Andrew's POV
I counted the seconds as she stood there in shock staring at me as I slowly got off the window and approached her. She has been gone all all day and I've been waiting for her for hours, I even made a reservation for us as a surprise but now it's too late. She must have been with that son of a b*tch Mason.
I've been by the window since, waiting for her to notice my presence but she was too busy looking for something in the computer and arranging the books I bought specially for her. She seemed to have loved them until she found out it was from me, I could feel it.
"What are you doing here??" She looked at me with suspicion "how did you even get in?"
"The windows were open" I lied, I actually picked the lock and opened it
"Strange, I could have sworn they were locked" she looked confused and moved steps away from me
Here's the thing about me, the littlest of things a person does I notice and body language is something I am basically an expert at, more so is how to get in someone's head. My mother, who is one of the most renowned psychologist taught me a lot. Now, I hate that skill especially when I read Amelia. She doesn't want to be near me, it's clear that she doesn't feel comfortable around me or trust me whatsoever and if I don't handle this properly she probably wouldn't keep the birthday gift
"Before you refuse anything, I'll make my day I'd you kept the gift, I've been waiting for you for hours, don't make my wait go in vain" that's it, I've struck that feeling of obligatory acceptance
"Ummm.... But you really did need to.."
"Yes, I wanted too" I took steps towards her but she subconsciously took steps away "goodnight Amelia, Happy birthday" I whispered in her ear, took one large step, hugged her and walked away
It hurt. She didn't return the hug.
Amelia's POV
That night after taking a shower and wearing my night gown, I removed the bracelet and placed it in my jewelry box. For a moment I sat down questioning myself for accepting it but I had to just shake it off. I sat in bed replying to my brothers messages and also to that of my friends in the group chat. Once I was done, I placed my phone on the side table and picked up one of the books Andrew got me and just like clockwork I heard a cling notification sound and it was him
Andrew: Heyyy Lia 👋
Me: um hi? Why Lia?
Andrew: Isn't that what your mom calls you?
Me: yeah but how do you know that
Andrew: I know a lot about you, this happens to be one of them
Me: interesting. I have a question
Andrew: Go ahead
Me: these books, how did you know I loved them? I could have sworn these are the exact same books I picked up in the bookshop a few weeks ago
Andrew: yeahhhh that's true, would you believe me if I said it was just a coincidence?
Me: no I wouldn't
Andrew: well then you'd be right not to believe me but...
Andrew: I'll still say it was a coincidence, just our universe colliding
Whatever this is, I don't like it.
Andrew: Lia 👋 you there?
Me: could you not call me that?
Andrew: ouch.... Okay
Andrew: Anyway, goodnight and happy birthday once more
Me: goodnight
Me: Wait!
Andrew: Yes?
Me: How did you even know today was my birthday???
Andrew: As I said, I know a lot about you
Me: why and how?
Andrew: 😂😂😂
Andrew: you'll know when the time is right, goodnight Amelia
Me: fine! Be like that, not that I care
Andrew: goodnight Lia
Ugh! I shut the phone down and tossed it at the beanbag by my bed. Who the hell does this guy think he is? Does he think he's cool and mysterious because of this trashy games his playing? If he things so, he is deeply, terribly, treacherously mistaken! I heard another notification ring on the phone, it's probably him! Ugh! I should probably block his contact, but wouldn't that be rude? He didn't to anything wrong anyway. I ignored the notification and went to bed with hopes that tomorrow will be a beautiful day
The next morning I woke up to my mom's voice, I opened my eyes to see her opening the curtains letting the sun rays bite my eyes. It looks so sunny today so I pulled the duvet and covered it over my face but she wouldn't have that
"Wake up Lia! Do you know what time it is???" Mother ranted as I rolled on the bed "it's past noon already, and the cake won't eat itself, get downstairs soon!"
The left the room and guess what, she left the door open. What's with parents and doing that???? I got off bed, took a shower and changed out of my nightgown into casual houseware and went downstairs for breakfast.... Lunch actually. I saw my mom in the kitchen standing by the island with the cake in front of her, she had already lit the candles and got the knife set by the side.
She clicked some buttons on her computer and faced the screen to me. It was my three brothers in a zoom call, right when I was about to laugh at their virtual presence, they began to sing me the dreaded and most awkward song ever! The happy birthday song. I had to stand there like a statue looking around awkward as they sang the song treacherously slow. Once that nightmare was over, I blew the candle after I made my wish
Dear God, my only wish is that you answer all my prayers so long as they are good for me and give me better if the prayers I pray for are not in my interest.
Mother called and my brothers yelled through the screen; I cut the cake and fed some to mother while she did the same to me. What a wholesome morning.... Afternoon. Today seems to already start on a Happy note. Mother took out a wrapped up hamper and placed it on the island after shifting the cake. She pulled out four distinctive boxes and introduced them to me
"This is from me" she pointed at a box wrapped in pink wrapping paper, it was the size of a jewelry box. "These three are from your brothers" she pointed at the three boxes all wrapped in red wrapping paper
"Thank you so much!" I hugged mother and blew kisses to my brothers through the computer
I unwrapped the jewelry box and found a beautiful marine blue pendant, it looked gorgeous. Breathtaking. The most beautiful necklace I've laid my eyes on
"It's beautiful" I whispered
"It'll look even more beautiful on you" mother smiled "you see that" she eyes the beautiful gemstones on the necklace "amethyst, so do keep this very safe"
While I sat admiring it, I could hear my brothers oohing and ahhing in the background. It's so typical of mother to get this for me, birthday are usually the only times she goes all out in getting me expensive things. It's almost like she saves for this day and gives it all for one day. It's such a shame we didn't get to spend my birthday on my birthday. But, I still don't regret spending it all with Mason. This will have to do.
The next three boxes contained a dress, perfume and a two pairs of shoes. They were perfect. I thanked my brothers and mom one more and took everything up to my room. On my last trip downstairs, mother reminded me of my lunch which was in the oven as she took a phone call
"I'm going to be off Lia" she grabbed the car keys
"Alright mom, safe journey"
"One more thing before I go, next week Saturday, a new friend of mine invited me to dinner at her place" she put the call in hold and continued "you'll be coming with me, if you can't find a dress to go with that's fine, well go shopping before hand"
"Alright mom, that sounds fun" it actually did, I and my mom rarely visited her friends for dinner "who is this new friend of yours?"
"She's such a sweetheart, I'll tell you more about her later when I'm back" she grabbed her coat and opened the front door as a I followed "I have to go now" she was sitting in the car as she waved me goodbye and started driving out
"Bye" I waved back and watched the car disappear into the streets and off north
I walked back in the house and closed the door behind me. Where's my phone?
