location: amara and jasmine's flat- london
amara had no clue why dave had all of a sudden been rude to her after what she thought to be a rather calm interaction between the two. she was confused as to why he suddenly had switched up and acted like he wasn't joking and laughing with her merely 2 days previously. and although she wishes to not dwell on it, her compulsive overthinking and pathological people pleasing tendencies wouldn't let it, and so it ate away at her.
amara found that even her cat ( noona ) was of now comfort to her ( that's how you know it's serious ), and she was just left to be perplexed and bemused to dave's incredibly fleeting feelings.
( also it feels important to note she's on her period so she's even more emotional and she was expecting her sisters over by the end of the week ).
the only thing that amara could think of which would distract her from her feelings, was talking about someone else's and so poor jasmine was to be hounded by amara for some sort of distraction.
"hey aaliyah, is jas in her room."
( don't remember if i mentioned this but aaliyah - jasmine's sister lives with them ).
"yeah i wouldn't go in there though. she's obviously not taking her and marcus' breakup well, never mind when she argued with mum and dad," aaliyah started, sympathy written all over her face, "mars it's so bad she's listening to adele AND bruno mars AND lana del ray."
"damnnnn! well maybe i can cheer her up. she needs it and plus it'll be good for all of us."
" i really don't think you should though."
"why not?"
"well," aaliyah sighed, "it's obvious you're only doing this because you're still upset about james cheating on you and plus the anniversary is coming up...maybe it's feeling too much and you want to just distract yourself. but it won't work because you'll stress yourself out and just end up hurting yourself. and also jas's feelings won't distract you from your own"
"liyah i appreciate you looking after me but this has nothing to do with...it has nothing to do with that. jas needs someone and i'll be that someone."

she wasn't. amara's emotions were all over the place due to multiple reasons: dave's continuous wishy washy behaviour, the fact that she hadn't taken her anxiety meds, she was still reeling from the insecurities her ex and her ex-friend had caused her to have; most importantly the anniversary of the death her old friend dia was coming up.
when amara was about 13/14 she was rather close to a girl called dia who happened to go to her school. in fact, her parents often treated dia as their own and vice versa. until she had some rather distressing news that her friend had passed in a car crash aged only 14. obviously this had caused immense distress to a 14 year old girl and caused her mental health to completely deteriorate ( it didn't help that her friends in high school were incredibly flaky ).
therefore every year around the last few days of december, amara finds herself in a rather depressing mood. this is what caused her to want to distract herself from her emotions, but as she made it towards jasmine's room she realised what aaliyah had been trying to tell her: there was no point distracting herself through helping jasmine as the two of them just had to feel what they were feeling. and so she did until...

oddly enough this encounter with david happened to sedate amara's racing thoughts and cause her to feel slightly better, given the circumstances. usually talking with him had the opposite reaction, but ever since the night at the bar, whenever david is mentioned or even on the pod chance she thinks about him, the feelings of rage that once controlled her upon thinking about her were replaced with feelings of slight apprehension and awkwardness.
amara now found herself thinking more of him and admiring his features, but only slightly. not enough for her to have feelings for him, but enough to raise eyebrows. enough for her title of enemy that she bestowed upon him, to be invalid. enough for amara to question whether she found david attractive.
but she didn't....right?

hey y'all sorry for not being as active but i'm trying
also sixth form really isn't for the weak ( i am the weak ) and the headteacher has me 🤏🏽 close to yanking my braids out with her ridiculous sixth form dress code.
also guys i'm decided, i do like him. he's so sweet and funny i can't help it but he's like that with everyone. also he says the dumbest stuff sometimes ( am i attracted to dumb guys? ). also he takes epq like what a weirdo.
but back with the book. dw guys this isn't gonna be a really slow burn or like they like each other by chapter 10, i'm gonna work my way through it and yes amara does fall first but dave definitely falls harder ( which means jealous angst!!! ). i also wanted amara to have her own things apart from just be dave's love interest with her anxiety and her grief.
on thing about dave and amara though is that they'll turn anything into an argument ( yes they will be this feisty in a relationship ). but that doesn't mean they don't deal with their own shit first.
