Tw: Blood, medical stuff, periods, mentions of death.

Kix deserves an award for putting up with them all.

"Captain?" Echo rushed forward, throwing an arm under Rex's to support his weight. "Where have you been? You've been missing for a couple of rotations. People got worried."

"Where's General Skywalker?" Rex demanded, not bothering to answer Echo.

"I last saw him training with Commander Tano," Fives said.

Rex pushed himself of Echo and nearly ran to the training room, where he saw the pair of Jedi meditating.

"Hardcase, get the kark out of here," Anakin said without opening his eyes. Ahsoka's lips quirked upwards as Anakin sighed. "I've had enough of your pranks."

"It's not Hardcase, sir."

Anakin peeked one eye open and jerked in surprise. "Rex?"

Ahsoka gasped and her eyes flew open in shock. "We were so worried!"

"I got kidnapped. Long story," Rex vaguely said. "They're coming for you."

"Rex, slow down." Anakin got to his feet and approached the captain. "Who's coming? And for who?"

Rex threw Kara's satchel to the ground. "The Separatists want her dead." He motioned to Ahsoka. "Kara was supposed to kill her, but refused to. She helped me escape."

"What? She helped you escape?" Anakin raised an eyebrow, riffling through the bag. He pulled out a datapad and examined it for a moment before looking back up at Rex.

"She brought me to the base and changed sides, but she got captured by Coda, who's a traitor," Rex hurriedly explained.

"We'll prepare for an attack," Anakin assured him before his eyes flicked over Rex's wounds in concern. "Head to the med bay and get Kix to check you out."

"But I can help!" Rex protested.

"You're covered in blood," Ahsoka pointed out.

Rex glanced down at his body, sheepishly smiling at them. "I'm not actively bleeding. At least I don't think so."

Anakin pinched the bridge of his nose. "Go to Kix, Rex. That's an order."

Rex nodded, hanging his head in defeat. "Yes, sir."

Anakin and Ahsoka followed him out of the room before going down a separate hallway, while Rex headed to the medical bay. He grumbled under his breath as he walked about how he should be the one helping set up defenses.

"Rex?" Kix said in surprise as the blonde man entered, dragging his feet. "Ar- Why are you covered in blood?"

Rex hopped onto an exam table. "Let's just get this over with." He briefly summarized what had occured with Coda, Kara, and his kidnapping.

Kix rolled his eyes and squeezed a cloth, wringing excess water from it. "And you just let her get dragged away?"

"What was I supposed to do?" Rex scowled. "Put myself at risk and get us both captured?"

"You're a captain." Kix flicked Rex's forehead. "You supposed to problem solve."

"Do you know how many head injuries I've gotten in the last couple rotations?" Rex muttered. "It's a miracle I still know my own name."

Kix hummed and shone a light into his eye. "I've noticed."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Rex narrowed his eyes to hide the panic flaring in him.

"You've been slurring your words." Kix put the light away. "Do you have a headache of any kind?"

"Yes," Rex answered. "But it's just from hitting my head on my desk."

"You have a concussion," Kix bluntly said. "You need solid rest for at least a week."

"A week?" Rex repeated in outrage. "I can't sit around for a week!"

"At least a week," Kix corrected, pushing Rex onto one of the bunks he kept in the medical bay. "I'm keeping you here until I see fit."

"I can't!" Rex tried to sit up, but the steady pressure of Kix's hand on his chest was difficult to fight. "I have things to do!"

"Sir, as the team medic, when it comes to the health of the men, including you, I outrank everyone." Kix smirked and turned his back to Rex as he went in search of medication. "Now get out of your armour."

Rex grumbled, but peeled the plastoid off until he was in his blacks. "I want it put on record I'm not happy to be here."

"Uh huh."

"And I want another pillow."

"Sure."

"And a fresh set of blacks. This one has a hole in it."

Kix ruffled Rex's hair, which had begun to grow out slightly. "Anything for my sickly little patient."

"That's it." Rex tried to get up, but was shoved down again.

"No. You're staying here." Kix covered Rex with the blankets. "I'll get you some juice."

"I don't want juice."

"You're getting some."

Rex was suddenly holding a cup filled with purple liquid. "What the kriff is this?"

"Juice. Enjoy." Kix wandered off to find the other pillow Rex requested.

Rex sipped at it. He placed it on the table next to the bed and pretended it wasn't there.

About a minute went by before he drained the cup completely.

"How's my patient doing?" Kix asked, hours later.

"Fine," Rex curtly said.

Kix laughed under his breath. "You really hate being here, don't you?"

"I could be helping!" Rex huffed. "I could be doing something!"

Kix leaned in close. "You didn't hear this from me, okay?"

Rex raised a brow. "Alright," he agreed.

"They used the information on Kara's datapad to find the base and a way in. They launched an attack a couple hours ago," Kix whispered. "You're not supposed to know, or you'd be trying to help. It's too late for you to do anything now, though."

"How did it go?" Rex eagerly inquired

Kix shrugged. "That's all I know."

"Is that why you're preparing extra bunks?" Rex softly asked.

Kix pressed his lips together and sighed. "Yes. I already have three confirmed injuries."

"And?" Rex prompted.

"Five deaths." Kix flashed Rex a weak smile. "At least they got Kara out."

Rex perked up. "They rescued her?"

Kix nodded. "Apparently she's pretty beat up. She's cooperating and willingly being taken back. Seems like she really did change sides."

Rex beamed with pride. "I knew it."

"They're back." Kix was flying around the medical bay, pulling out supplies and cleaning surfaces.

"How'd it go?" Rex asked.

"You can ask them yourself." Kix motioned to Anakin and Ahsoka, who were assisting in carrying the wounded in.

"General Skywalker," Rex called.

Anakin's face split into a grin and he walked over. "It was a success! We destroyed the base!"

"What about General Madden? And Coda?" Rex questioned.

"General Madden is over there." Anakin pointed to Fives and Echo. In their arms was Kara, unconscious. "And we couldn't locate Coda. He either escaped or was killed when the abse was blown up."

"So we'll be headed elsewhere soon?" Rex followed Kara with his eyes as he spoke.

"We're returning to Coruscant. I'm to speak to Master Kenobi, and General Madden will be trailed for her crimes."

Kara was placed in the bed next to Rex's. She was covered in blood and her face was screwed up in pain.

"What's wrong with her?" Rex worriedly asked.

"She was mostly just complaining about period cramps." Anakin chuckled. "Seems like they tortured her, though."

"She'll be fine," Kix said as he whizzed by.

Rex let his head fall back against the pillow with a sigh of relief.

Unedited. I'll get to it later.
