ten year anniversary rewrite of
The Other Ranger
Ten years ago, I began my Tolkien fanfiction journey with an original character by the name of Míril. She was my attempt at writing a Tenth Walker-esque fanfic that complied with book canon. It spawned a series now five books in, with five more planned and no signs of stopping beforehand.
But ten years is a long time in writing. I went from a teen who had ideas but no training, to now a woman with a writing degree and several publications to her name. I have never grown tired of fanfiction and never will. But ten years later, it was time to bring Míril's story into my modern era.
There will be changes beyond just an update to writing style. I'm so excited to implement them; they've been planned for years now! However, the changes will not make the sequels invalid, never fear!
I hope you join me in this long expected journey.
I know I did a thank you years ago on The Other Ranger, but I wanted to dedicate this fic to the other Tolkien writers I interact with most on here. Thank you for reading my works, or reading my crazy midnight lore rambles on discord. Both are just as valued to me!

Míril has patrolled the lands of Eriador in service of her chieftain Aragorn for decades. Raised by Halbarad, his second in command, she is no stranger to the forces of evil.
When word reaches Míril that Gandalf has gone missing and Black Riders have attacked the Prancing Pony, she acts once again in service of her chieftain alongside long time friends, Elladan and Elrohir. Or maybe one is more than a friend?
But nightmares of a deep ocean, blood on golden sands, and a shining white jewel begin to plague her sleep, causing the Wise in Middle Earth to fear the fiery blood running through her veins can no longer stay hidden.
Neither from Sauron, nor from Míril herself.
While this fic includes Silmarillion themes and plot points, it is written for a general Tolkien audience. All Tolkien fans are welcome: book, movie, game, and anywhere in between.

Chapter One will go live on February 7, 2024, in honor of my 5 year anniversary since my brain surgery. This will be a day of triumph over trauma for me, and I see no better way than to share it with you.
