

Me:

Sorry. Bawal :(

It was the main reason why I didn't bother to watch all of his games during elimination round, kahit pa yung second match nila against Intersci. I was afraid of the complications it would bring. Mostly, yung matches lang ni Kuya Jacob ang pinanood ko, and nakikibalita na lang ako online for the rest.

His reply came in a few minutes, surprising me.

Unregistered number:

I know. Just trying my luck.

Me:

Have a great game tho. I saw you play before, you're good

Unregistered number:

If only I can hear your voice while you say that.

Huminga ako nang malalim. Kinagat ko ang labi ko. Oh, fudge. Inaatake ako ng kilig.

I squirmed under the blankets and covered my grin with a pillow.

Me:

I hope you win. I'll cheer you on.

Unregistered number:

Of course. Now I have more reason to win.

We might face your team in the finals. Who will you be cheering for then?

Butterflies raged in my stomach. This was really not good. Nakakainis. Unfair.

Me:

Syempre kuya ko :p

Matagal ulit ang naging sagot. Pumorma na ako na matutulog na. It was late. I didn't think he was gonna reply pa.

But then . . . my phone suddenly pinged again.

Unregistered number:

Are you sleeping? Sorry, was in a game

Me:

Not yet. Game, this late?

Unregistered number:

Yeah, with cousins. Why are you still up?

Me:

Weirdos. Mm, can't sleep. Boys are still drinking

Unregistered number:

Justin said you're in Cebu

Me:

STALKER!!

But yeah. We're in Oslob.

Unregistered number:

Whale Sharks. Good place. When are you coming back?

Natigilan ako. Why was he asking?

Me:

Monday, prolly. Not sure yet. I never know pag sila kasama e.

Unregistered number:

You don't have classes?

Me:

Tues pa.

Unregistered number:

Alright. I'll see you then.

I panicked.

Me:

What do you mean you'll see me then?

Unregistered number:

It's late. You should sleep.

I heard voices from outside my door. Mabilis kong binaba ang phone.

"Tulog na yata," I heard Gian say.

"Check mo lang," Mathev called out. "She should see this."

Soon enough, footfalls sounded and I saw Gian come in, sinisilip kung gising pa ba ako.

"Good. Gising ka pa."

"Why? What's up?"

He smirked smugly. "You should see this."

I darted my phone a lingering look.

"Dali, matatapos na!"

I sighed. No choice and curious, lumabas na rin ako.

What I saw made me laugh so hard. Hoshet.

Sumasayaw sina Kuya Onyx, Kuya Nick, at Kuya Jacob. They were wasted and drunk and they were laughing their asses off while singing and dancing like loons.

"What the hell are they doing?"

"Mga gago, e. Lasing na. Dali, kunan mo ng video."

Dayum! Gian didn't need to tell me that. Bukas for sure, trending ang mga 'to.
