"Have you ID'd the body?" Hotch asks.

"It's a girl." The detective says.

"One of the missing girls?" Hotch asks.

"All I can tell you right now is it's a girl." He says.

"Did you draw up a list of those involved in the search?" Derek asks.

"You're gonna find the parents of the girls on that list." The detective says.

"Tell me they didn't discover the body." Emily pleads.

"No. As soon as our dogs caught her scent, we kept them away from the scene."

"She'd been missing 18 hours?" Spencer asks.

"That's correct. We found the body 5 hours ago."

"The parents have been here all this time?" JJ asks.

"Yeah, and I'm running out of excuses." The detective says.

"I'm gonna go talk to them." JJ says.

"JJ, I'll come with you." Derek says, following her off.

"I gotta be honest, guys. I'm glad you're all here. Because I have never seen anything like that." The detective says.

"Her face and her hands have been obliterated." Hotch says.

"Developed bruises, cuts, layer upon layer." Emily points out.

"Bindings cut deep into her flesh." Spencer notes.

"Around her neck there's heavy bruising. She was strangled to death." Emily states.

"A belt was used. You can see the indentation marks of a buckle." Spencer says.

"But why destroy her hands and face?" The detective asks.

"It indicates she knew the attacker." Hotch says.

"By destroying her ID, they're hoping to delay you making a connection between the victim and the unsub." Rossi says.

"It gives him time to get away." Hotch says.

"Do you think the other girl's still alive?"

"Until we find her body, we should assume she is." Rossi says.

"One thing's for sure -- this is only the dump site. We need to figure out where she was killed." Hotch says.

"And which girl we're looking for." Rossi adds.

+++

Penelope finishes playing the tape.

"It lasts exactly 53 seconds, and then it goes dead." She states. "I think she was strangled."

"What do you want to do?" Derek asks.

"Do? There's nothing else to do -- the parents can ID the voice." Rossi says.

"Are you serious?" Emily asks.

"That-- that's not-- no." Bedelia argues.

"No, no, sir, they can never hear this." Penelope argues.

"It'll be the fastest way to figure out who we're looking for." Rossi says.

"There's gotta be another way." Emily insists.

"DNA?" The detective asks.

+++

"Our feeling is by the time we got the results back, it would be too late to save whoever they still have." Hotch tells the parents and Jack's friend. "It's up to you."

"This message. What did it record?" Jack asks.

"It's the... last moments of one of your daughters' lives." Hotch says.

"Oh, my God." Mrs. Owen sobs.

"If you choose to wait, you can make a public appeal to the media." JJ says.

"Either way, we're still looking for one of your daughters." Rossi says.

"Live appeal. I don't think that's a good idea, Jack." Pat says.

"Why not?" He asks.

"Because we know they're set up to see the reaction of the parent, check for signs of guilt." Pat says.

"Is that true?" Mrs. Owen asks.

"In some cases." Hotch says.

"I'm sorry, Bruce, I can't do this. I'm... sorry." Mrs. Owen leaves.

Everybody else gathers around the desk and Penelope is still on video call. Bedelia sighs, going into the conference room, unable to watch this.

Bedelia sits at the table, looking up when everybody walks in.

"The abduction site is 9 miles north of the dump site on the edge of town." Spencer says. "Both are indicators of a comfort zone, so I'm assuming the kill site is somewhere between these 2 points."

"That's a wide area." The detective says.

"Do a grid search. Narrow it down to wooded areas, industrial sites, abandoned houses. He needed privacy and he needed a controlled environment." Hotch says.

"What's critical right now is a heavy police presence." Rossi says.

"Rossi, in the morning I want you, Reid, and Morgan to search Jack Vaughan's house. Prentiss, Davis, you two and I will go to where the girls were last seen." Hotch states.

+++

"Two girls missing, one dead, and life goes on as though nothing happened." Emily says as they walk up to the movie theater.

"Holiday weekend. What do you expect?" Hotch asks.

"A sense that something's changed." Emily says.

"Do we know what movie they saw?" Hotch asks.

"Whatever it was, they left halfway through to have a cigarette." Emily says and they spot two girls by a movie poster and smoking.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Hotch asks.

"Boys." Emily and Bedelia both answer.

"Think their parents know they smoke?" Hotch asks.

"Mine didn't. And if they saw me dressed like that -- ho ho." Emily shakes her head.

"Two teenage girls free of parents, breaking the rules, and dressed like that for a reason." Hotch says.

"Here comes the reason." Bedelia nods, watching two boys walk up to the girls.

"They obviously don't know them." Emily notes.

"But they want to." Hotch says.

"Do you think they'll go with them?" Bedelia asks.

"Since news of Katie's death? No." Hotch says. They watch the two girls leave the boys. "See?"

"So, brightly lit. No alleys. Wide-open holiday weekend." Emily says.

"Hard to abduct two girls without being seen." Hotch says.

"Unless they knew whoever took them." Emily says.

+++

They pull up outside of Jack's house, and JJ, Bruce, Mrs. Owen, and the detective get out of their car, parked at the Owens' house.

"What's going on?" JJ asks.

"I'm gonna go find out." Hotch says before making his way to Jack's house while Bedelia and Emily walk over to the others.

"What's wrong?" Mrs. Owen asks.

"It's nothing out of the ordinary, Mrs. Owen." The detective assures.

"Have they found Lindsey?" Bruce asks.

"We haven't found Lindsey, no." Emily answers.

"Now, why don't we all just go inside?" The detective suggests.

"No, I want to talk to Jack." Bruce says.

"You can as soon as they're done." JJ says.

"You're trying to keep me away from Jack. Why?" Bruce asks.

~ ~ ~

"He's under arrest?" Bruce asks, watching Derek lead Jack out.

"No, he's not under arrest." Emily argues as Bruce starts to walk across the street.

"Mr. Owen, please don't make this harder than it is." The detective says.

"You're lying to me." Bruce says. "Jack?" He calls.

"Mr. Owen, please calm down." JJ says.

"Let go me. What's going on? I want to know what he did to my Katie." Bruce says as Jack gets in the car.

"Okay, first you need to calm down--" Derek says.

"Don't tell me to calm down." Bruce says. "Why are you arresting him?"

"Sir, we're just asking him questions. That's it." Derek says.

"Jack! If you had anything to do with this, I swear, I will kill you!" Bruce shouts, Derek holding him back.

"That's enough, sir! That's enough." Derek states.

Bruce turns around and he and his wife hug.

+++

"Who do you work for?" Hotch asks.

"The McCrelan Corporation, from Boston." Jack says.

"I love how you guys sell that. By "corporation," you mean the mob, don't you?" Derek asks.

"No one's been able to get anything on them." Pat says.

"Until now." Rossi says.

"That's because they murdered anyone who was a threat to them, civilians and cops alike." Emily says.

"Is that what you did, Jack? Did you eliminate the threat?" Hotch asks. "Do those pills help the memories, or do they just hide the real Jack?"

"The only thing that keeps me alive is Lindsey." Jack says.

"What they did to Katie, do you think that was a message to you?" Hotch asks.

"If it is, it's working." Jack says.

"Do you recognize the method?" Hotch asks.

"I didn't send messages. I just went straight to the source." Jack says.

"In two weeks' time, the McCrelan brothers will face trial." Pat says.

"It looks like the McCrelans are gonna walk." Derek says.

"Where?" Bedelia turns to the detective who is on the phone. "All right. Thanks." He hangs up. "You were right. We just found something in an abandoned house."

"Lindsey?" Jack asks.

"Where, exactly?" Hotch asks.

"Here." The detective points to a part on the map. "On the outskirts of town."

"That's still in the comfort zone." Spencer states.

"What does that mean?" The detective asks.

"It means the unsubs are local. Still here." Rossi says.

"Let's go." Hotch says.

+++

"What is it to the dump site, 5 miles?" Hotch asks.

"6.2 miles south." Spencer states.

"Why?" The detective asks.

"Why didn't they dump Katie's body on the other side of town?" Derek questions.

"And risk heading out on the open road while everyone was out looking for the girls?" Emily adds.

"Something forced them to move on." Rossi says.

They walk into one of the houses and there's trash all over the place. They put gloves on and inspect everything, walking around.

Emily picks up a phone and looks at the back of it where initials are.

"Katie's cell phone." She says.

"Two different sets of footprints. So two unsubs." Derek says.

"Jack said there'd be two of them." The detective says.

"There's cigarette butts everywhere. For professionals, this is a real mess." Emily comments.

"Multiple beer and liquor bottles." Hotch says.

"This could be the belt they used to strangle Katie." Emily says.

"You'd think they'd just want to do the job and move on." Derek says.

"They're sending a message. Why obliterate the ID and hide the body?" Rossi asks.

"Why not go straight to the source?" Hotch asks.

"Garcia checked all the names against the ICE database and nothing." Derek says.

"Katie and Lindsey may have left the movie theater of their own free will, but they sure didn't count on coming here." Hotch says.

"So this has nothing to do with the mob?" The detective asks.

"Hey, guys, this blood trail goes all the way out the back here." Derek says. They go outside, following the blood trail. "Must have run out this way."

"Maybe it was Lindsey." The detective says.

"Well, whoever it was, they lost a lot of blood." Emily says.

"It's thinner the further we go." Spencer notes.

"It's an arterial bleed. It stops here." Emily says.

"Okay, spread out, search the grounds and every house." Hotch instructs.

+++

"The Ryan we're looking for probably went to high school with Lindsey and Katie a few years back, he got expelled or at least flunked out." Spencer tells Penelope.

He and Bedelia look back as the door to the conference room opens and Bruce walks out. They look in, not seeing Jack.

"Ryan Phillips. He was expelled for smoking pot years ago." Penelope informs.

Spencer and Bedelia get up and go to the doorway, only finding Jack's bottle of pills on the table.

"Oh, no." Spencer mumbles.

"Guys, what's going on?" Penelope asks.

"He's taken my car!" Pat storms in. "The bastard took my car." He grabs a walkie talkie. "This is Pat Mannan." Spencer gets on the phone. "All units. All units. I want an APB out on Jack Vaughan."

+++

"You gotta find him, and fast." Pat states.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" Spencer asks.

"Coloring in a map." Pat remarks.

"He's doing his damn job." Bedelia states.

"All the activity is focused in the southeastern district. The abduction site, the dump site, Ryan Phillips' house." Spencer says as a cop hands Pat something.

"There's gunshots coming from Jackson Street." Pat starts to leave. "Are you two coming?"

"We're doing what we need to do. You go." Bedelia tells him. Pat walks out.

~ ~ ~

Spencer calls Hotch, putting him on speaker.

"Reid, good news, please." Hotch says.

"After inputting all the sites, I've come up with a 2-dimensional probability service overlay map that indicates the offenders' operating area." Spencer says.

"Reid, where is he?" Hotch asks.

"I know it sounds crazy, but I think he's taken her to the Mayford High School." Spencer states. "Two blocks from here."

"I'll meet you guys there. And Reid... you and Davis be careful." Hotch says.

"Thanks." Spencer mumbles.

+++

Spencer and Bedelia get to the school and get out. Pat's car is there, letting them know that Jack is here.

"Okay, I think we should split up. Cover more ground." Spencer says.

"What? No. Do you not watch horror movies?" Bedelia hisses.

"This isn't a horror movie." Spencer whispers.

"You're right. It's worse. You're not leaving my sight." Bedelia states.

"Okay, okay. All right." Spencer relents.

They run along outside the school. They get to one of the doors that leads inside and go in, keeping their guns at the ready.

They hear commotion and Lindsey yelling from one of the boys' bathroom. They rush over and stand on either side of the door.

"Kill him! Kill him, daddy!" Lindsey shouts.

Spencer and Bedelia nod before she opens the door and Spencer rushes in, Bedelia following.

"Put the gun down!" Spencer orders.

"Please! Please help me!" Ryan reaches out to the two agents who keep their guns trained on Jack.

"Jack, put the gun down." Bedelia demands.

"She begged him to stop and he laughed at her! He laughed at her!" Lindsey yells.

"I didn't laugh at her. I would change it if I could." Ryan says. "But I can't. Please... just don't kill me."

"Jack... you swore to your wife you'd protect Lindsey." Spencer reminds. "Listen to her, Jack. Listen to what she wants. She's-- she's begging you to kill somebody right in front of her. What do you think your wife wanted you to protect her from?"

"Jack... your life has been, uh... it's been about violence, and if... you do this, Lindsey's will be, too. Do you want that?"

"No, you don't want that!" Ryan cries.

"When does it end, Jack?" Spencer asks.

"Put down the gun." Ryan pleads.

"Kill him." Lindsey whispers.

"When does it stop?" Spencer asks.

"Tomorrow." Jack says before shooting Ryan in the head. Both Bedelia and Spencer flinch with the gunshot, their eyes squeezing shut.

Jack takes care of Lindsey, untying her wrists, while the two agents stare at Ryan's body.

Jack and Lindsey walk out before Hotch, Rossi, and Derek walk in. Hotch walks closer to the body.

"You two okay?" Derek asks.

Bedelia hesitates before nodding, her eyes still stuck on Ryan's body.

"I-- I tried. I tried, really." Spencer says, his voice quiet. "I couldn't... what's gonna happen to Jack?"

"It depends... how important a witness he is." Rossi says.

Derek pats Bedelia's back before patting Spencer's shoulder as he walks out. Hotch and Rossi follow.

+++

They're at the bullpen and Derek and Emily have already left. Spencer is there, finishing up some case files. Bedelia finished her work a little bit ago and walks over to Spencer's desk after getting a snack from the kitchenette.

"Hey." She greets, leaning against his desk.

"Hi." He mumbles.

Bedelia holds out the small bag of Goldfish to him, but he shakes his head.

"You okay?" She asks.

"Hmm? I... yeah. Yeah, I'll be fine." Spencer mumbles, only sparing her a short glance.

"Okay." Bedelia whispers. She focuses on the Goldfish for a few moments.

"Are... are you okay?" He asks.

"Yeah. Yeah, I, uh... I guess." Bedelia nods, shrugging a little. "I'm, uh... I should get home. You staying much later?"

"Just gonna finish these up." Spencer nods to the few remaining files.

"Right. See you tomorrow." Bedelia says.

"Bye." Spencer watches her leave.
