location: amara and jasmine's flat- london
as christmas came and went, amara found herself more and more excited for new year's celebrations. especially since her friends were planning to have those celebrations at a certain someone's house. and with it being new year's eve, amara found herself pacing while, somehow, simultaneously trying to find an outfit to wear. not to mention her sisters decided to stay for an extra week. so to say she was panicking was like questioning if she was black ( it's dumb is what i'm saying ).
"aaliyah i swear to god, have you've taken that cute black dress that i have?!" she shouted, her voice echoing across the walls of their apartment.
"maybe..." aaliyah softly cried as she knew amara would shout at her for it, "why you tryna look good for daveee?" aaliyah teased.
"shut up aaliyah i will actually kill you! give it back. also how do you know?"
"oh trust me we all know. except him of course."
"can i have my dress back then? also tell the twins to hurry up."
"will do and here." aaliyah chucked the dress at her, not waiting to hear the curses amara threw at her.
"do you guy think that this dress will make me look good?"
"yes mars don't worry you'll look good for your bae david." jasmine said sarcastically at her friend, dropping her smile after seeing amara's glare.
"oh please don't act like you weren't excited when you heard marcus would show up...is that my lip gloss? oh my gosh you're wearing it cause you wanna kiss marcusss!!" amara teased as she smirked at her friend's blushing face.
"you girls ready? oh my god AZIZA, ARIA IF YOU DON'T COME DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW I WILL KILL YOU!" amara screamed, subsequently terrifying her roommates.
"relax man! we're coming! you're gonna get yourself a noise complaint!" aria shouted back at her sister.
"whatever, you guys ready? like actually ready? i don't want you to go and then realising that you forgot something cause jas ain't driving you back and neither am i."
"wait, jas is driving us to dave's? never mind i might make it to dave's new year's party." aziza said, nudging her twin and aaliyah after they got seated in jasmine's car.
"if you keep disrespecting me you're not going at all. mars reign in one of your gremlins."
"GREMLINS?!!"
"you heard me az"
although, amara was interested to hear the rest of the argument, her mind was otherwise preoccupied. preoccupied by a certain dark skinned man. she couldn't help but think about him. she couldn't help but admire how handsome he was and kick herself for ever thinking otherwise. not that she get ready for other people, but ever since she developed feelings for dave, she had chosen to make herself look even better as she knew he would be there. she had decided she was going to start making her moves.
amara had often been a rather subdued person when it came to boys; they were well outside of her comfort zone. this was due to her extremely low self esteem due to years of being the least attractive friend of her friend group in her teen years. this wasn't to say she wasn't attractive, but compared to her friends she found herself to be less than. so deciding that she was going to start connecting more with dave and even flirting with him was out of character for her. but it was a decision she needed to make as she wanted to have no regrets.
so as she stared out into the distance, with her friends and siblings arguing around her, she just thought of every possible conversation she could have with him. she thought about how she would speak to him properly because ever since he went over to her house they haven't met in person. so to sum up, amara was really nervous.

location: dave's house, london
"do you know where dave is? i want to speak to him." amara said as she entered, asking a mutual friend as she passed them.
"ooooohhh" her sisters and roommates teased while smirking. they kept making kissy faces and ignoring amara's piercing glares.
"i just need to talk to him and say hi to him. i can't come to his house and not say hi. it would be wrong." amara stated though it was hard to believe she believed herself.
"yeah sure, that's the only reason why you want to know where he is." jasmine joked teasingly, but her smirk dropped when she made eye contact with marcus, "listen i know we're supposed to-"
"go to him babes. i'll be fine." amara whispered to her friend, squeezing her hand.
"you're actually the best. and also don't think i didn't notice you hyping yourself in the mirror, i know you're gonna tell him how you feel. trust me he'll say the same. the way he looks at you tells me enough."
" thank you jas. i'll tell you how it goes with me and you tell me how it's going with you?"
"sure, i'll see you later."
as amara waded her way through the clusters and groups of people all around david's house, she finally caught sight of him and made a beeline towards him. she could see he was preoccupied, already talking to someone else, so she mentally prepared herself for having to speak to him in person; and if the time was right confess her feelings ( provided she have a few drinks in her system of course ).
when she finally saw the green light to talk to him, she made her way to him and noticed...
"ruby? what the fuck are you doing here?!" amara slightly yelled, causing the brunette in front of her to jump and raise her eyebrows.
"amara hey listen we need to-" ruby attempted at keeping the peace although it was all in vain.
"we don't need to do shit."
"wait you guys know each other?
"yeah we know each other. how do you two know each other?"
"i asked you first."
"so what? i asked you second."
"ok you know what yeah? i don't know what your problem is-"
"MY PROBLEM?! i'll tell you what my problem is."
"we met around a week ago-"
'a week ago... omg thats when he was being flirty to me. well i think he was being flirty,' amara thought ( dw girl he was being flirty hes just being silly ) , "did i ask you? didnt think so."
"why are you being so rude? you're not usually like this." dave inquired, wondering why his new friend was being so uncharacteristically rude to someone that wasn't him.
"i don't know she maybe drank too much. anyways as i was saying, we met a week ago and i was serving him at the restuarant i work at. obviously he was really cute and we were flirting the whole time so i slipped him my number. he decided to call me over tonight as his date."
"oh ok. cool, cool cool cool. wait did you say the reason im acting this way is because i drank too much?! no its because you were one of my closest friends and you slept with my ex. and then when i confronted you about it you said that you were the better girl. guess you were wrong cause i don't see james around here."
"no me and james split up a while back. i just felt really bad about what i did that i couldn't be with him anymore-"
"so he cheated on you. got it."
"no- i mean yes- i mean you're not wrong but really, i've changed and i'm really sorry mars-" ruby pleaded as she gave puppy dog eyes to the singer in front of her.
"you don't get to call me mars. you lost that right when you sat on my ex's dick."
"AMI?! what the hell. she said she's sorry and that she's changed. why can't you take that for what it is."
"because she's fake and a liar, and you deserve bett- she's just not a good person and you wouldn't get it because we weren't friends then. but trust me she does this all the time. she messes up and apologises, says she's changed and it won't happen again, and then it does."
"ami, i get that you're hurt but she actually seems like she's changed. can't you just trust that?"
"no. i can't . it was only 9 months ago, i refuse to believe she's changed that quickly."
"fine then. i guess i'll see you around then amara." dave mumbled, hurt by her decision and so choosing not to use the nickname he chose out for her.
"alright then david. happy new year's." amara barely whispered melancholily, wishing that this was a dream she could wake up from; her crush and her ex best friend were seeing each other. how amazing ( ! ).
instead of wallowing in her feelings and resenting ruby anymore than she did, she decided to just find any of her friends as she really needed someone, especially someone who was close with her when ruby betrayed her. when it happened, she was utterly devastated and heartbroken thta the both of them could be so cruel and heartless. so seeing her in david's arm and knowing that they were seeing each other completely crushed her. she just felt as if she was always second fiddle to ruby and couldn't stand it anymore. well i say that, but she did rant to oakley, fatima and ria.
" i can't believe she was acting like nothing happened until you brought it up." ria gasped as she leaned onto her boyfriend, as she was evidently drunk.
" i can't believe he said that to you. oooh hes lucky i live in manchester otherwise hed be coming home to me in his house." fatima whispered menacingly.
"very frightening image tima thank you very much. actually i may as well get wasted. my whole plan was to drink a bit tell him how i feel and then kiss at midnight but since he wants tp be all up on that psychopathic bitch i may as well get plastered."
"yeah get your mind off it. i'll drive you home." oakley murmured to her while rubbing ria's cold arms.
"actually even better, get tipsy, find a guy, flirt, maybe kiss and post a bunch of pics of your hot self and you'll be over that prick in seconds." ria suggested, her words slurring and joining together,.
"yeah youre right. oh hes cute. i can talk to him."
"i dont know mars, maybe just forget about the guy part. you need to fully heal and not just use a guy because you got rejected." fatima whispered, scared that if she were to say it out loud ria would start a drunken fight. noting amara's nodding, she got ready to hear more of amara's rant.
" i just don't get it. is she prettier than me? or like more interesting than me? why is it, since highschool, every guy i've ever dated or liked would like or even date ruby as soon as they meet her?"
"it's not you mars. they're just shit guys and she's a shit friend. they know that if they were to try it on her, she wouldn't turn them down because she's such a shit friend." fatima comforted as amara drank some more.
"ok then what does he see in her? i just- i've just realised that i really liked him. but you know what i'm not going to let him ruin my new year's. lets take some photos. but after the new year starts."
and as the clock struck 12, declaring the start of the new year, amara watched as dave kissed ruby finally making his move on her.
