WHY?
Val has been asking herself this question over and over again as she took a few weeks to herself. It was immature of her to not hear his side of the story first but it all looked too real. Her mind was made up that he was like every other guy and she didn't want to waste anymore of her energy, time, or money on him.
The last few weeks have been spent around her friends and family. They weren't too happy to hear the bad news about Oakley and they despised him for it. Except her little siblings who were too little to know any better.
It was what she needed. When she heard that that girl posted a picture of Oakley, Val wasn't really bothered. I mean fans do that all the time but when Madeline started to post more and more she realized that the girl had something with Oakley.
She didn't even know about the texts until her fans started sending her links to the shade room page. To see the man she thought she knew, the man she thought that loved her and wanted to build a life with her, talking to another girl Val immediately blocked him.
It was her way of trying to stay unbothered. Val told herself that she didn't care about him that much anyway and that she doesn't need him to live. But she was wrong.
Crying her eyes out at night and playing the put together girl during the day was her routine for the next weeks. At night was when she wrote her new songs and she meant every fucking word.
Everybody has been telling her that she should hate him for what he did. That he doesn't deserve her and isn't what she needs. They're all wrong because Val has done nothing but cry for him and miss him.
Madeline wasn't even on her mind, she'd let God handle her.
Confrontation was something she struggled with. Most of the time it ended up with the other person leaving her because they couldn't take her shit any longer.
Val anxiously bit her glossed covered lip as she unlocked and entered her and Oakleys apartment. It looked different from the last time she left it. Clothes staggered across the floor along with the shattered lamp that used to light up their living room.
She unclipped the leash from Crush's collar so he could roam around as she settled back in. By the way he rapidly wagged his tail as he sniffed the carpet, she then realized that he had missed his home too.
Letting Crush do what he wants, Val made her way to the bedroom with her suitcase rolling behind her. Hands slightly sweating, the house feeling like an empty shell compared to how it felt like her home weeks ago.
The sight of her and Oakleys bed made her heart pound. So many good memories in this home and she was ready to throw it all away in a blink of an eye.
Deciding that sulking wasn't going to solve anything she decided to tidy up the place. After throwing her clothes in the washer Val started with the weeks worth of dirty dishes that overflowed the sink.
About 5 minutes later she heard the door unlock making her freeze. Some party of her was scared to see Oakley because she knew that this conversation could either make or break their relationship. Another part of her was happy see that he was okay and safe.
Oakley held the straps of his backpack as he entered their home. His cheeks slightly red of embarrassment of leaving the place in such a mess. However the sight of Val caused a wave of relief to come over him.
Their meeting was a little awkward and filled with silence. Both not knowing what to say. But their their eye contact said a different thing.
Val gave him one last look before turning around to finish the dishes. Leaving Oakley with the view of her back.
He sighed dropping his backpack onto one of the barstool chairs and sat in the other. "Nice album."
To her it sounded like he was mocking her but he meant it genuinely. He couldn't have been more proud of her even if some of the songs were about him. Her songs were on repeat his whole way here.
"Where'd you stay?" He questioned her after she ignored his compliment. Not blaming her for feeling this way, she has a right to.
Val's grip on the sponge subconsciously got tighter as she scrubbed the dirty plate. "My parents. My dad is still hurt so I wanted to stay with him and..."
She trailed off because the reason why she stayed over there was quite clear. It kind of scared her how quiet it was between them. They've had disagreements in the past but none like this. She knew that if he really did cheat then the right thing to do would be to leave him. But some part of her would still want to stay with him, even if he did do her wrong.
Oakley nodded his head understandably. The last few weeks have been hell for him. He may look okay on the outside but inside is where it hurt the most. Never in his life would he believe that he would experience this type of heart ache.
"Whose Madeline?" Val asked. Seeing that neither of them knew where to start. Both had a lot to say but didn't know how.
A sense of hatred bubbled inside at the sound of the name. "She's literally nothing. Before I got with you, we had this sneaky link ting going on. No feelings attached, at least from my side."
"The texts didn't seem like nothing. Or those pictures." The images of Madeline and Oakley slightly broke her heart. She always thought that Oakley only looked at her that way.
"She edited that shit. Don't trust anything that comes from her."
Drying her hands, Val turns to face him. Her back leaning against the sink. "And why should I trust you?"
"Cause I'm your boyfriend. How are you going to believe some random girl over me?" He tried not to yell but this whole thing could have been avoided if Val just listened to him in the first place.
"She has proof!" Val exasperatedly held her hands out.
"It's not even real!" He defended.
"Okay, so you didn't meet up with her while we were talking?"
There was slight pause.
"Right." Val nodded her head slamming the towel on the counter before angrily heading to the hall closet. Grabbing the broom and dustpan to clean up the mess he made.
Oakley rubbed his hands over his face. "I did meet up with her but it wasn't to hook up. I'm not like that."
"Yes you are. Everybody warned me about you."
Tears gathered in her eyes as she swept up the glass from their hardwood floor. Irritated at herself for not learning from her mistakes with DDG and all her other exes. She never learns.
Oakley scoffed. "You're really gonna say that to me? Are you mad? After the way I've treated you. Catering to you, putting you first, spending money on you."
"Spending money on me doesn't mean you love me."
She knew that he was going to throw that back in her face the first chance he got. With his last relationship going the way it did, it's an understandable statement.
"Don't ever say that I don't love you!" He gave her a glare for even letting that thought cross her mind.
"Then why didn't you tell me that you met up with her?"
"Cause I was done with her. She's in the past and I wanted to be with you. I met up with her to end it with her. The reason I texted her after was because she didn't stop trying to reach me. She even threatened you. She's fucking crazy and I wanted to make sure that you were safe from her."
Val kept quiet as he explained feeling a little guilty for ghosting him for weeks. Avoiding his gaze as she dumped the pieces of glass into the trash can.
He grabbed her hands after they were free from holding things. Pulling her to stand in between his legs. "I would never, ever, do anything to hurt you. You hear me?"
He tried to catch her eyes but she still looked down. Front pieces of her hair were being used to hide from him. Tilting her head up with both of his hands on each side and then moving her hair from her face to see that she had been crying. "Please just trust me. I love you more than anything or anyone in this world."
"Don't leave me." He begged wiping her tears away. His head coming to rest on hers.
After a moment no response he was ready to let her go but the familiar feeling of her hands rubbing his neck made him sigh in relief.
She gave him a few long kisses before pulling away. A shy smile on her face. "I believe you. I'm sorry for every time I didn't. And I'm sorry for-"
He cut her off by smashing his lips into hers. Val's body melting into his. She missed him and loved him so much.
When his kisses started to move to the corner of her mouth and down to her neck she giggled. "Mm, I missed you too."
After leaving a few marks on her neck he brought his head back to kiss her lips and finally kiss her forehead. "You're such a sweetheart."
He embraced her into a much needed hug. Hands passionately roaming down her body to express how much he missed her. "Let me make it up to you."
"How?" She whispered into his ear leaving kiss after.
He started to subtlety walk them to the bedroom. A smile coming on to his face she giggled. "You know how."

• halfway through writing this I was like "damn Val kind of overreacted" but it's probably different and more difficult for a famous couple to deal with their issues than it is for people who don't have deal with the cameras, media, and all that stuff.
