something to talk about
"MR. HERMAN, I CAN assure you, you are in no way pregnant." Addison tells him, as she finishes examining him, as a photographer flashes his camera.
"Wooh. It's a relief to hear it, you know officially." He replies, as Addison leaves. "But hey, why was that stick blue?"
"Well that's what we're gonna find out." Liam tells him.
"Uh, Stevens do a shotgun work up, including tumor markers." Bailey tells Izzie. "And get CT to make some room for us in line.
"What's this for again?" Shane asks about the camera, and a pager goes off.
"Ah medical journals, monthly case reports." Izzie tells him.
"Annual banquet highlight reels." Cristina adds.
They both leans in for a photo, and the pager continues. Liam gives them a look.
"Ah hey! Whose pager is that?" Bailey asks.
"Um, um, mine. But I found him, so can someone else go?" Cristina asks.
"What do you... no!" Bailey replies. "We don't ignore pages Yang."
Cristina walks out, hesitantly, meanwhile, Shane looks uncomfortable with the photographer in the room. Bailey walks towards him with a measuring tape.
"Excuse me." She tells him and measures his belly. "Here. Just need to get to the top."
"We'll be finished soon right, Dr. Bailey?" Meredith asks, noticing Shane's discomfort.
Bailey doesn't hear, and subtly poses for the photograph.
"PREGNANT GUY?" GEORGE ASKS, as he sits down for lunch. "You had a pregnant guy and didn't tell me?"
"Well, we can get you floor space in the OR for 50 bucks." Izzie tells him.
"You're selling tickets and we don't even know what's wrong with him." Meredith says.
"Whatever he's got inside has got to come out. We're just brokering a few deals." Cristina replies.
"Sort of like backstage passes. Want in on the cash?" Izzie asks.
"No." Meredith shakes her head.
"I didn't need a pregnant guy! I was Burke's new go to guy." George tells them, then turns to Cristina. "But that's over thanks to you. He didn't know that I knew about you two."
"Stop talking." Cristina scolds, looking around and Maddison walks up, sitting down.
"This is why people don't tell you stuff." Maddison says, pinching his side, making him yell in response.
"What on earth?" Izzie mutters, as Alex wheels over a patient to their table and sits down.
"Hi..." The girl, Nicole says, awkwardly. "I'm Alex's charity case."
"Huh, I like her already." Cristina says.
"No, honey." Maddison tells her. "Alex's the charity case."
Alex gives her a dry smile.
"Are you volunteering?" George asks, making Maddison let out a 'ha'.
"Don't ask." Alex replies.
"Why? It's not like we can read your mind." Izzie says. "It's not like we have any idea what's going on in your tiny, tiny, tiny little brain."
"She has a point." Cristina nods, and her pager rings. "I am hungry!" She yells, frustrated and leaves.
"So this is cool. A real live lunchtime. In a real cafeteria with trays and friends." Nicole says.
"We're not his friends." Izzie says.
"Don't they have a cafeteria at your school?" George asks.
"I'm home schooled by my parents." Nicole replies.
"That explains a lot." Alex comments.
"Shut up." Maddison shoves him a little, playfully.
"So are you guys the cool kids around here or something?" Nicole asks.
"What would make you think that?" Meredith asks, reading a magazine.
"It seems like everyone is talking about you." Nicole answers.
Meredith looks up and notices people looking over and pointing.
"You want something to look at?!" Maddison asks. "Well, why doesn't one of you come here and I can break some bones?!"
Everyone turns away, awkwardly going back to their conversations.
"Someone get this girl some coffee." Meredith tells the interns.
THE GIRLS WERE IN the galley, looking at Burke's surgery. Derek walks in and notices Meredith and halts at the door, making Liam run into him.
"Why did you stop?" Liam asks, then notices the awkward looks between Derek and Meredith, and Maddison's look of warning. "Uhh, I'll be over there."
He sits down.
"Look at that." Cristina sighs. "Perfectly exposed partially numb beating heart. It's a beautiful thing."
"Code red!" Burke suddenly yells, making everyone look down.
"Is that..." Maddison's eyes widen.
"What in the..." Liam trails off.
"Oh, I think it just caught on fire." Izzie says, as they see the heart catching fire.
"SHE WAS ON FIRE." Meredith says in a daze as the girls sit on the stairs across the OR board.
"I have never seen anything like that." Izzie says.
"What was that?" Maddison whispers.
"A freak accident." Cristina replies.
"She was on fire." Meredith repeats, still dazed.
"Uh, yeah, you've already said that." Cristina tells her.
"I know, but, she was." Meredith replies. "On fire."
"George." Cristina calls out, as he walks by. "You okay?"
"She was on fire." George replies, as Cristina stands up, and Burke walks by.
"Hey that was intense, are you okay?" She asks the attending.
"I'm fine." Burke tells her, dismissively. "O'Malley, lets go."
They walks away and Cristina's pager goes off.
"I'm so over this." The intern sighs, walking away.
MEREDITH AND MADDISON WALK into Shane's room, where many people had gathered, taking photos and talking. Izzie and Cristina are talking money from people.
"What is going on in here?" Meredith yells.
"Yeah, why am I not getting a cut?" Maddison mumbles to Cristina, making Meredith glare at her. "I-I mean, everybody out!" Maddison yells.
"Out!" Meredith tells them.
"We already have..." Raj tries to say.
"Mr. Herman is a patient!" Meredith yells, and people start leaving. "A surgical patient who's sick and embarrassed! And tired of being stared at!" She turns to Cristina and Izzie. "You two! This isn't a zoo! Out! Out! Out! You know if all of you want to point and whisper and stare at me, knock yourselves out! Look at Meredith, isn't she sad and pathetic and heartbroken. Maybe she's gone mental, maybe I have! But leave Mr. Herman alone!"
Everyone rushes out and Meredith also walks out, kicking Cristina, Maddison and Izzie out too, closing the door behind her.
"You should be ashamed of yourself!" Meredith tells Cristina, and they all run away. Meredith turns to look at Derek, who was across the hallway. "And what are you looking at?"
GEORGE WAS SITTING AT the bar, next to him was Cristina, then Izzie and then Maddison.
"She yelled at you?" Joe asks them, referring to Meredith.
"Well, we probably deserved it." Izzie replies, counting the cash. "We sold 485 dollars worth of tickets to the surgery."
"Yeah." Cristina replies, smirking.
"Did you sell more?" Izzie asks them.
"Oh, yeah." Cristina nods, pulling out a wad of cash.
"You're out of control." Maddison shakes her head.
Cristina narrows her eyes at the other girl.
"Hand it over." Cristina pulls out her hand, expectantly, making Maddison roll her eyes, and hand her the cash from her pocket.
"You both have issues man." Izzie chuckles, and Meredith walks up to the bar and sits down next to Maddison.
"Hey, Joe." She greets.
"Hey." Joe replies, and everyone stays silent and just sips their drinks.
"So you guys really don't have anything else to talk about." Meredith says,
"No." The others shake their heads.
Alex walks in the bar and stands next to Izzie.
"What?" Izzie asks, confused, but Alex doesn't answer. "What?"
Alex grabs her, and dips her back and kisses her deeply.
"Good night." He tells the girl, walking out.
"Woo." Izzie shakes her head, breathless.
"Wow." Cristina lets out, as the interns smile.
"Seriously." Izzie laughs, taking a sip of wine.
"Well, that was..." Liam walks up. "Something."
"Dr. William." Maddison turns back to the bar, looking away from him. "What brings you here?"
"Yeah, Dr. McStunning?" Cristina smirks, leaning on the bar. "What brings you here?"
Maddison narrows her eyes at Cristina, but the other girl was enjoying herself too much.
"Well, Dr. Yang." Liam tells her. "Your friend over here, owes me a date."
"I do?" Maddison plays innocent. "I don't remember that."
"Well, I am reminding you." Liam tells her, leaning towards her. "And I would hate to think you're someone who goes back on her word."
Maddison hums, half turning to look at him.
"I would love to give you that date, but the shift was sooo exhausting that I don't think I can even stand." Maddison smiles, winking at Joe who chuckles.
Maddison's breath gets knocked out of her lungs as Liam turns her stool in one go, stopping with with his hands on either side of her, trapping her there.
"I don't think that will be a problem." He half whispers, grabbing her waist, and pulling her over his shoulder.
"Liam!" Maddison lets out, shocked.
"Dr. Sloan would be late." Liam tells her friends. "No need to wait up for her."
"Oh, we will not." Meredith replies, amused.
Liam walks towards the exit.
"Wait, wait, my jacket and bag!" She tells him.
"You won't be needing either of them." Liam tells her, and walks out.
The remaining interns laugh.
