deny, deny, deny
"I DON'T KNOW." George tells the three. "When I left, Cristina said she was ok."
"Nobody goes what she went through and is totally over it by now." Izzie replies.
"Cristina can." George says.
"If she says she's ok, she's ok." Maddison shrugs.
"She's fine." Meredith adds.
"Too fine." Izzie replies. "She's cold."
"She's always cold." Maddison waves her off.
"No, she's hardcore." George says. "She's got ice in her veins. She does what she has to do to get through it."
"She lost a baby. She lost a fallopian tube and she's acting like she doesn't even care." Izzie rants. "She's all 'Hello, I'm totally fine person'. Ok, she's my friend too but she's acting like she has no emotions or warmth, like she's missing a soul."
"Okay, now you're just listing her personality traits." Maddison tells her.
"God, she's gonna make a great surgeon." George nods.
"George!" Izzie scolds.
"It's true." George replies. "You show no weakness, you make it to the top."
"Some people just keep their feelings to themselves." Meredith tells the group.
"Well, I'm going to get a drink." Maddison tells them and walks up to the bar, next to where Bailey was sitting, and turns to Joe.
"Joe, my man." Maddison greets. "You know it."
Joe scoffs out a chuckle.
"Vodka with ice tea." Joe replies, starting to make it. "You're so weird."
"Hey, that is an amazing drink." Maddison replies, and then turns to Bailey. "Dr. Bailey..."
"No need for idle conversation." Bailey cuts her off.
"This is why you're my favorite." Maddison grins and Derek walks into the bar, coming to a stop on the other side of Maddison.
"Meredith kissed me. Addison kissed me. My wife and my girlfriend kissed me on the same day." He explains as Maddison groans and slams her head on the bar.
"Joe, do my intern and I look friendly to you?" Bailey asks the bartender as he slide Maddison her drink.
"Oh, you're both tiny little kittens of joy and love." Joe replies and Bailey and Maddison make faces.
"Really?" Maddison raises an eyebrow.
"What? He saved my life." Joe shrugs.
"His first mistake." Bailey tells him, turning to Derek. "McDreamy, go sit by someone who cares."
Maddison chuckles.
"Oh gee..." Derek replies, sarcastically. "Everything's gonna be fine. Addison will go back to New York. Meredith and I'll start over, everything's gonna be fine. Right?"
Maddison raises an eyebrow, turning to look at Bailey, Maddison's face saying, 'can you believe the stupidity?'
"You so damn stupid." Bailey tells Derek, who looks offended.
"I WANT EVERYONE FOCUSED today." Bailey tells her interns, while making rounds. "With Cristina out, we're short an intern and I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those days. And Karev, see the chief by the end of the day."
"What for?" He asks.
"Do I look psychic to you?" Bailey asks. "He is the chief. He asked. You go."
"What did he do now?" Meredith whispers.
"Maybe he gave the chief syphilis." George replies, as they enter the patient's room.
"So we're in the middle of the Belizian jungle and this jaguarondi jumps out and bites one of the guides." The patient was tells a story and there was literally a crowd listening to it. "They all look at me. They're yelling, 'You're a doctor, help him!' This is one time a PhD does no good."
"I'm sorry, did I miss the bell for social hour?" Bailey asks, and the crowd leaves.
"Tales of missionary life." The patient tells them.
"You're a missionary?" Izzie asks.
"Like the position?" Maddison whispers to Meredith, who chokes out a laugh.
"No, my parents." The patient nods. "We traveled a lot. They still do."
"Oh wow. This stuff looks great." Izzie comments, looking at her stuff, and Bailey gives her a look, making her clear her throat and continues. "Um, this is Dr. Burke's patient, Kalpana Vera..."
"Kull-punnah." Kalpana corrects. "Named by villagers in Nepal."
"Actually, if it's a Nepali name, it should be pronounced Kal-pa-nah." Maddison tells her, and Bailey narrows her eyes. "But, what do I know? You're the missionary."
Meredith hides another laugh, as Izzie continues.
"Uh, she presents with a multiple syncopal episodes and ventricular arrhythmias." Izzie informs.
"So you've been passing out?" Bailey asks.
"Yeah and having palpitations." Kalpana nods.
"Past medical history of rheumatic heart disease with mitral valve stenosis." Izzie continues.
"They had to ship me from Zambia to the States for 3 months of treatment when I was 8. Rheumatic fever almost killed me." Kalpana tells them.
"Dr. Stevens. What are the primary causes of ventricular arrhythmias?" Bailey asks.
Izzie was about to answer, but get interrupted.
"Valvular disease, mitral valve prolapse, stimulants, drugs, and metabolic abnormalities." Cristina answers, standing in the hallway, with a hospital gown and holding her IV stand. Everyone stares at her in silence. "What?"
"Out!" Bailey orders.
"I'm fine." Cristina argues.
"Out!" Bailey repeats. "You better be in your room by the time we round on you."
"And when will that be?" Cristina asks.
"In 15 seconds." Bailey begins to count down. "14. 13. 12. 11."
Cristina turns around and exposes her underwear, making the interns laughs.
"Nice panties, Yang." Alex teases.
Cristina grabs the back of the gown.
"In your dreams, Evil Spawn." She spits back.
THE ALL ENTER CRISTINA'S ROOM where she was on her bed and her mother was on the couch.
"Cristina Yang. Post-op day 3 from a unilateral salpingectomy." Meredith presents.
"And ready to get back to work." Cristina adds.
"Is she?" Helen, Cristina's mother, asks, surprised.
"I'm taking solids and my pain is controlled with oral meds. I'm ready." Cristina nods.
"Didn't the nurse say this morning you had a fever?" Helen asks.
"Oh, did she now?" Maddison raises an eyebrow.
"Mother." Cristina groans.
"Cristina, did you have a fever?" Maddison asks.
"Temp spiked to 101 last night. Big deal." Cristina informs.
"She worked 2 shifts last month with a 102 degree flu." George tells them.
"Yes. Exactly, George. Thank you." Cristina sighs.
"And we appreciate your dedication but you're staying in bed until it normalizes." Bailey tells her.
"I keep telling her there's more to life than surgery and career." Helen tells them.
"Mother, go upholster something." Cristina replies.
"Look, I need you to relax, shut up and get better." Bailey tells her. "You're a patient this week so you can be a doctor next week. Understand?"
All of them start to move out, but Cristina pulls Meredith and Maddison back.
"Mer. Muffin." Cristina pleads. "You cannot leave me alone with her. I'm flying over the cuckoo's nest here. You have to save me."
"You just got out of surgery." Maddison says.
"Yeah. You need time to heal." Meredith nods.
They both walk out.
"I'm healed." Cristina tells them. "I'm healed!" Cristina groans, the looks at her mother, annoyed. "Oh, god."
"WHERE'S YOUR IV?" The nurse asked, approaching Cristina, who was looking through the patients file.
"I've taken solids. I HEP-locked it." Cristina tells him.
"On whose orders?" Tyler, the nurse asks.
"Mine." Cristina replies.
"Okay." He nods, pulling out her chart. "Yang. How about this order: 'Bed rest, out of bed to chair, bathroom privileges'. Nothing about stealing charts at the nurses station."
"Ok, you know what?" She sighs, and stops a nurse pushing an empty wheelchair. "Hey, hey! Give me that." She sits down. "There, satisfied? I'm 'out of bed to chair'."
She starts to wheel away.
"I'm telling your interns on you." Tyler tells her.
"Meredith and Maddison?" Cristina asks.
"Yeah." He nods.
"Ooh, I'm so scared." Cristina nods.
"Hey, has anyone seen my patient's chart?" Maddison's voice comes, as she approaches.
"Oh, shit." Cristina wheels away.
