"alright mr. miller, your labs came back"
"y/n we need you in here" weaver shouted
"i apologize, i'll be right back"
i headed to the trauma room, putting my gloves on.
"anna, can you finish the ab?"
she froze
"i can't, i'm sorry"
"i can take over"
i at the patient, a half finished abortion. i finished putting my gloves on and completed it.
it was later, i discharged all my patients from the morning. including mr. miller who was a hypochondriac.
i was in the exam room, old lady with end stage colon cancer.
the daughter was distraught
"does your mother have something called a dnr?"
she nodded, handing me the paper
"please save her dr" she cried
"ma'am"
"unfortunately i can't do that"
"please"
"that would be against your mothers wishes"
"she has very advanced lung cancer, she wants to go"
the monitor went off. it was now only a matter of minutes.
"please!"
"it's best to take in her last moments"
"oh my god"
"time of death, 14:52"
"i'm sorry mrs. chambers"
i sat at the admit desk, filling in charts.
"marks not here today, huh?"
"it's his day off" doug replied
"can you sign this?" malik handed me a chart
i nodded, signing it.
"you know, some days i really regret going into emergency medicine" doug sighed
"tell me about it"
"pregnant teenager on a vent, the father of the teen won't let the boyfriend be a part of the baby's life"
"that kid is more responsible than half the people i see twice his age come in here"
"tough case" i sighed
"no matter how many deaths i see, it never gets easier to tell family" i added
"seeing their reactions you know"
"you win some you lose some i guess" doug laughed, walking off

"malik?" i raised an eyebrow
"there's a rumour going around the hospital about you"
"what is it?"
"carol isn't really around today"
"okay?"
"well people are saying that it's because of you"
"like you got in a fight or something"
"the hospital thinks you hate her"
"you know that's not true" i laughed
"you didn't hear it from me"
he stuck his hands up, walking away.
i shook my head.
all that was nonsense.
