𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐎 had seen the articles. of course he had, the articles that dragged her name through the mud with demeaning names, were all over his feed—not to mention he'd been sent them by confused friends and family.
his first reaction was genuine confusion, because claudia had already told him that her ex had tried messaging her and she'd blocked him—so he thought that'd be the end of it, but then the flood of notifications warned him it was in fact not the end of it.
clutching his phone tightly in his hand, he gently knocked on her apartment door numerous times, he didn't want to spook her so he took a few calming breaths to reduce his anger— anger not directed at her obviously—his mind ran at a mile a minute only stopping when the sound of a lock being fiddled with reached his ears.
the door was pulled open achingly slow, leaving the driver in complete suspense. a teary eyed claudia eventually came into view and his heart shattered.
his gaze swept her face, taking in the irritated red hue around her eyes and the red ring around her wrist— a habit lando knew she did when she was anxious. he grasped her red wrist gently, circling his thumb over the fading red ring.
"claud."
his utterance was airy, like he didn't know what to say and in essence he didn't. she peered up at him, every emotion she'd experienced in the past couple of hours displayed in her face.
he pulled her softly into his chest, his hand cusping the back of her neck, he felt her body shake slightly, her hand gripping his shirt.
the two stood like that till claudia calmed down a little, her grip easing on his shirt and her voice coming out muffled. "i hate him. he can never let me be happy especially without him...and now everyone's saying shit that i never want you to think of me cause i value you so much and-"
"-claudia. i know. we know what we are, and i know who you are. just breathe for now we'll deal with the rest of the world later."

claudia's breathing had slowly even out. lando would know seen as he was monitoring the steady rise and fall of her chest, from where she was resting against him.
after a harrowing hour, claudia was calmly resting soundly in the comfort of lando's arms on her living room sofa, a knitted throw blanket resting over her body, a gentle hand drawing circles on her back.
she peered up at lando cautiously, a dull pain in the back of her head. she was unsure of whether to speak feeling awkward and terrified of how the conversation would go, so opted for sneaking glances at him whilst the soft hum of the tv played in the background.
feeling her eyes on him, lando returned her glance, giving her a soft smile before zeroing in on her tied up hair and the slight crease in her forehead. the hand circling her back gently clutched the clip holding her hair, tugging it from her scalp and instantly causing a sense of relief.
he gave her another reassuring smile before opting to speak first, "the more popular articles are getting taken care of, don't worry about that bullshit their spewing anymore. how you feeling?"
"slight thumping in the head but aside from that...ok i guess. thank you lando seriously. last time i was this much of a mess was the night we met. you've always been so good to me."
lando kissed her forehead softly, his heart expanding at her words.

the pair sat in silence for a moment before her timid voice broke it, "he liked control. he wanted- he wanted me as a trophy. i had to do whatever he wanted, never anything as my own person, i wasn't allowed a life separate from him ever, he was dehumanising— he'd blow up. screaming at me, breaking up with me and then making me beg for him to take me back. i was nobody and he was the next star, it was awful—but niamh helped me, helped me figure out i was more than just who he made me out to be...and i left."

lando's hand that was not comforting claudia, formed a tight fist a deep sense of irritation overwhelming him. who did this guy think he was? treat her like shit and then to lie on her name countless times on the internet after she'd told him to leave her alone, invoking this wave of hate on her— was pathetic.
claudia sighed tranquilly against him, "my dad called me just before you came said he was gonna speak to his firm about filing a restraining order...and suing the sites and the 'source' for defamation of character...he's not letting this go."
lando chest warmed at the soft laugh that left her mouth, a wave of relaxtion washing over him, "and rightfully so, we had a similar idea."
