odette's pov
-MEDUSA, was talking as i hid my face in percy's chest. "if you have something to resolve, why not come inside and i'll help? alecto, will you be joining us?" medusa asked while everyone looked away from her. alecto didn't reply and instead just stayed hiding in her wing. "no? well i didn't think you would. she won't bother you as long as you're with me. but it isn't as though she will leave either, not if it means reporting back that she failed to retrieve the son of poseidon and the daughter of persephone." percy looked up at the mention of our names but i gripped his arm which made him immediately turn his attention back to me. "how did you..?" percy asked. "a forbidden child has been claimed, how long did you think that would be a secret?" medusa asked. when nobody replied she continued,"it's a pleasure to meet you son of poseidon, i'm medusa." percy then tried to look up again but i pulled his head back down while shaking my head at him. annabeth saw percy trying to look and said,"percy don't! she's a monster."
"we all choose who we make our monsters, but right now that one wants to tear you limb from limb.. and i'm offering you lunch, the choice is yours." medusa says as she walks away. when we hear the footsteps going away we all lift our heads up. "i think we can trust her," percy blurts out as let go of his arm. "what?" "dude." "huh?" percy then continues,"i can't explain it.. my mom used to tell me her story. and the point was that she isn't what people think. and i trust my mom so i'm going in, you guys can do what you want."
i take his hand and interlock our fingers and he looks down at me. "if your going i'm going perce," i say to him offering a small smile. then percy and i walk away towards the building, grover following behind. when the three of us walked in there was a table full of desserts, i immediately spotted a strawberry cheesecake and dropped percy's hand. i swear the cheesecake was calling my name. "you must be hungry. i left snacks out on the table while i get something proper going ," medusa's voice called out.
"you guys think it's safe to eat?" percy asked making eye contact with both me and grover. "perce, i'm not gonna lie.. that cheesecake looks really good so i'm ready to take that chance," i say while staring at the cheesecake. percy stifled a laugh and smiled down at me as annabeth walked in. "thanks for coming," percy said looking at annabeth. "this isn't the same for me as it is for you," annabeth replies, which made percy raise an eyebrow. he looks cute when he's confused. "why?" percy asks. medusa then walked in the room,"you're concerned i would hold a grudge against you simply because of you are the daughter of athena?" all four of us put our heads down and i searched for percy's hand, which he saw so he grabbed mine giving it a comforting squeeze. "you shouldn't be, we're not our parents after all. and you and i might have more in common than you think. please sit and eat," medusa continued. percy then stopped holding my hand as he pulled out a chair for me and we sat down next to each other. i then saw grover eating so i took some cheesecake and started devouring it. gosh this is some good cheesecake.
"so if your not a monster than what are you?" percy asked medusa while stealing a couple glances at me. "a survivor," medusa replied.
"you must move a little more than that," percy said while taking a cookie before continuing,
"there's a fury outside that seems terrified of you." i looked over at grover and pointed to the cheesecake and smiled big, he gave a thumbs up back. "because she knows what i think of her. i don't like bullies, so when one shows up on my doorstep they end up staying a lot more time there then they planned for. the gift the gods gave to me is that i cannot be bullied anymore," medusa told percy. that's when annabeth decided to open her mouth,"what my mother did to you wasn't a gift, it was a curse." gosh annabeth really loves to argue.. but with medusa? come on annie, i would at least like to eat my cheesecake in peace before i turn into a statue.
"you are loyal to your mother," medusa said while looking at annabeth. "yes," annabeth said, annoyed. "you stand by her?" medusa asked. "always," annabeth states with a slight shrug. "you love her?" medusa asked as i took a sip of lemonade. "of course i do," annabeth replies. medusa then proceeds to say,"and so did i.
so did i... do you know the story of how i became to be this way?" "i do!" the satyr says. "do you?" medusa asks tilting her head. "do i?" grover questions himself. "athena was everything to me, i worshiped her, i prayed to her, i made offerings." i looked over at percy and grabbed his hand that was rested on top of the table, and medusa watched the interaction. "she never answered, not even an omen to suggest she appreciated my love." she then narrowed her eyes on annabeth,"i wasn't like you sweetheart,
i was you."i squeezed percy's hand, nervous to where this conversation was going, and he squeezed back once letting me know he was there. "i would have worshipped her like that for a lifetime. in silence, but then one day another god came and broke that silence." she paused and looked at percy,"your father." which made percy look down and medusa continued with a voice that sounding like she was going to break down,
"the sea god told me he had loved me. i felt as though he saw me in a way i had never seen before. but then athena declared that i embarrassed her, and that i needed to be punished. not him, but me." she took a deep breath,"she decided that i would never be seen again by anyone who would live to tell the tale." annabeth then defended her mother,"that's isn't what happened. my mother is just, always."
"the gods want you to believe that, that they're infallible. but they only want what all bullies want, they want us to blame ourselves for their own shortcomings." "that isn't what happened. and your are a liar," annabeth said shaking her head. medusa turned her head and sniffed the air,"something is burning. odette sweetie, will you give me a hand in the kitchen? i think lunch is ready." i looked at percy before standing up,
"uh yeah, of course." and then i followed her out ignoring annabeths protests. medusa stood facing the oven and i tried defending annabeth,
"annie isn't usually like that.. well she kinda is but it's just because she loves her mom." "percy's going to betray you, you know?" medusa says. "no no percy cares about me, he wouldn't do that." i say as my stomach churns. "you don't love him do you?" medusa then asks me. my face turns red as i reply,"uhm of course i love him.
i love all of my friends." medusa chuckles,"no you love him, and the bad thing about that is people like him will always betray girls like you." i shake my head as she continues,"don't fall even farther odette, now go fetch perseus will you? i want to have a chat with him." "yeah yeah of course," i say as i take a tray of burgers and scurry back to the dinning room. "perce you have been requested in kitchen," i say as i quickly set the burgers down and sit down. percy nods and gives me and smile before he disappears down the hall.
"get ready to run," annabeth says as grover slips on red shoes. then percy ran in,"guys we have to go now!" "huh?" i ask as percy grabs my hand dragging me down stairs with everyone else. once we get all the way down fire spreads and i back up and bump into something causing me to turn around and scream seeing a statue. everyone whips their head to look at me, and percy hugs me whispering 'it's okay' and 'i've got you' in my ear as he strokes my hair. medusa was in the basement with us and we were following annabeth farther into the basement. "there's four of us and only one of her, if we split up she can't watch all of us at once." "i don't think that's a good idea grover," i mutter still terrified. percy why did you have to choose me for this quest?
"shush ettie it's a good idea. so the plan is i'll go in the air and draw her attention. so as soon as you guys hear me say 'maia' you guys will sta-"
i try not to laugh as grover starts flying away as he shouts for them to put him down.
"so anyone got a new plan?" i ask with a smile. the new plan lead to percy and i hiding behind a crate, i sat on the floor holding percy's flannel in my hands. medusa then began talking,"a daughter of a self righteous mother, who chooses self-righteousness for herself. a daughter a of a useless dumb mother who is just as useless and dumb as her. and you, you could've shown your father what it means to stand up for someone that you love. you could choose to save your mother, instead of doing your father's biddings. if none of you will help teach these lessons, then maybe you should be the lessons." the glow of percy's sword giving away our spot as medusa starts approaching. "when i ship your statues to olympus, maybe that will get my point across even better. stand up let me have a look at you." medusa says and percy jumps out with his eyes closed. grover then drops down making the perfect distraction, medusa looks over at grover who groans. annabeth then takes her hat off, and places the cap on medusa's head making her invisible. "now!" i yell as percy swings his sword decapitating medusa.
i immediately get up and hug percy, tell annabeth 'good job', and then help grover up. percy then was moving his foot around the floor searching for medusa's head, and when he found it he picked it up. "i'm going to go use this to kill alecto," percy muttered. "oh i'll come with," i say as i follow him upstairs. "make sure the head is pointed the right way perce, okay?" he nodded,
"yeah i can't die because i still haven't ki-" he cuts himself off as i tilt my head. "what?" "n-nothing can you open the door? my hands are kinda full.." percy says to me light pink coating his cheeks. "oh yeah," i open the door,"be careful perce i mean it." i give him a quick kiss on the cheek and then he goes outside. i bite my nails as i watch alecto fly towards him and flinch as percy pulls off the hat, turning alecto into stone. as he started walking back towards me, my pupils dilated and i found myself unable to look away from him. that's the moment i finally realized
