The two girls exited school and went to the street leading to Danielle's house.
Haerin insisted on walking Danielle home, despite Danielle's initial plan to walk alone. As they walked side by side, there was a comfortable silence between them. Suddenly, Danielle started singing the tune of 'Bad' by Wave to Earth, and Haerin was captivated by her angelic voice. It felt like watching a performance in an opera theater.
Danielle abruptly stopped humming and turned to face Haerin, fixing her gaze on her. "Haerin, may I ask why you offered to walk me home? Was it out of pity or because you actually wanted to get to know me?" Danielle paused for a moment before continuing, "Actually, never mind. That was a silly question. You don't have to answer that." She smiled briefly and resumed walking.
Haerin cleared her throat before responding, "I offered to walk you home because I know it can be lonely going home by yourself. And yes, I would also like to get to know you better. After all, Minji is the only friend I've made so far." Haerin chuckled nervously.
Danielle's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Was Haerin flirting with her? She felt a strange sensation in her stomach. Danielle's mind was racing, but she tried to compose herself. Meanwhile, Haerin noticed the look on Danielle's face and was worried she had made her uncomfortable. "Uh, did I say something wrong? I hope I didn't make you feel uncomfortable," Haerin said, looking at Danielle with concern.
Haerin's concern surprised Danielle. Was Haerin really worried about her? Did she make her feel bad with her reaction to her statement? Danielle thought to herself. "No, it's okay. I was just lost in thought. You didn't make me feel uncomfortable... you make me feel safe," Danielle said, looking at Haerin with a determined look.
Haerin blushed slightly at Danielle's words. "Well, I'm glad to hear that," Haerin replied, feeling a bit more at ease. She wasn't very good at holding conversations, but luckily Danielle was.
"Anyways, can you tell me about your interests?" She smiled before adding "Well, I know you like cats and like being alone but...what else?" Danielle looked at Haerin and continued walking.
"Well...I like stargazing and walking at night, I like listening to music, and I like trying new things. Sometimes I paint or sketch when I feel like it...And I also really like frogs." Haerin smiled, she felt like she could tell Danielle everything, they just met a few hours ago but it felt like they'd known each other for ages.
"That's a lot to take in." Danielle chuckled, "But don't take that in a bad way...It's cute that you get talkative when it's something you enjoy." Danielle's face turned red, did she just call Haerin cute? All of a sudden?
"Sorry if I said a lot, I don't talk to people much, and when someone is interested in talking to me I get talkative and-" Before Haerin could finish Danielle cut her off "It's okay, Haerin you don't need to apologize, I get you." Danielle giggled "I get talkative too when I'm interested in something, I'm glad you feel okay talking to me" Danielle softly said while looking into Haerin's eyes.
Haerin felt butterflies in her stomach, no one had ever told her that, not even her parents. She knows that they just met but she liked talking to Danielle, it gave her a sense of comfort and she feels that she can open up to Danielle.
"Thank you, Danielle. How about you? What are your interests?" Haerin asked. "Well, I like taking pictures of things I find pretty. And I like spending time with my friends or family, quality time is my love language...But anyway, I also like to bake, I like listening to music too!" Danielle exclaimed, "What kind of music?" Haerin asked, the two may be opposites but maybe music was something they could bond over.
"Hmmm...If I were to pick I like R&B, pop, jazz, and love songs. I particularly like love songs that capture what someone feels when they're truly in love, you know the ones with a lot of meaning." Danielle was happy to talk about her interests. "What about you, Haerin what do you listen to?" Danielle was eager to know what the cat-eyed girl listened to.
"I like R&B and jazz too, I like calm and meaningful songs, songs that you could listen to on a rainy day at home." Haerin has a soft smile on her cheeks, "Who's your favorite artist? mine's Laufey, her songs have a lot of meaning." Danielle said calmly. "I like Lana Del Rey. Her writing style is out of this world." Haerin replied.
Danielle stopped walking and faced Haerin, "This is my house. Thanks for walking me home, and I enjoyed talking to you, Rin."
Rin? Did Danielle just give her a nickname after just a few hours together?
"Rin? That's new." Haerin chuckled "Why? Don't you like it? I can stop calling you that if-" Haerin put her finger on Danielle's soft lips, cutting her off "Like it? I love it, It's perfect" Haerin grinned. "Thank you, shouldn't you have a nickname for me too, Rin?" Danielle smiled "Hmmm what about Elle?" Haerin said while brushing a strand of Danielle's hair off her face.
Danielle felt butterflies, she'd never felt like this towards anyone, Haerin was different from the rest, and Haerin made Danielle feel warm inside.
"That's...Perfect!!!" Danielle jumped up and down in happiness. "I better go home now, it's getting late. See you tomorrow Elle." Haerin turned around trying to walk away, but Danielle grabbed her wrist, stopping her. "Before you go...Can I get your number? I want to know you more." Haerin's face formed a slight blush at the statement. "Sure..." Danielle handed her phone to Haerin and Haerin typed her number in.
"Okay, you can go now. Walk home safely, Rin." Danielle waved Haerin goodbye. Haerin turned around and waved goodbye as well.
Danielle went inside her house and was jumping in excitement, had she really just got Haerin's number? But why was she so excited about it? Her thought raced while sitting on her bed, she wanted to text Haerin goodnight.
Haerin was walking home when she heard her phone vibrate, she decided to ignore it and read it when she got home.
Haerin arrived home and checked her phone, it was a message from Danielle. Her eyes widened and her heart was racing as she read the text.
The text from Danielle read "Goodnight, Kitty. Hope you arrived home safely, see you tomorrow."
Kitty? Why would Danielle call her that? Were they already at the stage of petnames? Haerin was left to her thoughts when she finally decided to reply, she stared at the screen thinking of a reply deleting and rewriting paragraphs when she finally replied.
"Kitty? Seriously? That's a questionable name but I'll let it slide. Good night, Elle." Haerin hesitated to send the message but mustered up to courage to.
Danielle stared at the bright phone screen. Does she not like the nickname I gave her? Do I apologize? Did I make her upset? She thought, hoping that she didn't upset the cat-eyed girl.
"Sorry...I know we both said good night to eachother but I can't sleep after you said that to me, Do you not like the nicknames I gave you? Be honest with me, Rin." Danielle sent it wanting to know what Haerin really felt. She knew they just met, but she truly wanted to be close with Haerin.
Haerin was startled at the notification, They had already said goodnight to eachother, so why was Danielle texting her again?
Haerin read the message, she felt guilty about what she said. "Elle, I'm fine with the nicknames you give me. You should sleep now, There's school tomorrow." Haerin hastily replied not wanting to make the latter upset.
Danielle felt a sense of relief. "Okay. Goodnight once again, Kitty. 😸" Danielle replied, putting her phone on the dresser. She slipped into her nightgown, brushed her teeth, and went to bed.
Haerin didn't know what to reply to Danielle, so she just left her on seen. She got done brushing her teeth and putting her pajamas on. She went to bed, her heart still racing.
