DANIELA WALKED INTO TRAINING that day with trent by her side. they were currently arguing over which channel was better as a child, disney channel or nickelodeon, when something caught her eye.
"who's that?" she asked, pointing at a unfamiliar man who walked with cameras behind him and klopp directly next to him.
"that's our new transfer, gakpo," trent explained. "they'll be filming his transfer video probs."
"we've got a new transfer as well," daniela smiled, causing trent to smile back for a reason he didn't even know. "her names frida alvarez."
"oh yeah. i've heard of her, apparently she's really good," he stated. "and i've heard gakpo is good as well, he plays with virg on the national team."
"i think frida plays for spain. i'll try find her soon, heard she's here now," dani said, turning back to look at gakpo. "you gonna go say hi?"
"come with me," trent pleaded, causing her to roll her eyes as he grabbed her arm and forced her to walk with him.
klopp's smile brightened at the sight of the two; he fondly patted gakpo on his back as they stopped in front of them. "ah! my favourites! this is trent and dani, but i'm sure you already know that!"
"yeah, i do," gakpo nodded, dabbing trent up who grinned at him. "i'm cody!"
"it's so lovely to meet you," daniela greeted, pulling him in for a quick hug. "i'm daniela, but please just call me dani."
"where are you two off?" asked klopp.
"food," trent answered.
"i wanna go meet our new transfer frida," dani said, not realising that she was nudging her shoulder up against trent's until he shoved her back, gaining a laugh out of her.
"oh! they're over in the gym, we just walked past them actually," klopp explained.
"okay, thanks!" dani smiled, starting to walk away with trent hot on her tail as she turned around to look at gakpo. "see you around, cody!"
"you too, dani!"
"hurry up," trent huffed, grabbing ahold of dani's arm and dragging her away from the two as she frowned at him.
"what's up with you?" dani asked, concerned. trent didn't answer her verbally and could only shrug his shoulders. dani huffed loudly at his childish antics, wondering what had got him so worked up all of a sudden.
they walked into the gym together and were met by the sight of cameras and players surrounding a girl. daniela immediately recognised her to be frida and couldn't help but let out a laugh at curtis, harvey, and fabio's lame excuses for flirting.
"those poor souls," trent joked, gaining a laugh out of her as they walked towards the group.
"TRENTSKI!" robbo shouted, running over and jumping onto trent's back.
daniela rolled her eyes at the duo and went over to rest her arm against fabio's shoulder - standing in front of the new girl. "hey! i'm daniela, but please just call me dani."
"oh! i know who you are!" frida said, her spanish accent thick. "it's nice to meet you! you're a very good player!"
"likewise," daniela winked, hugging the girl for a moment before pulling away.
frida smiled. "question, are you dating mbappe? he was talking about you the other day!"
the room went dead silent. all conversations ended as soon as the words left frida's mouth. no one even dared to speak another word now that she had the attention of the entire room. everyone each had a face showcasing their different reactions: virgil and robbo looked as smug as ever as they cast a teasing glance towards trent. salah seemed confused; he looked towards hendo who shared the exact same expression as him. harvey and fabio held onto each other, their eyes wide as they grinned like a pair of school girls stalking their crush in the halls - they instantly snapped their heads towards trent. chloe amd alessia covered their mouths, chloe even going as far to letting out a whistle as she patted trent on his back.
"oh, er, no! i'm not," daniela awkwardly chuckled, not noticing the way trent frowned behind her.
"oh, he told me you were messaging for ages so i guess i just figured something was going on. my apologies," frida hurried out.
"you were messaging for ages?" trent asked dani, frowning lightly. daniela could hear fabio intake a huge breath from where he still stood next to her, causing her to elbow him in the ribs.
"not for ages, he just messaged me so i replied and then we started a convo. nothing too serious," she answered truthfully, shrugging.
trent was about to say something before he caught eyes with hendo from across the room, the captain giving him a stern look. trent instantly knew what this was about and cleared his throat, grinning at daniela — though the smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
"that's nice," he said.
daniela frowned at him lightly, looking at chloe for an explanation but the teen refused to even look at her. virgil instantly noticed the tension in the room and clapped his hands, smiling at frida who was too busy trying to turn curtis down lightly.
"who says we give frida a tour?!"
"oh thank god," chloe sighed in relief.

TRENT HADN'T SPOKE TO daniela properly for the rest of the week. he picked her up to go to training, made small talk in the car, dropped her off back home, and only answered her when she messaged him.
when she told rico about it, he just shook his head and called her an oblivious idiot. so now dani had the impression that trent was mad at her.
"i think kylian wants me to go meet him when he comes to the uk soon," daniela explained the next morning as rico went to sit at the kitchen island, thanking her as she handed him a plate of food.
"you gonna go?" he asked.
"probs, he seems like a good friend," she answered, missing his deadpanned aimed towards her.
"best tell trent before you do then."
"why? what does this have to do with this?"
rico sighed. "do you like him?"
"who? kylian?"
"no, trent."
"i did," daniela replied, causing him to choke on his eggs. "only for a bit, around november to december. but that was over two months ago, he's only shown interest in me as a friend so i just decided being his friend was better."
rico frowned. "that makes no sense."
"i liked him but he didn't like me," she explained. "i mean, i doubt he would when he was spotted going out of a nightclub with his ex right after the world cup."
"cleo?"
"yeah, her."
"she's a fucking psycho," he scoffed. "what? so you just wanna go after kylian now?"
"no, i'm friends with them both. i'm closer with trent, obviously, but yeah, only friends."
"you'll regret that soon," rico stated.
"why will i?" daniela questioned.
"it's obvious they both like you, talking to both of them is just gonna cause drama and tension," he shrugged his shoulders.
"trent doesn't like me. we're just friends," daniela said, flicking him on the ear as he groaned. "now hurry up and eat. i've got to get you at training in less than an hour."
but how many "just friends" was it going to be until trent and daniela realise the invisible string pulling them together can not stay invisible for any longer, and will soon appear when neither want it to?
it's a shame you have to go through a whole lot of shit to get your happy ending — sadly enough for daniela and trent, that seemed to be their fate.

just letting u know each chapter has a time skip of around one-two weeks. this is mainly cuz i set the book to start during the world cup, and it's gonna end in december 2023 (i'm hoping to end the fic at the same time, if that makes sense) so i'm trying to sync everything up to date as quick as i can whilst also writing out trent and dani's journey as in depth as i can!
e.g. in 2 chapters we could already be at the man u vs. liverpool 0-7 game, whereas in 12 chapters we could be at dominik's signing!
i'll try specify what month is it in each chapter but i'm just letting yk that's how it's gonna go, dw tho i'm not gonna rush anything 💋💋💋
