what happened

You drove me to your house with your hand placed lightly on my knee.
I couldn't see out the windshield because my tears were blurring my vision.
You still didn't know what happened.
When we got there, you lead me upstairs to your room and tucked me under the covers, wiping my cheeks and kissing my forehead. You told me you would be right back, and you disappeared into the hallway. I stared at your ceiling and replayed what father said to me in my head. I cried more, and this time you weren't there to wipe the tears away.
A few minutes later, you returned with your mom and dad. Your mom pulled me into a tight hug, which made me just weep more, and your dad sat at the foot of the bed with a frown on his face. You ran your hand over my hair as I embraced your mother, and when I looked over I saw that you were crying, too.
You still didn't know what happened.
"What are those bruises?" your dad said suddenly, coming closer.
As he inspected me, something clicked in his eyes. He hugged me tight. He suddenly knew what happened.
