"IT MEANS NOTHING, right?" Cherry tried, hating the way her heart clenched as she thought, at least, nothing to you. "We can just ignore it or—" Cherry knows she's rambling, but she's wanted to kiss Mattheo for so long, too long, yet this isn't the way she imagined it happening and what should she do?
Mattheo doesn't say anything for a while, again. He's quiet, until he opens his mouth. The words wrap Cherry in a protective layer that she knows she won't be able to shake off. "It's alright," he smiles easily, "nothing, right? My fault anyway, should've been watchin' where I was walkin'." He hugs her, like they always do, and walks back to the stage, leaving Cherry alone with her thoughts.
Fuck you, Riddle.
Her mouth curves when she remembers what he told her when she said that, once: 'I tried'.

Flitwick calls them in. They leave. Cherry ignores Mattheo, taking the long way.

CHERRY SMILED AT her friends — which currently consisted of Pansy and Luna. Luna had been a new 'addition', someone who'd apparently helped her in 'seducing' Harry ( Pansy's words ). Luna was lovely, that was Cherry's conclusion. They were munching on leftover heart pizza that Cherry and Pansy had baked. They were listening to Pansy's breakup playlist, with The Archer being currently blasted. It was nice, especially with Theo's text of support.
Luna chewed on some pizza, frowning but saying nothing. "So let me get this straight — Pansy, you're dating Gregory Goyle. He's cheating on you with Daphne Greengrass and you're cheating on him with Harry?"
Pansy winced, holding a strawberry. "When you say it that way, it sounds worse, okay..." Cherry stiffled her giggle.
Luna turned to her, half-laughing. "You're no better, Cherry," she chided. "You were in lurve with him, then you dated someone else — Hermione Granger, no less — before now loving him again?"
"I wouldn't call it 'love'," whispered Cherry, "more like ..."
"You love him," interrupted Luna. "End. Of. Discussion."
"...if you say so." Cherry did talk, sipping her apple juice. In the couple of days she'd been friends with Luna, Cherry had learned not to argue with the girl who was a maybe-seer. She'd even heard rumors about Luna's legendary "argument-winning" skills. "I'm tired," she yawned, snuggling next to Luna and Pansy, "Pans, you still haven't told me about you and Potter!"
Pansy eyes Cherry down like she was the devil herself. "I told you about me and Greg," she mumbled, but Cherry shook her head.
"You and Harry Potter, Pans, not Goyle? C'mon. He a good fuck or?"
"Cherry!" Pansy swats at Cherry's arm as Cherry and Luna laugh freely. "It's just, like..." she paused for a moment, thinking. Her head was tilted, and straight hair fell down in her back in a waterfall. "It's hard. I do love Greg, though I think its in a more platonic way, y'know? Like, we've been friends for so long. But Haz ... I dunno, Cher — he kind of feels like 'the one'?"
Luna laughs wildly. "Yes, Pansy, that's how love feels like. Do you feel like you'd jump off a cliff, do anything to save him?"
There's a moment's hesitation, before Pansy replies, "I do. I really, truly do, but the horrid thing is that I'd do the same for Greg... though maybe not at the same level." Suddenly, she looked anxious. "Suppose he's not really cheating on me?"
Cherry frowns. "Um... Pansy. He is." She didn't add that she had physical proof. "It's okay to love to guys." She ignored Luna's addition of lurve; they weren't that immature, for Merlin's sake!
"Yeah, I guess."
The rest of the night was spent cuddling under blankets and talking with each other.
The next morning, Cherry woke up first, and immediately went to text Mattheo.
